Stormy Night in a Historical Park!

Arrived here just before a big thunderstorm rolled in.

But it was super cool to watch as the lights of Houston illuminated the sky across the bay.

Can camp for up to 3 nights maximum with $10 permit from the courthouse down the street.

No utilities, but large open camping area near fishing…

We park, lots of people here to work

Nice level concrete pads. Very tightly packed together. Had a pool and clubhouse. Very nice clean bath/shower rooms and laundry facilities. Only real problem was the people park on the main thruway making getting in and out with the trailer difficult. We had to wake a guy up to move his truck to…

Nice park close to Houston

I like state parks and this is a good example why. The sites are well spaced, well maintained and relatively inexpensive. About $20. You can reserve online and the web site has photos of the site so you know it works for you.

Site have electric and water and the dump station is at the entrance of…

Winter Camping at Cagle is Peaceful and Beautiful

Just finished another camping trip to Cagle Recreation Area in the Sam Houston National forest.  It was pretty chilly in the beginning of March, but we camped during the week when all the weekenders had left, and there were only a handful of campers there.  So peaceful and serene.  Lots of clearly…

Sam Houston National Forest

Older campground, but well maintained with larger sites providing privacy. Also, wouldn’t expect full hookups in a National Forest campground, so that was a plus. Verizon signal was virtually non-existent, but nice to be off grid for a couple days.

Great 5 days here

This was in my top 5 KOA’s to stay at. We stayed 5 days. Close to amazing Lake Conroe. We had a blast here. Fishing in the pond for some small mouth. Each and every staff member was friendly and courteous. The spots are spread out with tons of room. We will be back here definitely!!!

Very quiet here in the Sam Houston National Forest!

28 campsites! Not too close together either! They fixed the water spigots throughout the camp just recently. Bathrooms get cleaned daily, super clean during the week, but gets crowded on weekends. So bathrooms get kinda overused. The showers are hot! Many places have luke warm, but they turn up the…

Peaceful, Private Campsites

We enjoyed camping at Double Lake.  The campsites are huge and well kept.  I believe all have full hookups.  We had a lakefront site which had a private little path to the lake.  The shore was good for fishing.  There is a trail which goes around the whole lake, and it was such a nice hike we did…

Busy Campground

We camped here for a long weekend getaway, and wanted to see what a Thousand Trails campground was like.  The campground is huge, and you cannot reserve a specific site.  You drive around and pick a site, then call and let them know which one you're in.  This is fine, but we were looking for a…

Beautiful Lake and Great Campsites

Cagle Recreation Area is one of my favorite places to camp.  It's just an hour north of Houston and in a beautiful, peaceful wooded setting.  Although you're not far from the city, you feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere.  The campsites are mostly level, well kept, and there's ample…

They are thieves!!

We had to cancel due to weather conditions. We have a 72 hour notice and they charged us for the entire reservation. Their answer is that they never give refunds under any circumstances. Beware, it doesn't say that on their website and they don't tell you when you call to reserve either. He said…

Alligators!

We loved this place! Our campsite was on Burr Oak loop. Very spacious. Quite a walk to the bathroom though. Very clean bathrooms.

The trails are awesome! So glad we had our bikes, it allowed us to cover a lot of ground. We did see over 10 alligators. Some on the side of the trail, some in…
