      Lewisville Lake, Texas

      Overview

Westlake features four group shelters on Lewisville Lake, where visitors can spend a day picnicking or boating on the almost 30,000-acre reservoir, just outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

The lake rests above an archeological site where prehistoric remains have been found. It is believed these early humans inhabited the area as far back as 12,000 B.C., making this one of the oldest human-inhabited sites in the Southwest United States and Mexico.

      Natural Features:

The day-use area sits on the western banks of Lewisville Lake. The lake stems from the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in northern Texas and generally has low visibility, but plenty of surface acres for boating and fishing.

      Recreation:

The lake hosts a number of fishing tournaments each year, drawing anglers from all over to try for trophy-sized bass.

Warm water temperatures offer ideal conditions for water sports including boating and jet skiing.

      Facilities:

Each of the open-sided pavilions come with a large grill and water, and are all within walking distance to a restroom.

Blackjack Oak is lakeside with large shade trees. This pavilion seats 50-75 people and has electric hookups.

Bur Oak seats 100-150 people and has its own parking lot.

Cottonwood is close to the shoreline, has electric hookups and seats 100-150 people.

Green Ash sits in a large, open field and offers electric hookups. It seats 75-100 people.

      Nearby Attractions:

Horseback riding and golfing can be found nearby. The active city of Dallas is about 40 minutes away.

Located south of Cottonwood Lake along FS Road 900, TADRA Point Trailhead is at the confluence of the five loops that comprise the 75-mile LBJ Multi-Use Trail System. The trailhead was constructed through the volunteer efforts of local equestrian groups and is used throughout the year as headquarters for various non-commercial group events, including equestrian endurance rides.

Pretty run down and amenities not accurate:

THERE ARE NO SHOWERS OR FLUSH TOILETS INCLUDED IN THIS STAY ACCORDING TO CITY WORKERS…when we arrived I went into the building to check out showers and a lady asked me what I was doing then informed the showers are for paid pool goers and there are vault toilets by the rv dump site, but they were locked. The sites are all covered in hitchhiker burrs, our dog found them all haha. The sites have water hookups but they’re in-ground and several are washed out so almost impossible to hook to without getting mud in your hose.

        East Fork Park Campground

        Functional with good views

Pros: Great views of the water and wildflowers in the meadows. Reasonable price. Everything works and the shaded picnic tables are a plus. 5G plus signal on ATT for anything you might need online. Downsides: It looks like there could be a lot of water pooled on and behind our site with a heavy rain. The pad has definitely broken up over time and isn't level. The fire pit is also sitting at an angle. We noticed two groups of campers with 4-6 extra cars having gatherings last night, so that might have been distracting if we were right next to them.

        Weatherford-Fort Worth West KOA

        Needs some work

Generally I’ll stay at a KOA for a night when traveling through. They are like McDonald’s, nothing special but you know what to expect. This one was below par even for a KOA. We arrived just at 5:00 pm but the office was already closed. Didn’t see any staff before we left in the morning. Out checking information was available on the bulletin board. A sign said there were no more available sites, but there were clearly over 40 empty spaces. Many of the sites need new picnic tables, and the trees are full of dead branches. However the grass was mowed. Sites are very close together. Closer than most. There is a grassy dog park. There is also the a playground- a swing set! Also a pool which appears functional. Bathroom and showers were adequate. !

There is an RV repair facility next door.

        Dodge City RV Park

        Good spot for camping

Been there last year during out trip to Texas( mainly hiking in Britton park and a few other local trail spots and camped at Dodge City RV park)

Pros: good clean spots for camping, everything you might need is pretty close
Didn't try RV spots, but those looked really nice too.

        Cons: Didn't find any.

If you gonna be visiting TX during June-July for trailing and camping - my advice is: make sure to get a pair of comfy shoes(my go-to are Brooks men's running shoes like those https://rununited.com/mens-footwear/) - trails are pretty rough and it's extremely hot and humid near bodies of water... Gotta dry your shoes every few hours

Skyview Ranch RV Park & Driving Range

        Overall really good

Visited Skyview in September 2023 - overall it's a solid RV park with some really nice views. We've only stayed for 2 days, but it's been really good and we've had great time.

It's located pretty close to DFW so everything you would need is close-by(we've visited Big Bend one our first day and Gritr's gun range( https://range.gritrsports.com/ ) on second since we wanted to check out the city itself.

Cedar Ridge Mobile Home & RV Park

Solid option if you're near Dallas

Stayed there during our trip to Texas, after visiting Big Bend. Overall, pretty good spot for RVing.

Couldn't find any photos, probably is on the camera I've left at my folks house during the trip.

Pros: easy to find, quick booking, good view.

        Cons: can't remember any.

Also a semi-pro is that it's located pretty close to a bunch of outdoor sports stores( https://gritroutdoors.com/ is the one we've visited most I think) so if you forgot something on your trip - it's pretty easy to pick up.

Pretty sunset right on the water

We got a primitive campsite right on the water and we’re able to fish a little bit once we arrived. We got there after 5 but there is a kiosk where you can check in and grab a map to find your site easily. The park is pretty big and there was a nice fire pit and picnic table we could use. It was still really hot during the time of year we went, but other than that it was nice.

        Nice State Park

Nice state Park. We stayed here 3 nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although the park has been around awhile it is maintained well. Our site had plenty of room to the next site, had a covered picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hanger. Water pressure was 50 psi, sewer hookup was close, but electrical box was in the front and most modern RV's electrical connection in the back (30 foot cable just reached). The park is close (2.5 miles) to Cedar Hill where you can find shopping, dining, fuel, etc. Would stay here again.
