Lake Powhatan Glamping — National Forests In North Carolina

This place is a nice campground, quiet and the guests (during our stay) respect others by keeping the noise down. The spaces are set up to maximize privacy between sites. There is no cell phone service (to do this report we are in a picnic area by a small lake and I can get cell as well as internet on my travelfi device) sos is the only access. I normally listen to audio books but not while here. On my computer I could see three others with low signals; they might have had a better device/provider. The spots tend to the small back in typically found in campsites built before RVs got really big, type. There is another camping area I haven’t been to yet and I did see a large over lander (looks indestructible and tall/long) towable head that way and the campground attendant didn’t predict any problems so perhaps there are larger spots elsewhere. This place has single person shower rooms and nice flush toilets. The whole place is set in woodland so it isn’t like a commercial RV place that was more concerned with volume over aesthetics. This is a lovely spot with ample amenities (my space had no hookups) for our type of camping (toilets, trash, quiet neighbors, semi private spaces) just zero phone or internet.

      John H. Moss Lake Campground

It’s a small, clean campground but we are next to a busy road (site 28) and also the entrance to the public access of Moss Lake. It’s a tight squeeze for us as a 33’ fifth wheel.

      Wash Creek Dispersed Pull-Off

Pull off along well used access road

Great spot to pull in last minute. There are multiple spots along this stretch of road. Would not recommend if you want to post up somewhere private, decent amount of traffic pulling through for a mountain road.

      Broad River Campground

      Beware!

If you ever plan on visiting Shelby / Broad River KOA Holiday Campground and have women or kids in your party, and y'all rent a unit from them, I'd rethink it or keep the door locked at all times. Our visit was wonderful up until the point a maintenance worker walks straight up in here on us.

      John H. Moss Lake Campground

      Good for small rigs

Tight fit, we stayed here with our 20ft trailer and it is a little tight. The site was at a slight angle and I noticed a lot of sites are the same way. Plus side is there is a security gate with code entry. Easy access to lake. Good clean boathouse and nice full hookups.

      Maddox Meadows RV Park

      Nice stopover

We stayed here because it was right between Brevard and Hendersonville. It’s a small park with full hook ups, a picnic table, and a fire ring. A new bath house on site with laundry. The bath house was clean but I went in on arrival and no TP was available at 3PM, so not sure how often they service the bathrooms. We later found out the office is only open a couple days a week, and I’m not even sure which days. I did not see a host sign either so that leaves me to wonder how often also. The majority of the people seem to live there which gives the park a different vibe. No friendly hellos and no one out grilling or around a campfire. The sites were pretty level, and a decent size. No shade to speak of, and there is not much area to actually walk a dog. They have 2 fenced areas that are dog parks that were nice but not terribly large. One day, one tenant put his dog inside the dog area and left him there for a bit to just bark. I’m sure the owner was close by but was not inside the fence area. They advertise that the Ecrusta Trailbis directly behind the park. It is… but it hasn’t been updated yet in the project of making it extremely useable. It has large rocks currently covering the trail and my Labrador was very uncomfortable walking on it. There is an Ingles across the street which was very convenient. And the location is good. If you are looking for a clean convenient stop with full hook ups this will be a great find. But I don’t think we will visit again as we are outdoorsy people

    What you should know

Site spacing varies: Some campgrounds offer more privacy than others. At Rutledge Lake RV Resort, a camper noted, "Some of the internal resort roads are in need of resurfacing, as there are quite a few potholes... most sites are very close together, many probably less than 15' apart."

Wi-Fi reliability: Internet connectivity can be inconsistent across campgrounds. "Overall WiFi was problematic. It took numerous attempts on my computer to connect to the numerous router networks," shared a camper at Rutledge Lake RV Resort.

Check swimming availability: Pools can be a welcome feature during hot months. "Pool was clean," noted Cassondra P. about Rutledge Lake RV Resort, providing an activity option when not exploring the region.

Verify bathroom facilities: Not all campgrounds offer full facilities. One camper at Hitching Post Campground reported, "Restrooms weren't working, so there was a port-a-potty. No showers," which could impact family camping comfort.

    Tips from RVers

Check hookup accessibility: At Yates RV Resort, RVers appreciate the full hookup sites. "Great Wi-Fi, level sites, and easy access to everything you could need," reports Brittany V., noting both the amenities and the helpful staff during her stay.

Road conditions inside parks: Internal roads can affect RV maneuverability. "The roads inside the park were easy to navigate and pull into our site," noted one RVer about their experience at an area campground.
