Best Campgrounds near Oak Island, NC

Myrtel Beach State Park The Myrtle Beach State Park has a nice Campground tucked away behind the beach. Some sites are a little further away, but still close enough to get to the beach by foot. Bath Houses are typical State Park style. Most of the sites are at a 90 degree angle to the road with makes it difficult to get into with a larger RV.

Lots and lots of trees. Need to drive very slowly to campsite. All sites sand based. Lots of trees on some of the camping sites one would need to navigate around. Our site was on a corner, level and easy to get into - 34 ft class A with toad. Lots of room to park our car. Sites have picnic table and fire ring. At first we were thinking “ we wouldn’t come back” as the park has a bit of a worn down, overgrown with trees, shrubbery look. However, we adjusted to that and decided it was a good stop.Lots and lots of dogs. We travel with a dog and lots of places, trails to walk. Off season so, our dog enjoyed a run on the beach everyday. It’s noisy during the day with planes flying over (nearby airport) &barking dogs. Especially over the weekend. Much quieter during the week. Fishing pier, two stores, easy walk from campground to beach. Full hookup sites. We would definitely come back.

I've been here at different times of the year. I really enjoy camping here in December and January. Less people and the park is so nice.

From checking in until packing up to leave, my three night stay was very pleasant and restful. I disperse camp usually, but having the advantage of a very well maintained bathhouse was super nice. I have friends in Wilmington and frequent this area. This Campground will be my go to location when I'm in town!

Barefoot RV Resort was so CLEAN! Like I mean immaculate. Has 2 pools (one for kids with a slide & lazy river and one more for adults/quieter activities). The pools are in opposite corners of the resort. Bathhouses were new and very clean- water pressure great. Our site was very well kept, easy to use with a grass patch, cement pad & paver fire pit. You are quite close to all your neighbors here, but that's to be expected in Myrtle Beach. Rent a golf cart from Salty's- they deliver it right to your campsite. This was a must have as we used it to get to the beach, shopping/bars in Barefoot Landing, food store and more. Staff were welcoming, informative, accessible & friendly. We would absolutely come back!

Nice pool and walking path around the edge of the sound.

This is a relaxing, natural campground. Many bird songs at sunrise and Whip poor will calls at sunset every night. We have dogs and there are nice places to walk along the pond, and grass areas all around the campground. The dog park is nice for some off leash time. The facilities are great with a store, laundry, and clean restrooms and showers. A very nice pool is available, but with Sunset beach, and Ocean Isle beach just minutes away we have gone there daily. I am fascinated by Bird Island that is a nature preserve and reachable from Sunset beach, this is a day trip we are looking forward to taking the dogs on. Calabash is another town we have visited and it is a gem. We didn’t expect to want anything but seafood but the Peruvian restaurants’ line out the door was intriguing and we ended up there for a late lunch and loved it. My partner is an avid fisherman and had a great day fishing on a Hurricane charter out of Calabash.

This is a spacious group camping area; You can rent some cabins and/or rent RV spots so if you have a mixed camping family, so came come in their rvs/trailers and others can rent a cabin and y'all will still be next to each other.  The park is on the smaller size but has a few hiking trails that are very nice.  It also has a trail that goes around Singletary lake!  The lake is awesome, great kayaking and fishing!  The area is just away from White lake and Elizabethtown to be secluded and private but close enough to get what you need from the Walmart or Food Lion in town!  There are also a decent number of "hometown" restaurants in town if you want to go out to eat!  Georgio's is awesome!

3 beautiful pools, a splash pad, lots of activities for kids, homemade ice cream, movie nights!, very clean bathrooms/showers, mini golf, restaurant on site, it’s wonderful!!

The first thing is that the sites were SUPER close together which kinda ruined the “camping vibes” if that makes sense because of how packed it was. I will say the site I stayed at was pushed back in a corner so that was nice. Over all it was a really nice stay + the water was really warm and enjoyable to swim in and there was a lot to do in Myrtle which also made it really fun.

Myrtle Beach State Park Campground is nice. Overall it is quiet and has clean grounds, restrooms and showers.

If you are a local resident you can get a nice discount. During winter months you can even ride horseback on the beach. (You need reservations) There are nice walking trails, a great fishing pier and a nice store in the campground and on the pier.

Overall Rating: 3 Usage during visit: 85% a few days before Thanksgiving. Site Privacy: Many sites have little to no privacy. Most of the best sites are along the perimeter. Our site, 155, is close to the beach access.

Rig size: Large rigs will fit in many sites. Sites: Circle 1 and 2 are pretty congested for the most part. The best chance of a good site is the perimeter sites. Among the best sites are: 188, 190, 191, 194, 196, 294 , 298, 302, 304, 307, 319, 323, 331*, 332333,334*, 336*.,237*, 240*, 241. I liked the sites near the beach access. They are not all great sites, but better than the congested area: 152,153, 154,155 (our site which was very nice), 73,64,16,17,18,19.

I’ve used this site a few times, very friendly employees and a nice short walk to the beach. Golf cart rentals available and a restaurant.

Absolutely 100% recommend this place. Store: It is one of my top three stores. Offer plenty of games, grocery, apparel, parts, and other stuff. Spaces: Have plenty of space between you and your neighbors. Roughly 2-3 trailer widths between on both sides. Every spot is concrete, pull through, fire pit, and picnic table. Environment: Very friendly!! The lake fun was closed but the puppy beach was not. But there was a hot tub, pool, and kiddie pool. Halloween Celebration: They had an arts a crafts event we did not attend because the kids wanted to swim. But trick or treating was awesome for the kids, adults, and puppies. We briefly went to the Halloween bash but hurried over to go on the haunted hay right through the forest. It was really well done! Bathhouse: There is one but I did not utilize it because I use my trailer. Reservations: Super easy! Military get 15% discount. You can reserve up to 400 days out. Half of it is due at time of reservation and the rest at arrival.

After hearing about the mosquito situation, I was worried, but have not seen one yet - October 9. We hiked a trail to see Venus flytraps in the wild. A short peddle to the ocean beach. Very nice sites.

Very overpriced! $100 for a dirt site covered in pine needles and roots making it impossible to level and no sewer. Cold showers, so far to all to everything and the pics for the dog park weren’t accurate at all.. so small I couldn’t even throw the ball for my dog. Check out is 10am so you don’t have much time to enjoy any of the amenities that morning. $140 a night for an RV pad! You can stay at an rv park in the area for half the price with hot showers and all the same amenities right on the beach. I do not recommend
