Custer Crazy Horse Campground

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Custer Crazy Horse Campground and visiting the Cabin 13 Coffee Shop, and I must say, both experiences were exceptional. The Custer Crazy Horse Campground is a gem for anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty of South Dakota. The campground is well-maintained, with clean facilities and spacious sites that cater to both RVs and tents. The serene environment and stunning views of the Black Hills made for a relaxing and memorable stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and papa's games accommodating, ensuring that all our needs were met. The location is perfect for exploring the nearby attractions, including the Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park.

Excellent Spot, Friendly Staff

Excellent camping location just 5 minutes down the road from Custer. Some sites are right next to the highway but most are back in the woods where it is well shaded and quiet. Very helpful staff who escort you to your camp site and help you back in/park as needed. They stow any tow dollies elsewhere on the site and bring them to and from that location at check in and check out. Decent wifi in the main office, good laundry facility, clean and well-maintained grounds. Can get propane here for $3.50 a gallon and firewood for $5. Would definitely stay here again.

Convenient!

Lovely staff, great amenities (laundry room , pool which people were utilizing, coffee shop, pool stable and a small store inside. It's convenient to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore. We came from Deadwood, which is a little over an hour away.

This campground is a little packed together compared to what we usually go with but everyone keeps to themselves....we booked last minute and they happened to have a spot available, so we took it as we wanted to check our local tourist sites and are headed to Badlands next.

Wonderful

Nice camp ground, well maintained, clean, quite, nice showers and bathrooms. Staff were wonderful and helpful, very nice and family oriented. We stayed in a tent site. Water was close by and we did not need electric. They run a little coffee shop too and it was amazing, the kids loved the smoothies that they made. Pool was cold, but clean and looked inviting, but it was the end of may so that is normal. Laundry room was clean and easy access. They have everything you might need in the main office. Close location to get to anything. Loved Custer state park, visited spearfish canyon, bear mountain look out, wind cave national park, so many things to see. We would definitely stay again. And 25$ a night was a good price.

Eclectic mix for just about anyone

This campground is right next to the road and is only 3 miles from Crazy Horse and a few miles from the town of Custer. It makes it easy to hop on and off the highway (which also makes it a bit loud). It is a perfect spot to be able to get to Crazy Horse for Sunrise or if Sylvan State Park is full and you are trying to find a site nearby (our situation).

Sites include, picnic table, fire pit. Showers are hot and free to campers. However you should wear shower shoes in them.

There is also a heated pool and a laundry room.

Tent Sites: 5 People per site,$25 per night

RV Sites:$50 per site

There are also cabins and a deck house that fits more people.

Seven days in beautiful Black Hills

Our group of four adults and two kids under the age of ten picked did some tent camping at Custer Crazy Horse. Initially we wanted to camp inside Custer State Park but our late planning led us to only a few campgrounds with availability. We chose Custer Crazy Horse because a couple people in our group really wanted the comforts of shower, electricity and wifi and this place had all three! I'm personally use to primitive camping so I was expecting some sort of KOA-like setup. I was pleasantly surprised by how rugged and hilly the area was, how clean and fresh the facilities were, and (my favorite) how kind and hospitable the owners were! Twila is such a doll and allowed our 6 person party and 12 person tent to overflow onto 3 sites! We set up right by thr rocky outcrop which the kids loved playing on and meeting other kids at. Twila has a convenience store on the property with all the things you indeed forgot to bring as well as fresh complimentary coffee and two beautiful dogs that greeted everyone. Like I said, the showers and bathrooms were so clean! And they were always fresh everyday. This campground was also so close to everything! Very close to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse memorial, Mt. Rushmore, Hill City with a bunch of breweries and wineries, an hour out from Rapid City, and about an hour and a half to thr Badlands. And Twila gave us a pass to Custer State Park for the week which was so convenient since we were out there nearly everyday hiking and admiring the wildlife (especially the bison!). I highly recommend this campground! You will not be disappointed!
