Kimball Point Campground — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Nice campground. Nice people/hosts. Bathroom not so much. Long backup to get to the site. Hookups on wrong side. But lots of beautiful sites. Mostly all waterfront. E/W

We camped here at the end of March ( Easter Weekend ) and it was wonderful. The sites are spread out and not on top of each other. The restrooms were immaculate and the staff was courteous.

Kimball Point is the BEST. Huge fresh water lake, large camping spots, large sandy beach, playground for kids, very well groomed, moor your boat in the water at your camp site, big boat ramp, pet friendly, great walking areas, tent & RV spaces, NC State run park. Only negative it's hard to book a space. You need to book it EXACTLY 6 months out, call at 08:00 in morning.

We camped lake side at Kimball Point on Kerr Lake. Nice site and views, very quiet great for relaxing fishing and watching the stars at night

Beautiful sunsets, great lake for boating & fishing, very quite, extremely hard to get reservations, need to try 11 months out.

My kids loved this place, we stayed in site 77. Basically 100ft to the water, sites are not on top of each other. My only gripe is that not every site has its own water. I had run 60ft water hose to the next site over.

Tent sites are a bit confusing as some share the same car access but split into two lower.

Some of the lots are marked as tent OR RV which I guess they are but we would probably not boondock here again as it isn't flat but the RV sites look amazing.

Bathrooms: 5/5 clean & air-conditioning in all of them.

Sites: 3/5 just average/fine

Pools: 0/5 no pool

Beach: 3/5 private beach but not upkept. Loads of rock/Carolina clay/trash sea grass

Waterfrontness: 5/5 weird water but pretty to look at

Closeness to other sites: 1/5 you are up each other's buttcracks

Dog rating: 4/5 no problem but also SO dog friendly we had to be very mindful of others not having their dogs on leash.

This place is great and unlike anywhere I’ve been in VA/NC in terms of the lake. The water is crystal clear with sandy beaches. It’s beautiful. Campsites are massive with potable water at each, and almost all have a fantastic view of the lake and/or are on the lake. One downside is there is no store / firewood to buy, so you either have to find scraps there or buy some at Buchanan’s store (5-10 min drive) for $6/bundle. Do NOT bring your own firewood because you can easily spread invasive species and destroy this beautiful place. Id highly recommend to anyone.

Very private and large waterfront site with private beach.

Kimball Point is the second Kerr Lake Stare Park campground we have visited. The other, JC Cooper, is about 10 miles south on the same side of the lake. This pro is smaller than the other and more sand versus red clay. Sites seemed spacious and clean. Stayed in site 52, which had great views but was a tad oddly configured. It was a back-in site, but you couldn’t quite back in far because of trees and roots, so a longer electric line and water hose is a must. It was fine for us. Also the fire ring was a primitive rock structure that worked just fine, but was different than other sites in the park that had the typical fire ring.

This park is amazing. The majority of spots are water front or close to it. Many of have easy access to a beach. The lake is very clean, unlike some other lakes in NC, and absolutely beautiful sunrise or sunset. Spots are spaced out comfortably with gravel sites and the standard fire pit/grill, table and light hook. Be warned that the sites vary pretty widely in size and grade. We have a 32’ travel trailer that fit in spot 65 with no problem but there were many more that we could not fit in because of the steep grades. Many sites are really best suited for tents (which would be excellent sites) while others are open for Class As. Small bathrooms if you need them didn’t use them so can’t comment on cleanliness. Will absolutely be back.
