JC Cooper is a solid CG

Kerr Lake has many nice CGs and JC Cooper is a good choice for stays. It is easy to get to and has spacious sites and quite a few are waterfront. Some have private beaches. We have stayed at a number of sites and all have been nice, none very level though.

Crowded and noisy

Normally Kerr Lake is a favorite of ours, but Nutbush is our least favorite campground so far. At least in Area 3. We thought we would be ok because we were in site 109 at the front of the pack. Wrong. Still awful. It was supposed to be pull through but we couldn’t because it was shared with a…

Last minute reservation - gorgeous

I had a short but lovely stay at this campground. My site was right on the lake - it was easy to get to and clean. (I booked a site without electric or water.) Restrooms and facilities were tidy and the staff at the front desk were incredibly polite. Would 100 percent go back.

Great Campground - Reasonably Priced

Labor Day weekend car camping at Medoc Mountain State Park campground!  Had a great time camping and hiking.  Spacious campsite with gravel parking space, gravel tent pad, picnic table, fire ring with grill and lantern pole.  We were fortunate that we had shade at our site most of the day.

Beautiful, spacious campsites!

Loved this CG. Have stayed at JC Cooper (like), Nutbush (stay away!), Bullocksville (like), Kimball Point (love too, depends on site though). Campsites are well spaced. Quiet at night. Bathrooms were adequate, but not terribly new which is why I did t give this five stars. Lake is fantastic from…

Quiet location with good amenities

This was our shakedown for our new camper. We found the site to be very neat and well cared for. The trails are very nice. There are lots of nice camping spots including some pull through sites. It was hot when we camped — but there is lots of late afternoon shade. It seems that higher numbers…

Bugs galore

Nice and quiet campground. Plenty of bugs including pesky horse flies. We stayed at a spot that had a path down to the beach. Would stay here again. Nice views. Water was clear. Some sites are on a slope so check your site first. The recreation.gov site has pictures of the lots.

Awesome

This place is great and unlike anywhere I’ve been in VA/NC in terms of the lake. The water is crystal clear with sandy beaches. It’s beautiful. Campsites are massive with potable water at each, and almost all have a fantastic view of the lake and/or are on the lake. One downside is there is no…

Decent small campsite

We stayed in site 4 which was fairly level if you park in the right spot. The bathrooms were clean and the hosts were friendly. No cell service, but if you go to the Visitor’s center during the day they have WiFi. The history of the location is interesting. We won’t spoil it for you.

Another Great Weekend

We stayed another weekend at this campground for a birthday party. The staff were extremely helpful and allowed us to start setting up our shelter for the party several hours early. Definitely recommend this campground.

Just not our thing

The stream access was great and so was the bathhouse. It was very crowded for our taste with sites that were very close. We were also eight beside a camper that blasted their music for two days straight. Lots of campers were annoyed but no one from the campground did anything about it. The camp…

Good old family fun!

Kids had a blast playing in the water and taking the paddle boats out. Campground was clean, quiet and spacious! We camped in a tent not far from the beach area. The water park/pool wasn’t open due to COVID-19 but the kids were happy with the beach. There was a dance party with yogi and his friends…

Relaxing, beautiful, fun

Was more than expected! Being right on the lake was awesome. Walk out of your tent and “bam,” see the beautiful sights! We camped for the weekend as a mom/daughter getaway (me, my toddler, and my mom). Daughter had a blast swimming in the lake and catching her very first fish!!! Our site was in a…
