    Galveston Island KOA Holiday

    Fun Place to stay

I recently stayed at the Galveston Island KOA during a much-anticipated getaway, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience overall! Nestled just a short distance from the beach and local attractions, this KOA is the perfect base for exploring all that Galveston has to offer. Its a bit away from town, but that adds to the tranquilness of the park.  Accommodation: The RV sites were well-maintained and spacious, with clean concrete pads that provided easy access for our motorhome. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of privacy between sites and the beautiful greenery surrounding the campground, as we had a corner site with dog pen. Some spots, like ours, even offered nice trees for shade and added charm. The amenities included water, electricity, and sewer connections, all functioning properly during our stay. Facilities: The campground featured clean restrooms and showers that were well-kept, which is always a plus for RV travelers. The camp store was stocked with essentials.  The KOA’s location is exceptional. It’s just a few miles from the heart of Galveston, making it easy to access the beach, restaurants, and attractions like the historic Pleasure Pier and the Strand. We especially loved how close it was to the beach—it was a quick drive(or a nice bike ride) to the sandy shores, where we spent hours soaking up the sun. Activities and Atmosphere: The staff were friendly and eager to help with information about local activities and attractions. The KOA offered recreational options like a swimming pool. The campground maintained a family-friendly atmosphere that made it easy to unwind and enjoy nature. Tips for Future Guests: If you plan to visit during peak season, make reservations in advance to secure a good spot, as this campground can get busy. Especially if you want a cabin. Don’t miss the chance to explore the beach during sunset—it was truly a breathtaking experience!

Final Thoughts: Our experience at the Galveston Island KOA was memorable and enjoyable. It was the first time out in our new motorhome.  The combination of respectful staff, clean facilities, and a prime location made it a fantastic home base for our beach adventures. I’d highly recommend this KOA to anyone looking to explore Galveston while enjoying the comforts of camping. We left with wonderful memories and hope to return soon!

    San Jacinto Riverfront RV Resort

Lovely spot just far enough off the Interstate for peace and quiet for the night!

It was a quick overnight visit, so the flat concrete pad with a tree and grass made for a nice reprieve from the Interstate travel! On the river with cure cottages available for rent as well. Dominoes delivery right to the gate!

What campers like

Quiet locations despite urban proximity: Many campers appreciate the secluded feeling at Eagles Point RV and Camping even though it's near the city. One reviewer observed, "It is pretty close to town but once you get here you'll be blown away by how it feels like it's super far from anything else."

Clean facilities: Bathroom and shower quality is frequently mentioned in positive reviews. At Lakeview RV Resort, a visitor noted, "Bathrooms were open. They were large and clean. A shuttle ran between the park and MD Anderson which made it very convenient for us."

Winter camping comfort: The mild winter climate makes the region attractive for off-season camping. A visitor to Eagles Point shared, "The bathroom was really clean and warm which was a super plus being that it was as cold as 33 degrees outside when we stayed."

What you should know

Traffic considerations: The Houston metro area experiences heavy traffic, particularly during rush hours. A camper at Eric & Jay's RV Resort advised, "If you don't have an EZ Pass or RV Toll Pass, you'll want one if you must drive during rush hour. The traffic is THICK and there were accidents almost every day."

Medical facility proximity: Several campgrounds cater specifically to those needing medical treatment in Houston. One reviewer at Houston Med Center KOA Holiday stated, "We plan to stay here during my visits to MD Anderson for cancer treatment."

Security features: Most campgrounds in the area have gated access for safety. A camper at Lakeview RV Resort commented, "Once your inside the gates, the park was clean and staff was friendly. I had no problems at the park."

Tight spaces: Many RV parks in the area have limited space between sites. One reviewer at Eric & Jay's noted, "Our back-in spot was also very narrow with hardly any room to walk between the picnic bench and trailer once we were pulled-in."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access year-round: Cedar Cove and several other campgrounds maintain heated pools that families can enjoy even outside summer months. A visitor simply noted the "Wonderful view of bay, friendliest people!"

Adult vs. family areas: Some campgrounds separate adult and family zones. At USA RV Resorts Marina Bay, a camper observed, "Campground is divided into 3 sections divided by a fence. Adult only section."

Playground access: Look for campgrounds that connect to city parks for additional play areas. At Houston Med Center KOA, one visitor highlighted access to "wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf."

Entertainment options: The Kemah Boardwalk provides family activities within driving distance of several campgrounds. A camper at USA RV Resorts Marina Bay mentioned, "Kemah boardwalk is a short drive down the street. Location is best part of here."

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Be prepared with leveling blocks at some parks despite concrete pads. A reviewer at Eric & Jay's RV Resort shared, "This is a brand new park, yet some of the concrete slabs are unlevel. Perhaps the most unlevel that we've experienced in our travels."

Internet connectivity varies: Campgrounds have different approaches to WiFi. At Eric & Jay's, a camper explained their unique system: "They have a 'no wifi' slogan, and the campground wifi is rendered obsolete within the confines of your designated space, instead favoring a hard-wired ethernet connection to your router."

Navigating tight entrances: Several of the best places to camp near Deer Park, Texas have challenging entrances. A USA RV Resorts Marina Bay camper warned, "Getting there the first time is a tad shaky. As you pull in, natural inclination is to go to the right ... which is wrong. You have to go left to be able to hit the sites correctly."
