Both destinations feature climate-controlled canvas structures with electricity and comfortable bedding, providing a luxury outdoor experience without sacrificing comfort. The glamping units at Punderson State Park include private decks overlooking scenic woodlands, while West Branch State Park offers yurts with kitchenettes and en-suite bathrooms. According to one camper, "The site was as to be expected from a KOA. I had a lot of amenities standard to KOAs: Showers, clean bathrooms, a small store etc. There were 3 small ponds on site and games/parks for the kids." These glamping pods and domes blend seamlessly with the natural environment while providing resort-style amenities that traditional camping lacks.

Strategically located near Cuyahoga Valley National Park, these glamping campsites serve as ideal bases for exploring the region's hiking trails, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. On-site recreational activities include catch-and-release fishing in stocked ponds, swimming in seasonal pools with inflatable water features, and guided night sky viewing sessions during summer months. One visitor noted, "The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland." The proximity to Brandywine Falls, Chagrin Falls, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame makes these geodesic domes and safari tents popular with travelers seeking both natural beauty and cultural attractions without sacrificing comfort.

      Woodside Lake Park

      Convenient and lots of choices

We stayed in the fall for one night to visit Cuyahoga Valley Park (about 25 minutes away, as is a Costco). Many choices for short term sites. From the many permanent RVs and water slides in the pond, looks like it could be less quiet other times of year and a fun place for kids (we weren’t traveling with any). Staff nice and helpful but showers were old and dirty, probably in part to the high iron in the water (we didn’t hook up water).

      West Branch State Park Campground

Great overnight close to Ohio Turnpike

We were passing through on a weeknight in mid September. Many open sites. Sites are paved and many are sloped. Most are shaded. Our site #41 was fairly level with electricity. Close to huge bathhouse with flush toilets, showers and laundry. High above the lake with views through the trees. Appeared there were many long term campers but just as good for our short overnight stay. Online registration. $45 for electric only site.

      Punderson State Park Campground

      Quiet and Lush

Our site was level, although I observed many that are not. It was fairly quiet, although the sites are pretty small. Ours was described as 'waterfront', but it was so overgrown between the site and the shoreline that there was no access and the lake wasn't visible. Bathrooms were very clean and the shower worked great.

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

      Relaxing and peaceful

Mosquito Lake gets a bad rap because of its name. We had such a great time launching our kayak from our campsite! I’ve attached a highlighted map marked with the sights on or very close to the water to launch a kayak. Additional kayak launch sites available around the park if you can’t get one of these. It’s great campground if you have kids or a dog. Plenty of great playgrounds and a dog park/dog beach. The camp host was very nice and welcoming. The wash house has laundry and showers. Everything was clean.

      Headwaters Park

      Campsite A

Had a nice stay at the Camp Site A tent site, which they label as their ADA Accessible site.

Overall me and the kids had a really nice time hanging atbthe site and exploring around the lake. Lots of friendly people too.

      Pros:

      • Tent site was generally good with a picnic table and fire pit on-site
      • Pull in parking right next to the campsite (which seems to be true for all tents and leantos)
      • Great walkable area with lots to explore with the kids
      • A few nice things just a 10min drive away like the Eagle Park splash park and playground and the cute Burton town square.
      • Tons of birds for all my bird watchers
      • Right at the entrance to the tent site area and right next to the restrooms
      • Sometimes people bring horses down there for a walk
      • Can't see other campers tent from your site (which i like because Im out here to get away from people)

      Cons:

      • Being right next the restrooms and tent area entrance is a higher traffic area. Didn't bother us much but could get annoying if woken up by a late night driver or door slam
      • The stump on the tent site has a snake in it. Didn't bother us at all, only saw it once as it was slithering away, but thought other might like to know.
      • Toilet was out of hand sanitizer

      FAQ:

      • No electic
      • No plumbing or showers (it is basically an outhouse)

      Clay's Resort Jellystone Park

NO communication and severely lacking customer service skills

I won’t rate the other categories yet but I’ve been upset the whole process trying to plan my trip and the people have made it impossible. I’m constantly unable to get ahold of the park. I keep getting put on the“call back list” when trying to modify a reservation only for NO ONE to ever call back. I finally get ahold of someone after a MONTH… only to have zero customer service skills… they just said“oh we don’t even have a call list” so I ask for another form of communication I can have with me since my trip is in a month and I’ve had these issues for a month… they offer ZERO solutions and are not empathetic either. Another issue was last year I was hospitalized for several months due to an early twin birth so I had to push my trip to the following year… when I FINALLY got ahold of the park last year the women I spoke with trying to manage the rescheduling…was ZERO help surprise surprise… on top of that it took 13 calls and weeks before a manager got back to me…making the window to reschedule or get refunds closer to closing adding stress that you might not get to make your next move how you’d like… anyway…I simply asked for dates that matched the costs that we already paid for the trip so I didn’t have to pay more… I simply asked for it to be within the summer days since my previous reservation was during the summer time with all the extra water park and amenities that close at the end of August. I booked when my kid could use all amenities and there were no hour restrictions either due to still being in season. However the lady couldn’t accommodate or recommend any alternate dates to suite my trip that weren’t several hundred dollars more… now we started out with a trip all paid for last year with all amenities no hour restrictions to a weekend we had to pay more and are restricted hours wise on the summer amenities. As the person doing reservations you should be able to recommend dates and help me plan the trip accordingly to the money spent and not sit on the other end of the phone demanding I just give you dates…. After our trip we will never plan or schedule anything at this park again. Regardless of the amenities… for families traveling far distances you couldn’t make it anymore inconvenient, difficult, and time consuming for simply planning questions or just getting ahold of you in general. No sorrys…. Just a whole lot of…”hmm that’s weird well oh well, next” kind of attitude. Zero solutions just excuses. So that being first impressions not too excited to find out what we are in for when we arrive. Especially reading other reviews about deflated balls so you can’t use the hoops, broken a/c units that the property won’t even handle that their own employees have to give up their own personal comfort cause management won’t?… concession stands trash everywhere… broken hot tubs, WiFi not working in cabins for night time with children is tough…sad that my family’s first camping trip ever hasnt even happened yet and it’s been nothing but a headache to plan because of the staff. Yall make money to make the experience smooth for your consumers but somebody missed the memo.

      Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

      Enjoyable

The staff here was excellent. We got a spot near the entrance that had the doggy play pen. It was a well built structure. I felt good about my dogs being in it. The campground is wonderful. So peaceful and pretty. As and added plus for anybody a fan of the band The Cars, Ben Orr’s grave is not far.

      Punderson State Park Campground

      One of our favorites

We love this park! Unfortunately it’s been so booked this summer we haven’t been able to go. It’s literally 30 minutes from us. The sites are fairly nice. Some near the water are shallow and you have to be careful. The park surrounding it is lovely. There’s a beach, a golf course and even a lodge and cabins. We always get good internet with our hot spot. If I’m being honest though, the worst thing is the bath house. The showers suck! There’s no privacy and I would never use them. There’s a nice playground for kids and a little nature center. We love riding our e-bikes there. Lots of critters and I’ve even seen an otter! Give it a try if you can find an opening!

      American Wilderness Campground

      Money Grubbers

Made a reservation. Canceled since wife had to go into hospital due to an emergency. No flexibility in the 7-day prior window. State parks and others have all been decent to us over this. We paid 3 days for a reservation we never used but canceled 2 days out. The park did not fill up so they took our money over a gotcha clause even after I begged the manager for her understanding. Under the circumstances, I was hoping they would compromise and take only the first night, but they are in it mainly for your money, I'm afraid.

    Guide to Bedford

Campgrounds near Bedford, Ohio offer diverse overnight options including rustic tent sites and fully-equipped yurts. The region sits at elevations ranging from 700 to 1,100 feet above sea level with summer temperatures typically between 70-85°F and winter lows often below freezing. The area's glacial history has created distinctive ravines and wetlands that support abundant wildlife throughout the camping season.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Anglers visiting Mill Creek Camping have access to Berlin Lake with multiple shoreline access points. "We book a lakefront site and it is just gorgeous! We have our own private little beach which our dog loves," notes Sarah K., who appreciated the convenient boat docking options. The campground features catch-and-release fishing in stocked ponds.

Disc golf courses: Punderson State Park Campground offers a full disc golf course within walking distance of most campsites. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," reports Rebecca G., highlighting the variety of recreational options. The course winds through wooded areas with dedicated tee boxes and baskets.

Horseback riding trails: The grounds at Headwaters Park include equestrian-friendly paths connecting to the broader trail system. As Rebecca G. explains, the park is "best for relaxation, chill kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, and shorter walks." The horse trails are well-marked with mounting blocks at key locations throughout the system.

    What campers like

Private lake access: At Mill Creek Camping, waterfront sites provide direct shoreline access. Katie notes it's "one of my favorite campgrounds visited this summer (came back again!)" and appreciates the "numerous fishing and open swimming opportunities (basically anywhere you want along the water)." The sites cost around $18 for waterside locations that accommodate up to 8 people and 2 tents.

Clean facilities: Countryside Campground maintains well-kept bathrooms and shower facilities. "The bathrooms were clean, the showers were nice and the pool was well kept. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition," reports Kathryn P. The campground regularly services amenities throughout the day.

Spacious tent sites: Tent campers at Penitentiary Glen Reservation appreciate the secluded forest setting. "It's like you have the forest to yourselves out here," says Jillian E., though she notes "the walk to the site was a bit more of a haul than expected." Sites feature ample space between neighbors with natural barriers providing privacy.

    What you should know

Water quality concerns: Be aware of potential water issues at Woodside Lake Park. A recent camper warns about "iron & sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park." Jerry L. recommends asking "where and what water source you are on" and suggests bringing "plenty of filters and plan on sanitizing your system after staying there."

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area have uneven terrain. At West Branch State Park, one camper reports, "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches." Bring extra leveling blocks, especially for trailers and RVs.

Seasonal facilities: Check operating hours before arrival as some amenities close early or seasonally. Jennifer H. at Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA wished "swimming (were) open a little later," while others noted boat rentals and some facilities may have limited availability off-season.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water features: American Wilderness Campground offers water recreation options for all ages. Andrew V. reports, "Beautiful clean serene park with absolutely stunning beach views at sunset." Jessica J. adds, "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining."

Playgrounds and activities: Family campers appreciate the organized recreation options at multiple campgrounds. Tommy K. found Countryside Campground great for families, noting, "The camp store had plenty of odds and ends in case you forget something small." Katie at Mill Creek highlights that children can "skateboard, scooter, or bike throughout the whole campground."

Yurt camping options: For families seeking Bedford, Ohio yurt camping experiences without roughing it, West Branch State Park offers yurts with creature comforts. Alisa G. describes the campground as "our favorite" and mentions "private, spacious, shady sites" where her family makes "sure to visit every year."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: RVers at Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA should consider site width when booking. Jennifer H. appreciated that "these sites were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out." She particularly valued that "it's always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide."

Hookup availability: Electric service varies widely between campgrounds. Coy at Punderson State Park warns, "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service." Call ahead to confirm adequate power for your specific RV requirements, especially for air conditioning units that require 30-50 amp service.

Road access considerations: Many campgrounds have limited turning radius for larger rigs. Joe F. advises those with longer trailers to "get there early or you'll have many vehicles and campers to watch for as you back in!" Some campgrounds list themselves as big-rig friendly but have challenging entry roads or tight interior roads.
