Best RV Parks & Resorts near Gates Mills, OH

RV parks surrounding Gates Mills include Roundup Lake RV Resort, Punderson State Park, and Kool Lakes Family RV Park, all offering seasonal accommodations within 30 miles of the area. Punderson State Park provides both 30-amp and 50-amp sites with varying hookup options, though some sites present leveling challenges. "Very few full hookups. The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground," noted one visitor. Roundup Lake RV Resort features pull-through sites with full hookups and substantial shade, accommodating larger rigs up to 33 feet. Most parks operate from May through October, with Punderson State Park remaining open year-round.

Access roads throughout these campgrounds are predominantly gravel with some paved sections at Punderson State Park. Full hookup sites are limited at certain parks, particularly Punderson, so advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer months. At Woodside Lake Park, water quality issues have been reported, with one camper describing "iron and sulfur laden well water" requiring additional filtration. Most RV parks allow pets and provide standard amenities such as trash service, bathhouses, and dump stations. Cell service varies by location, with stronger signals reported at parks closer to Cleveland. Propane filling stations are not available on-site at most campgrounds, requiring trips to nearby towns for resupply.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Monster Campsites!

This park has huge campsites ! The pads are paved and they left a section of trees/woods behind each site to provide some privacy between neighbors. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The park is directly across the road from the paved bike trail which leads to the beach, marina, lodge and strip area. The trail is dog friendly but the beach is not. The campground is also pet friendly.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Excellent Park & Campground!

We have just returned from our first stay at Punderson and have no complaints! Sites are smallish, but clean, mostly level and well kept, as is the camping area in general. There are NO pull-through sites I am aware of. Had a picnic with nearby family at one of the pavilions… again, neat and clean and well taken care of. Very quiet at night, which is something we look for. Firewood for sale on site was a bit pricey, but that’s to be expected. Only complaint was lack of strong WIFI, but we have our own uplink. Will definitely return!

Guide to Gates Mills

Private campsites and RV sites near Gates Mills, Ohio cluster around lake regions within 30 miles of this suburban community. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations between 700 and 1,100 feet, featuring mixed hardwood forests that provide natural shade. Seasonal operations typically run April through October, with cooler spring temperatures in the 50s-60s°F and summer averages in the 70s-80s°F.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Kool Lakes Family RV Park, campers can fish directly from lakeside sites. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," writes one visitor who enjoyed site A24's waterfront access.

Water recreation: Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake provides multiple swimming options with two pools and proximity to Lake Erie beaches. "It close to many activities in Geneva on the lake, the strip! Nice landscaping and a great camp store at the entrance. Lots of amenities. Hall, restaurant, pool, fitness center, activities center," notes one camper who valued the location.

Hiking trails: Wooded areas surrounding campgrounds offer hiking opportunities, particularly at Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake where one camper reported "plenty of open space and trails" that made it ideal for remote working with an external cellular antenna.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground earns praise for its well-maintained grounds and generous site dimensions. "Level gravel sites with really great grassy areas. We stayed memorial weekend and it was quiet by 9 every night. They do a great job keeping the park looking beautiful," writes one repeat visitor.

Lake activities: Woodside Lake Park features water-based recreation that families particularly enjoy. "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," notes one regular visitor who stays multiple times annually.

Weekend events: Many campgrounds coordinate themed activities for guests. At Kenisee's Grand River Campground, a visitor mentioned "a lot of events and entertainment for family's. Multiple fishing ponds, Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities."

What you should know

Water quality concerns: In addition to previously noted issues at Woodside Lake Park, visitors should prepare for variable water quality. One 2025 reviewer described "iron & sulfur laden well water" requiring additional filtration, recommending: "Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on. Bring plenty of filters."

Site leveling needs: Many campgrounds in the region have uneven terrain requiring preparation. At Punderson State Park Campground, one visitor cautioned: "The sites greatly very on size and flatness so make sure you look at the pictures of the site before you book some are basically the parking pad and a fire ring, some are big and flat some are on an incline."

Reservation timing: Summer weekends fill quickly at most campgrounds near Gates Mills. Kenisee's Grand River Campground uses gated entry with provided access codes after payment, allowing for secure late arrivals when arranged in advance.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming areas: Roundup Lake RV Resort offers lake swimming with inflatable play structures. "Given the size and amenities this campground boasts, I feel it must be a real attractive campground for families during the summer. Campsites surround a sizable lake which boasts inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts," observed one September visitor.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds maintain playground equipment for younger children. At Woodside Lake Park, a visitor with tent camping experience noted it was "very kid friendly" even though they stayed in the quieter hilltop tent area away from the busier RV sections.

Craft activities: During pandemic restrictions, Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake adapted their programming by offering "craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program," according to a visitor who appreciated the campground's family accommodations.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: For RV sites near Gates Mills, Ohio with more privacy, consider back-in options. At Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake, one RVer recommended: "We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded."

Internal traffic: Most campgrounds enforce strict 5 mph speed limits, though some locations have issues with compliance. Several reviewers noted children on bikes at night can be hazardous, with one 2025 visitor to Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake writing: "These kids on bikes all night driving right in front of karts at 11 p.m. is out of control."

Seasonal considerations: While most campgrounds operate May through October, Punderson State Park remains open year-round with winterized facilities, though reviewers note site selection becomes even more important in off-season months for level terrain and accessibility.
