Mounds State Recreation Area Campground — Brookville Lake

This is a nice little campground. There is a lot of space between campers, and the spots are asphalt and somewhat level. It didn’t feel crowded at all. There are plenty of good hiking trails around and it’s fun to go look at the dam. Highly recommend going to the overlook at sunset!

      East Fork State Park Campground

A large campground spread out over multiple loops. Roads and campsites are paved. Our site #416 was spacious and secluded at the end of a dead end road. The bathhouse was a short hike away and in good condition.

      Friendly and quiet

There are a lot of people here, but even during the day we hardly hear any loud noises coming from any of the other campers. Walking the property (as much as I can with my cane) everyone is so friendly. The grounds are kept very clean. The people from the office actually do garbage pick-up anytime during office hours! Just place your trash bag/ other items to be thrown away at the front of your site and they take it away. They even have recycling, but you have to take that up yourself. They won't just tell you where it is, they will show you. I haven't been to a KOA site in 15 years and the one I went to was not a great experience, but I highly recommend staying here if you're passing through Cincinnati.

      Rough Access

We made reservations to stay here for 3 nights and missed the first night due to damaging weather nearby, (tornadoes in Cincinnati.) On day two when we arrived we found the access driveway to be deeply creviced from washout conditions. We straddled the crevices on the uphill drive but we were unable to make the 90° narrow access to the site, spinning out in the wet grass on multiple tries.

The only option for exit is to back down the driveway, which in our MB Cruiser (8,000+ lbs) was challenging.

The host is extremely communicative and a pleasure to chat with pre-arrival and completely understanding of our dilemma. We chose not to stay the remaining nights.

Had the weather been favorable, access may have been much easier and is definitely passable for car, truck or small van camping. If your turning radius is long, reserve site #1 which may have been passable for us but we did not attempt because that is not what we had reserved, but the host later offered to us. Site #1 is the lower grassy flat with much wider access.

Check with host about condition of driveway and entry before reserving.

    Guide to Miamitown

Cincinnati's proximity provides convenient access to several RV parks near Miamitown, Ohio. The area experiences four distinct seasons with hot summers and cold winters, making spring and fall the most popular camping times for visitors seeking moderate temperatures.

    What to Do

Water activities on the Ohio River: At Tucker's Landing, campers can enjoy watching barges navigate the river. "We visited for a weekend in April. Site 22 had a beautiful view of the ohio river. The kids enjoyed seeing the barges going up and down the river," notes Lindsey S. There's also a ramp for paddleboards and kayaking, though one visitor mentions "it's very muddy we didn't end up using it."

Golfing options: Several campgrounds offer golf courses within their boundaries. At Thousand Trails Wilmington, campers appreciate the proximity to outdoor activities. The campground is "close enough to Kings Island that we made a trip over," according to Ryan H., making it a good base for day trips to attractions.

Fishing opportunities: Many parks have fishing ponds or lake access. A.J. Jolly Park offers fishing in their lake with "good fishing opportunity and there's also a golf course," according to Lisa S. Indian Springs Campground allows fishing in their lake with a catch and release policy.

    What Campers Like

Waterfront sites: Many RV sites near Miamitown, Ohio feature views of water. At Follow The River RV Resort, campers appreciate the waterfront location. There is pool access, a tree for shade at every lot, a picnic table at every lot and water access as well," reports Abigaile J.

Peaceful environments: Most parks offer quiet settings despite highway proximity. "This was a great little find right on the banks of the Ohio River. Family owned operation…and just the nicest people you could ever imagine," says Stephen & Theresa B. about Swiss Haven RV Resort. The location provides "easy access to both the communities of Vevay and Madison Indiana which are rich in history, unique architecture, dining, shopping and wineries."

Recreational amenities: Many campgrounds feature pools and playgrounds. At Follow The River RV Resort, Jessica G. notes, "There is a pool, volleyball courts and a dog park." Some parks offer canoe and pedal boat rentals at no extra charge.

    What You Should Know

Site accessibility issues: Several RV parks have specific limitations. One visitor to Hidden Valley Mobile Home Park states, "This RV park is more of a place for permanent residents. When we went there were literally no spots available. We had to stay in the parking lot for the RV park."

Road conditions: Some campgrounds have maintenance issues. At A.J. Jolly Park & Campground, Jeffrey notes, "It's terrible road it ungraded sites are in level the approach to the sites are terrible it was t planes out very well not well maintained. It would make a better off road park that a premium RV site."

Campground policies: Each park has specific rules regarding pets, vehicles, and reservations. At Indian Springs Campground, one potential visitor reported being turned away based on their vehicle type: "When I told her I was traveling in my converted 2012 shuttle bus she immediately informed me that 'no, we don't take those vehicles here'."

    Tips for Camping with Families

Playground availability: Choose campgrounds with kid-friendly amenities. At Winton Woods Campground, Jeremy K. reports, "Great campground and park. Plenty to do. Hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, splash park, etc." This makes it suitable for families seeking multiple activities.

Waterfront safety: Consider site placement when camping with children near water. At Tucker's Landing, one visitor mentions, "The kids could scooter around. Quiet but full. We'd definitely stay again. Very clean and safe."

Weather planning: Summer heat can be intense in this region. Jessica G. advises, "It is hot in June, so bring a canopy if your RV doesn't have one" when staying at Follow The River RV Resort.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many parks have uneven sites requiring preparation. At A.J. Jolly Park, Bobby C. explains, "The sites I'm at are on a hillside so think theatrical style site. None are level looking so you will need to know what your doing to level your rig."

Hookup configurations: Check hookup locations before arrival. At Indian Springs Campground, "The pull thru FHU sites were level and had enough room for our tow vehicle. There was a nice picnic table, but the placement of the fire ring was a little odd," according to Jessica L.

Seasonal variations: Year-round RV sites near Miamitown vary in condition by season. At Thousand Trails Indian Lakes, one camper noted, "The lot is gravel and very large for my small rig which was cool. It was nice and level, so I didn't have to do much. Because it's off season, there isn't a lot going on, but I'm ok with that."
