Best Campgrounds near Bellaire, TX

Camping options around Bellaire, Texas primarily consist of RV resorts and developed campgrounds within the greater Houston metropolitan area. The Houston Med Center KOA Holiday and Lakeview RV Resort provide convenient urban camping experiences with full hookups and amenities. For those seeking more natural surroundings, Brazos Bend State Park Campground, located about 45 minutes southwest of Bellaire, offers tent camping, RV sites, cabins, and screened shelters amid wildlife-rich landscapes known for alligator viewing opportunities. Most facilities within 30 minutes of Bellaire cater predominantly to RV travelers with concrete pads, electricity, and water hookups.

Reservations are essential for most campgrounds in the region, particularly during cooler months from October through April when temperatures are more moderate. Summer camping presents significant challenges with intense heat, humidity, and mosquitoes. As one camper noted about Stephen F. Austin State Park, "Going to this camp in the middle of August is not recommended because, wow Texas heat." Many RV resorts offer swimming pools and air-conditioned facilities to combat the heat. Security is a consideration at urban campgrounds, with many featuring gated access. Highway 6 RV Resort exemplifies this with "a locked gate at the entrance where residents have a code to open the gate or a remote gate opener."

Wildlife viewing opportunities vary significantly between urban and state park campgrounds. Brazos Bend State Park receives consistent praise for its natural attractions, with one visitor reporting, "We saw around 15 alligators while hiking, and these are animals in the wild in their habitat." The park also features a nature center, hiking trails, and fishing opportunities. Urban RV parks typically offer amenities focused on comfort rather than nature experiences, including pools, recreation rooms, and exercise facilities. Campers frequently mention the convenience of these locations for accessing medical facilities, shopping, and Houston attractions. Most RV resorts maintain year-round operations, while optimal camping seasons at state parks are late fall through early spring when temperatures are more comfortable and insect activity is reduced.

    Jamaica Beach RV Resort

    Nice resort campground

We enjoy the lazy river, putt, putt, and kayaking on the bay. It is an easy walk to the beach. Galveston State Park is on the other side of to make a beach if you want to stay on the water. However, we really enjoy the resort setting and the people that camp here as well as the people who run the camp ground.

    Houston West RV Park

    Very convenient

This park is only about a block off of Route 10 near Houston. Great place to stay if you are just passing through. The pool and hot tub are nice, and the lake is pretty. They've got a pretty severe red ant infestation everywhere, so you can't spend too long standing outside on the gravel or the grass.

Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground

A small park that offers a charming and relaxing nature experience.

This park may be on the smaller side, but it’s full of charm!🌿 The trails are peaceful and great for spotting wildlife, while the shady trees make it perfect for hammocks or picnics. The campsites feel cozy yet spacious, and sprunki, clean, well-kept facilities make the whole experience even more enjoyable. A hidden gem worth visiting!✨
