Sportsmans Lake near Henryetta features equestrian trails with yearly passes available for $30, making it a popular destination for horse enthusiasts. The lake offers dedicated horse trails throughout the wooded areas surrounding the campground, with daily equestrian rates of $3 for riders without annual passes. The campground provides primitive sites, water and electric hookups, and full-service options with sewer connections. The trails wind through forested areas, offering riders scenic routes appropriate for various skill levels. The natural terrain creates enjoyable riding experiences for both day visitors and overnight campers.
Located approximately 45 minutes from Henryetta, Rolling Stone Stables and RV Park accommodates horse trailers with accessible dirt road access suitable for large rigs. Despite the last quarter mile being unpaved, the road remains navigable for vehicles up to 42-foot motorhomes pulling car trailers. The campground connects to local trail systems where riders can exercise their horses away from busy roads. Horse owners frequently mention the peaceful setting and minimal traffic noise, creating a relaxing environment after trail riding. Water access points along trails provide natural drinking opportunities for horses during warmer months. Trail maintenance varies seasonally, with better conditions typically found in spring and fall when temperatures are more moderate for both horses and riders.
"Stayed in the Equestrian campground with access to miles and miles of trails. It was wonderful and some of the best hiking I have done in quite a while. The hikes along the lake edges were great."
"Campground was alongside the highway, however the highway divides the state park, sites up the hill are farther away from the highway."

Spent 2 weeks. Camp host Mike and his wife were awesome! Nice place to relax. We paddleboarded all over the lake and most days we were only ones on the lake. Site was easy to level our class A RV. We we on the end and had a nice big yard. Clean bathrooms And nice beach. Great stars at night and very quiet. Beautiful sunrises to from campground.
During the past five years, we've stayed at this park at least six times. It's a good overnight stopping point as we head back to Texas, with easy access from the highway and a nice dog park. If you travel with pets, then you know why that's important.
All the park staff we have ever dealt with were very friendly and helpful. The road from the highway to the park is easy to navigate for any size rig. The same inside the park; it's well-marked and easy to navigate. Even though it's close to the highway, you really won't hear much traffic noise, especially if you're at the rear of the park away from the roadway.
We were assigned to pull-through site number E1 with a concrete pad that is level from side to side. Power, Water, and Sewer were all conveniently located, and the power supply had no issues at all. We use a power management system, and all electrical parameters were spot on during our stay. Water pressure was very good, and the in-ground sewer connection was conveniently located.
NOTE: We always request space E1 because it is level, has a nice-sized shade tree that blocks the afternoon sun, and is close to the bathrooms, showers, pool, and laundry room. I've included several aerial photos of the park, and you will see that it is pretty full. Probably 90% of those staying here are full-time or seasonal. Row E is usually left open for travelers, so you might want to request a site on that row, as they are pretty much level. Even though the park has mostly full-time residents, it is nice, quiet, and well maintained. If it wasn't, we wouldn't continually stay here.
The bathrooms, showers, laundry room, and pool area are all located in one location at the front of Row E and are clean and well maintained with secure door and gate codes. Wi-Fi, Satellite, Cable, and OTA: We were able to get AT&T 5G with 3 bars. AT&T achieved 567 Mbps down and 6.43 Mbps up. Satellite reception should not be an issue at most sites, and if you do need totally clear access for satellite reception, there are sites available with no trees. We were able to get 30 OTA stations available, and they all had great reception with clear HD pictures. Cable and Wi-Fi were not available.
Dog Park: They have a very nice fenced-in park that is always in great condition. The park is divided for big and small dogs, and the large-dog area is very large with lots of tree coverage. They also provide doggie bags and a trash can.
Amenities: Lots of items are listed on their website, and you are only a few miles from town, where you can find plenty of stores and restaurants. Also, this is a Good Sam Park, so if you're a member, you'll get a discount if you let them know. Summary: A great place for an overnight stay, and I would not hesitate to recommend it- enjoy your stay!
Not only is the campground very nice, but they actually have a trail system which is the only campground to have that in the area. They have both tent camping regular R. V. Camping and equestrian spots with appropriate services for the horses.
Stayed in the Equestrian campground with access to miles and miles of trails. It was wonderful and some of the best hiking I have done in quite a while. The hikes along the lake edges were great. There are horse trails id have loved to have done but it was time to move on. Of all the campgrounds, and there are many in the park, the Equestrian is the best if you want to hike.
Rolling Stones stables & RV Park is tucked away in the woods, off the beaten path. Staff is friendly and helpful. Has a large dog park area, with trails and a small lake to explore. Lots of wildlife.
This place we stayed at is a small stable but has rv hookups, the road is dirt the last 1/4mile if you follow Tammy's directions you won't have a problem, I made it in with a 42ft allegro bus with a car trailer.
Showers need cleaning and water pressure is very poor
Close to water so woke up with a lot of condensation. Very average night
Equestrian camping near Henryetta, Oklahoma offers diverse terrain in the foothills of the Sans Bois Mountains, with elevations ranging from 650 to 900 feet. The region features mixed hardwood forests and open grasslands, creating varied trail experiences for both horses and hikers. Seasonal temperatures range from 30°F in winter to over 90°F in summer, with spring and fall providing the most comfortable camping conditions.
Horse trail riding: At Robbers Cave State Park, equestrian trails wind through old growth pine forests and rocky terrain. "This is such a great park, one of the best I have ever been to for equine camping. Horses are very happy here, just remember to bring your coggins paperwork," advises Kent B.
Fishing: Multiple lakes in the area offer good fishing opportunities. "Had a great time fishing at our campsite. Were the only ones at this campground. You'll have to find this treasure spot," shares Valerie C. about a secluded area at Robbers Cave State Park.
Hiking: Explore the unique geological features around Henryetta. "The hike was worth every hair raising nervous parent moment," notes Kyle H. about the ¾-mile trail to Robbers Cave, which features steep and rocky terrain with significant drop-offs.
Swimming: Cool off during hot summer months at one of several designated swimming areas. At Stroud Municipal Lake, you can "walk from your campsite to the water and get in and cool off," though Melanie W. cautions that "white clothes turn orange" after swimming.
Quiet atmosphere: Many equestrian campsites provide peaceful settings away from busy roads. At Sportsmans Lake, "Sunrise is beautiful and so are the stars. There are many geese on this lake, they have their own island where they hatch their babies every year. At night you really hear a lot of coyotes and owls," according to Melanie W.
Natural water features: Lakes throughout the region enhance the camping experience. "The lake has a great swimming beach area - this seems to be a fishing lake, only a few jet skis were out besides fishing boats. Sandy bottom lake near swim beach," reports Megan B. about Sheppard Point.
Wildlife viewing: The combination of forests and water attracts diverse wildlife. "We saw the second largest pine tree in Oklahoma, and drank water from an artesian well," notes Kyle H. about activities at Robbers Cave State Park.
Bathroom facilities vary widely: Quality and maintenance of facilities can differ significantly between campgrounds. At Sportsmans Lake, "restrooms tend to get messy because it is a city lake with only 1 worker/ranger who has to do everything," explains Melanie W.
Water availability is seasonal: Some campgrounds turn off water during colder months. Michael A. noted about Sheppard Point: "I camped in late November so water was shut off but electric worked well."
Reservation systems differ: While some parks allow advance booking, others operate on a first-come basis. For Wewoka Lake, "During the week there is always campsites. The lake is overcrowded on the weekends and during festivals," according to Melanie W.
Road conditions: Access to some equestrian campgrounds includes unpaved sections. "The road is dirt the last 1/4mile if you follow Tammy's directions you won't have a problem," advises Nathan T. about Rolling Stone Stables and RV park.
Look for playgrounds: Several campgrounds offer play areas for children. At Wewoka Lake, Aaron T. notes "It has a decent little playground and a swimming area, course you can swim around your campsite as well."
Choose campsites strategically: For families with young children, campsite location matters. At Little Turtle RV & Storage, Ronnie D. cautions, "The playground is right next to a pond with no fence."
Consider hiking difficulty: Trail ratings may not accurately reflect suitability for children. Kyle H. shares about Robbers Cave: "The hiking trail to the cave is steep and rocky with big drop-offs, so be careful with small children."
Check seasonal programs: Some parks offer special activities. "The Oklahoma Park staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to answer any of my questions. Also when you get to camp they will give you a schedule of all the events that are going throughout the week you are staying," recommends Kyle H.
Levelness varies: Be prepared with leveling blocks at some campgrounds. At Sheppard Point, one camper reported, "My RV spot is so unlevel it's almost unusable. Front to back there is 2 feet in elevation difference and a foot from side to side."
Power concerns: Electrical service can be inconsistent. The same camper at Sheppard Point noted, "The power pedestal, from the 120v 20amp receptacle, is putting out 134v. The neighboring spot's pedestal is putting out 103v."
Road access: Most equestrian campgrounds accommodate standard rigs, though some have limitations. At Rolling Stone Stables, Nathan T. managed with a large setup: "I made it in with a 42ft allegro bus with a car trailer."
Senior discounts: Several campgrounds offer reduced rates. At Stroud Municipal Lake, Deborah C. noted, "We paid $15 with senior citizen discount."
