Decent owners

This is literally a grass lot across the bridge from oak island. While they met our needs (water, electric, sewer) the space they put us in was very tight. A little on the high side price wise. We were traveling with an f350 and a 36 ft bumper pull. You can’t fit both in the space allotted. Rules were not very clear (check in / check out) but since they weren’t clear and we were in need of either leaving early and hoping we can get on the road or letting our toddler take his mid day nap, they agreed and let us stay while he slept. Thankful they let us - even though no one came or went the longevity of our stay. All in all if you just want a place to park a camper, this will work. if you’re looking for a little more for your beach trip, don’t waste your time.

Great for RV camping, not for Tents

Oak Island is absolutely beautiful! It's close proximity to the ocean and magical trees covered in Spanish moss made up for the lackluster camping experience. This campground really shouldn't even offer tent sites. It's basically a gravel parking lot filled with a mix of RV's and tents. I was in a tent and ended up leaving after one night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a map of Oak Island Campground showing all campsites?

The campground does not appear to have a detailed public map showing individual campsites. To get a layout of the campground and specific site locations, it's recommended to contact Oak Island Campground directly. The campground is primarily a grass/gravel lot with sites arranged in a parking-lot style configuration. For planning purposes, reaching out to the campground office for current site availability and layout information is your best option.

What do reviews say about Oak Island Campground in NC?

Oak Island Campground offers a mixed camping experience. The area features beautiful surroundings with Spanish moss-covered trees and is conveniently close to the ocean, which adds to its appeal. However, the campground itself is essentially a gravel parking lot accommodating both RVs and tents, which can make for a less traditional camping experience. The location is a key highlight, allowing campers to enjoy Oak Island's natural beauty while having a base for exploration.

What RV accommodations are available at Oak Island Campground?

Oak Island Campground provides basic RV accommodations including water, electric, and sewer hookups. The RV sites are situated in a grass lot across the bridge from Oak Island. Space can be tight, especially for larger rigs - visitors with larger setups like a 36-foot bumper pull and F350 truck have noted challenges fitting both vehicles in the allotted space. The campground caters primarily to RVs, though the spaces may be somewhat close together. Pricing is reported to be on the higher side for the amenities provided.

Where is Oak Island Campground located in relation to Southport, NC?

Oak Island Campground is located across the bridge from Oak Island itself, in close proximity to Southport, NC. The campground sits on a grass lot in the coastal area near the ocean. While the exact distance to Southport isn't specified, the campground's location makes it a convenient base for exploring both Oak Island and Southport, which are connected by a short drive over the bridge. This strategic position allows campers to enjoy both the beach environment of Oak Island and the historic charm of Southport.
