Great place to stay, safe location, and has a family atmosphere.

Great place to stay, safe location, and has a family atmosphere.  Space was large and I was able to pull through without having to de-attach my car trailer.

Bullocksville — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

    Very Nice Lake Front

These sites are mostly reservable on the state website, there are many of these campgrounds within the Kerr Lake State Rec Area. 8 in total i believe, we have visited 2 so far, but plan to visit them all. Bullocksville, has Electric and non electric sites, for the most part, the electric sites are more level and developed. We do notice some non electric good sites, but many of those are hillside sloped to the lake. When on site to reserve if you check amenties, it gives you many details, level, length, width, tent pads, etc. so just pay attention to those things and you should be able to book a wonderful campsite in a pretty lakefront campground. Great hot showers, sandy beach area here, boat ramp and launch. Paved roads around campground loop with nice gravel lots on many. We stayed on site 34, 80 feet long, level gravel site, squared gravel picnic area off to side attached to back in site. Picnic table all on mostly shaded site. It was about as close to the bathouse as you could be and while not lake front, it had nice lake view. Many nice sites right on the lake however. We booked the day of our stay, so many where reserved for the up coming weekend.

Beautiful lake views. Some oddly shaped campsites.

Stayed here midweek in the summer.  Very happy I drove around first before reserving a site.  Not all sites are flat and some are very hard to drive into.  Many have very nice lake views, and some are totally private!

South Forty RV Resort & Campground

    Quiet Camping spot

Site A4 was pretty nice. Had enough space between my camper and the neighbors. The only downside was a utility hub somewhat in the middle of the site. The site itself was fairly level, had a brand new picnic table, and had a little gravel pad. Other sites closer to the pool were super close together. Luckily i only need 30amp and got a little more spacious site. The pool was nice but it was just missing the usual pool chairs to sun bath on. They had a few metal tables with chairs at each one. Minimal interactions with the staff. They seemed nice and respectful.

    Thousand Trails Lake Gaston

Been here before, love this TT campground

This is a thousand trails RV resort. the road to the campground is fine. The campground is an older one and bigger rigs will find it a bit of a challenge to get into areas, especially the area where there is just water and electric. That is another issue, most of the park is water and electric. Lucky for us we usually come into this park early in the season or latter.

There is an area near the lake that has pull thru sites with WES setups 200 to 323 ( some small cabins and tiny houses are included in this number set ), I believe there is 31 total, all 50 amp, 22 are pull thru.

The camp sites from #1 thru 174 are 30 and 50 amp setups and the area is tight to maneuver thru you are definitely going to work at getting bigger rigs in and also, leveling is a bit challenging in some spots. But 90% are in partial shaded areas making it a comfortable feel once settled in.

Our ATT and T-Mobile hotspots worked as did the cell service ok. Most of the amenities were closed as it was early in the season. I will say, the laundry is small for this big of a campground. They were also doing work on the office but that is supposed to be completed soon. All in all, the views of the Lake are spectacular and there is plenty to see and do during the peak season for families.

They have a separate dump station as well as a dumpster area as you first enter the park.

    Peaceful Camping

We really enjoyed how peaceful this campground is and everyone was friendly. The spots are a really nice size and the park has sweet donkeys and a duck pond to visit. The location is close to downtown Wilson that has a small town charm. Visit the Whirligig park that’s special to this location.

Bullocksville — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Camping Oasis with Fantastic Lake Views!

Tucked away in the lush, verdant forests north of Raleigh, here at Bullocksville Park, you’ll discover camping and cabin grounds that are just a short hike from the nearby Lake Kerr, but far enough away from any roadside noisy traffic.

This is a complete natural respite that is incredibly quiet(save the roar of noise from nature!). The grounds themselves are laid out superbly, from 3-4 independent campground sites(in fact, some are across the road from whence you arrived) with blended options for both RV’s and real campers who use tents.

There are a number of amenities and diversions, such as boat ramps for motored-boats, kayaking, canoeing, as well as playgrounds for the kiddos, a big gathering hall that can be rented, several picnic areas and shelters along with countless hiking trails. For anyone visiting North Carolina or for nearby residents who just want to get away from the concrete jungle, then Bullocksville Park is definitely worth a look.

I will end on this point - I have not come across any such amazing camping gem in all of North Carolina than this splendid campground at Bullocksville.  You'll be lucky (and hopefully very grateful) for getting a piece of land here in front of this gorgeous lake if you book well in advance.

    Happy Camping!

    Thousand Trails Lake Gaston

Had everything we needed plus a beautiful lake

We stayed here for a week while we were both working. It was our first time using our Thousand Trails membership and it was pretty fun! I don't think I've ever stayed at an RV resort like this where you have a lot of people who have pretty permanent type places. It seemed like people view their RVs here like their weekend cabin and they just leave them here and come and go.

The lake was beautiful and every morning we would take our chairs down by the lake to have our morning coffee and watch the mist and the fish. There was a little shop where we could get supplies, food, coffee, etc. We pretty much had the showers and bathrooms to ourselves since everyone has them in their RVs. Was also nice to do a load of laundry.

It was a lot of fun to walk around the campground and look at people's set ups (also a little eerie since very few people were there since the season was winding down) and a full loop of the campground was about 2/12 miles...not a bad walk!

    Problems abound

The front desk staff was helpful when calling for an after hour check-in and the maintance staff responded quickly to issues. But that is the end of the good.

    1. the restrooms and showers were disgusting and in ill-repair. I've used truck stop showers and restrooms all over the country. These were some of the worst facilities I've ever seen.
    2. late arrival and get situated only to find the breaker broken. Maintance moved us spots rather quickly though. Just exhausting to come to a stop for the night and have to deal with issues.
    3. spots were not level but were shaded. 4)NO signage and / or not visible at night.
    4. overpriced for gross amenities

    Will come back

Convenient to 95 during our drive to Florida. Office run well. Could use some updating. While we didn’t use pool or other amenities, we had a private shady spot up in the woods (C1). Will stay here again.

Kimball Point — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

    Awesome

This place is great and unlike anywhere I’ve been in VA/NC in terms of the lake. The water is crystal clear with sandy beaches. It’s beautiful. Campsites are massive with potable water at each, and almost all have a fantastic view of the lake and/or are on the lake. One downside is there is no store / firewood to buy, so you either have to find scraps there or buy some at Buchanan’s store (5-10 min drive) for $6/bundle. Do NOT bring your own firewood because you can easily spread invasive species and destroy this beautiful place. Id highly recommend to anyone.

    Great place

This is a very good place to camp. Beach on lake as well as a pool. Very quiet with many full time residents. Most spots reserved for the summer.

    Nice, quiet overnight stop

We are full time and were passing through and saw this on map. Friendly staff. Level sites with good size sites. Didn't venture out as temps dropped fast this day. Good stop for overnight. Also seems to have many who want to stay 4-5 months in this area. Has laundry, pool( closed for winter ). Will stop back someday.

    Thousand Trails Lake Gaston

    Beautiful! Scenic, Fun and Perfect!

Beautiful location with lots of varied sites. Some are more wooded, some have beautiful water views, all have water and electric, and some have sewage, pump out service is available. Fire wood delivery from Thumper is incredible. People are extremely nice, and we made lots of friends. A beautiful lake, perfect for fishing, tubing, wakeboarding… Has laundry, but machines weren’t great. I was a little worried about the first come/first serve site assignments, but it works out really well being able to choose your site. Highly recommend for singles, couples, and families with children. We brought our boat and the ramp is a bit steep, but the slips were great. Such a fun lake to explore.

    Lakeside Fun!

Great spot right on Lake Gaston. The little marina is awesome. Everyone is super helpful. There is a great snack bar & store.

We rented a cabin & although it was small, the kids had a blast.

    I highly recommend this spot.

    Lake Front or Quiet Woods

This was a fun and simple outing. Nestled in the countryside, a very small "Americana" vibing town down the road, boating on the lake, no frills or gimmicky glamping here. This is an RV park for nature lovers or just wanting to be away from hustle and bustle. Young kids may be bored if they do not like to ride their bikes or walk up and down steep streets but it is a nice place, overall. Take everything with you that you may need though. Not a lot of options for food and such to arrive and stock up. I would not be surprised if we go back at some point.
