    Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA

    A Traditional KOA Experience

This was a Fall camping experience in a cabin as we knew it would be cold in the evenings.  We also had a non-camper with us so this was a nice compromise.  We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms.  We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire.  This was another way for us to social distance as COVID-19 was still an issue.

I also took photos of the camping bathrooms as each KOA does it a little differently. You will notice that the bathroom is unisex.  It is a single bathroom (toilet and shower).  This is in the center of the campground.  The bathroom photos below are not of the cabin.

The cabin you see here is the Deluxe. "Deluxe Cabin(More than two Bathrooms), Patio Deluxe Cabin(w/ Bathroom)- Evergreen KL8-9-10 Perfect for large family or two couples with two queen bedrooms, sleeping loft, 1 1/2 baths, kitchenette, 3 tvs located in quiet corner with shade trees. Sorry, Not Pet Friendly! Linens are included in all seasons except Winter. Please bring pool towels." Taken from Reservation Email.

For 2 nights it totaled $153.00 which is a good price compared to other cabins we were looking at within the region.  We could have had others camping in the tent section of the campground so it is an easy way to have a mixed crowd for a camping outing.

I did type in some information into the Special Requests within my reservation booking online, as I had a question about who had to pick up the key as a friend lived closer.  No one responded and I had to call them.

Cabins Check in is at 3PM and Check out is at 12 PM

We were able to buy firewood from the KOA camp office. They bring it to your campsite and we were able to grill hotdogs and other food items on our camp fire.  Do read the general information closely and look at number 15 for a free scoop of ice cream.

https://www.whitehousefruitfarm.com/donuts  We did a donut run and explored the farm for our outing for the day.

We also spent the day checking out a local mill https://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/visit/places/mill-creek-park/lantermans-mill/

    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton

    Cabins could be better

The bunk beds have very thin rv style bunk bed mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam. Needs to invest in better mattresses.

Guide to Mogadore

Cabin camping near Mogadore, Ohio offers campers access to several nearby lakes, including Mogadore Reservoir and Berlin Lake, where visitors can fish for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. The region sits at approximately 1,100 feet above sea level in northeastern Ohio's glaciated plateau, with summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-85°F and moderate humidity. Winter cabin rentals remain available at select locations, though many campgrounds operate seasonally from April through October.

What to do

Fishing in Mogadore Reservoir: Cabin campers at Countryside Campground can access the reservoir via a short trail. "There is a nice path through the woods down to the reservoir, where you can fish and kayak," notes Kathryn P. The reservoir is known for largemouth bass and panfish.

Water activities at Clay's Resort Jellystone Park: This family-oriented park features extensive water recreation beyond basic swimming. "The lake was virtually algae free, and even during this pandemic, it didn't feel over crowded at any point. My kids really enjoyed the entire time and were wore out!" reports Chuck E.

Mini golf courses: Several campgrounds offer mini golf as part of their included amenities. A visitor to Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA mentioned, "This campground has a lot of amenities standard to KOAs: Showers, clean bathrooms, a small store etc. There were 3 small ponds on site and games/parks for the kids."

What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Travelers frequently mention bathroom quality as a key factor in their camping experience. At West Branch State Park Campground, campers specifically note, "Best bathrooms around! Showers great. Bathrooms great. Lots of 'lakefront' spots. Dog park is pretty great, too!"

Lake access for boating: Many cabin campers appreciate direct water access for their watercraft. "We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean," says Alisa G. about West Branch State Park.

Hiking trails: The region offers numerous walking paths ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. "There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd," explains one reviewer, highlighting the variety of outdoor activities beyond water recreation.

What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Travelers should research specific site locations before booking. At West Branch, one camper noted: "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Water quality concerns: Some campgrounds use well water with varying mineral content. A camper at Woodside Lake Park reported: "I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything... This year even the laundry machines were too disgusting to use that we had to go into town for laundry."

Reservation timing: For prime summer weekends, book 4-6 months in advance, especially for waterfront cabins. Premium sites at popular campgrounds like Clay's Resort Jellystone Park fill quickly for holiday weekends.

Tips for camping with families

Activity scheduling: Download campground apps where available to track scheduled events. A visitor to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park- Akron/Canton advised: "I HIGHLY recommend you download the CampersApp (park code YOGIAC) if you decide to stay here because it gives you reminders and updates of what's going on, weather, pay per use services."

Inflatable water features: Several parks offer inflatable structures in swimming areas during summer months. At KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake, a camper shared: "Overall we had a great time, kids absolutely loved swimming in the little lake and sliding/jumping off the inflatables."

Playground equipment: Check playground availability before booking, as maintenance can affect access. At Country Acres, one visitor reported: "The playground was covered in caution tape, so it could not be used," highlighting the importance of confirming amenity status before arrival.

Tips from RVers

Early arrival recommended: Several campgrounds have complex layouts making navigation difficult. At Country Acres, a camper advised: "Advice - get there early or you'll have many vehicles and campers to watch for as you back in!"

Plan for leveling challenges: Bring adequate leveling equipment as many sites throughout the region have uneven terrain. "Sites are gravel and level. We enjoyed full hookups. Cable was better than most but WiFi could be a little weak," noted Sharon J. about her experience at a local KOA.

Local supplies: Stock up on essentials before arrival. For cabin guests needing fresh meat, one camper recommended: "Stop at Duma Meats to grill something delicious!" when staying at Countryside Campground, showing the advantage of local knowledge for meal planning.
