Lake Gaston Americamps

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Reservations are available year-round at Lake Gaston Americamps, a full-hookup campground in Bracey, Virginia, where sites accommodate RVs up to 55 feet with electric, water, and sewer connections. Pull-through sites make it possible to arrive and leave without unhooking, a practical detail worth noting for travelers passing through on a longer route. The campground has a noticeable mix of long-term residents and overnight visitors, which shapes the overall atmosphere, and most sites are 30-amp, so campers with higher power needs should confirm availability when booking.

Tent sites sit directly on the water, giving anglers and families with kids direct access to Lake Gaston from their campsite. Fishing from the site itself is one of the most consistently mentioned draws in reviews. Staff deliver firewood to sites and pick up bagged trash, which reviewers across multiple visits have flagged as a genuine convenience. The campground also has a pool, mini-golf, and a playground, along with a small on-site store for last-minute supplies.

The bathhouse earns consistent praise for cleanliness, though its location requires a walk or drive from the tent area. Joseph H. notes the bath houses are "nice and clean but are definitely a decent uphill walk away." Tent sites sit at the base of a slope, so drainage can be an issue during rain, with water running downhill toward the picnic tables. Porta-potties are available closer to the tent area as a backup. Campers wanting a different setup on the same lake can compare notes with Thousand Trails Lake Gaston about 10 miles southeast.

Numerous guests pointed out friendly, helpful staff and quality facilities with clean bathhouses. Waterfront tent sites offer fishing access while RV sites provide good space, though leveling can be challenging.

Nice and relaxing

Overall a great place! I tent camped and it’s really nice being right on the water. Nice to fish right from your campsite. Staff is friendly and the store was nice for last minute things. Bath houses were nice and clean but are definitely a decent uphill walk away.

Clean, friendly

Went tent camping here. Employees are friendly and they have a small shop on site. Bathrooms were clean but had to drive to them from the tent sites. Luckily they have a set of porta potties closer to the sites for easy use. The tent only sites are on the water so the view is pretty, but not private. The picnic tables and fire rings are at the bottom of hill so when it rained, water ran down the hill and it became very muddy where we eat. My kids were able to play in the water and we could fish right from our site which was the best part. Another plus is they pick up trash right from your site.

Nice campground

We spent one night here on our way north. We arrived late and left early. Staff was great met us at the gate and escorted us to our site. Mostly long term renters. Site were a good size and we had a pull through site and never had to unhook the Jeep. Full hook ups.

Older campground

Older campground. Lots of permanent sites (mainly on one side of campground). Wooded. Pool, rec room. Staff is nice.

Be prepared to level your camper

1st time at Lake Gaston Americamps campground. The staff is awesome. Everyone was helpful, polite, friendly and made you feel welcomed. Need firewood, no problem. The fee is only $5 / bundle, which is below average for this area, and they will deliver it to your site. Have trash, simply place your bag by your site and they will pick it up. The bathhouse is very nice. Large showers, and clean. The swimming pool is great. Mini-golf, playground for the kids and lots of planned activities. Really enjoyed the stay here. Now for the complaints: most sites are 30 amp and are unlevel. Some are a challenge to get your unit level. That's it, the rest was all good.
