Anglers and boaters head to Taylor Ferry for direct access to Fort Gibson Lake, where catfish bite right off the rock pier and an excellent boat ramp handles watercraft up to the 35-foot RV limit. This US Army Corps of Engineers campground operates from early March through late October, offering both north and south camping areas with electric and water hookups but no sewer connections.
The campground sits close enough to Highway 51 that some campers notice road noise across the water, though most sites benefit from shade trees throughout the property. Recent visitors report finding fish skeletons along the shoreline, including alligator gar remains, and mushroom foragers spot oyster varieties in the wooded areas. Two dump stations serve the campground, and a Dollar General store sits just down the road for supplies.
Lake levels remain low for dam reconstruction work, allowing campers to walk farther into the water than usual from shoreline sites. "We caught some catfish right off the rock peer," notes Elizabeth B., who recommends bringing a water filter system. The north section includes a private shower house and closes for winter, while the main campground stays open year-round.
Taylor Ferry works well for RV campers seeking lake access and fishing opportunities, with Jackson Bay Recreation Area and Sequoyah State Park Campground providing additional options in the Fort Gibson Lake area.
