    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Retreat at Fern Hill

    Clean, private, swimming!

Stayed here multiple times. Cabin is clean, large firepit, huge patio, great swimming pond with a slide. Cabin included many kitchen items as well as there being a full size freezer/fridge, tables and chairs on the patio. Pet Friendly but no fenced area.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Great campground

We stayed here three nights to ride out a heat wave and really liked it. Sites are electric only, with a dump station available at the entrance and one in the campground loop. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, where you awkwardly pull over to the side of the road and fill your tank. Sites are pretty much wide open, with zero separation between you and your neighbor. Most are out in direct sun but the ones along the edge have some tree cover and shade.

There are yurts here as well, and a playground, and a huge disc golf course. You can walk to the beach from the campground (dogs aren’t allowed on the beach). The nature center is right in the campground, by the basketball and tennis courts.

Showers were dirty and buggy, but they’re free and you can actually choose your own water temperature. NY State campgrounds require proof of rabies vaccinations for your dogs.

Good cell reception for Verizon, ATT wasn’t great but the cell booster helped. Trash bins, but no recycling. Beautiful sunset on the lake.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

Quaker Area — Allegany State Park State Park

    Quaker Area- Buffalo Cabin #8

We head out to Allegany State Park every year in late fall. The cabins are perfect for cooler temperatures and cozying up beside the wood stove. The table and chairs provided inside the cabin are perfect for eating on and prepping food.

The buffalo trail is perfect for a weekend getaway, with Cabin 8 far in the corner, providing lots of space between nearby cabins. It is also beside the river and provides a wonderful sound to fall asleep to.

Shower facilities are just down the road and were very clean! The bathroom facilities on the buffalo cabin loop are also equally clean and warm in the colder temperatures!

What to do

"Great campground, they have it all, a huge lake to swim in, a salt water pool, fitness center, well stocked store, small restaurant with finger foods," notes Frank N.

Hiking the trails: Darien Lakes State Park provides extensive hiking opportunities through wooded terrain. "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities," explains Leah W. at Darien Lakes State Park Campground.

Visit nearby attractions: For families wanting to mix cabin camping with amusement park fun, Six Flags Darien Lake Campground offers direct park access. "This is a large campground. Walking distance to the theme park. Campground fees include admission to the theme park. The sites are very nice and well maintained," writes Mary H.

What campers like

Quiet lakeside sites: Three Valley Resort offers more secluded cabin options than other nearby properties. "Nice low key campground. The sites do seem a little packed. There are cabins that are totally worth spending the money on. The pool is nice, they have a nice restaurant and cute peacocks," reports Kristine B.

Family-oriented amenities: Jellystone Park™ of Western New York cabins include access to extensive recreation facilities. "There is something for everyone at this campground. They made recent additions that are awesome. They added a new section of premium sites, they added a beach to their pond and allow swimming," shares Amy T.

Natural surroundings: Campers appreciate the mature forests at established cabin sites. "Enjoyed grassy areas and mature trees and small lake. Sites well spaced. Clean and well maintained. We were there on a weekday, told weekends are busy. Not buggy," notes Carol B. about her cabin stay at Darien Lakes State Park.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabins require booking well in advance, especially during summer months and holiday weekends. Weekend availability is particularly limited from June through August.

Site spacing varies: Cabin density differs significantly between properties. "The campground itself is pretty and well kept. Some sites are a little tight, but most people aren't there to camp, they're going to the park or a concert, or both," explains Cory W. about Six Flags Darien Lake Campground.

Seasonal operation: Most cabin facilities close between mid-October and early May. Three Valley Resort operates from April 15 to September 15 only, while Letchworth remains open year-round for winter cabin camping.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: HTR Niagara Campground provides multiple recreation options on-site. "Lots of activities at this park, staff is friendly, clean pools, facilities, zip line, boat rentals, spacious sites, and minutes from the falls!" reports Keri.

Bathroom considerations: Family-friendly cabin options with private bathrooms are limited but available. "The bathrooms were seriously nicer than most home bathrooms. Beautiful! Grounds were very well kept & staff friendly," shares Erin H. about HTR Niagara facilities.

Budget planning: Cabin stays at theme park-adjacent properties include park admission, potentially offsetting higher nightly rates. "This campground would be a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road," suggests Jeremy H. regarding Darien Lakes State Park as a cost-effective option.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: For larger RVs, premium cabin sites offer more spacious parking. "This a beautiful campground with very friendly staff. Our site was a level gravel back in site. The back in sites are very wide and roomy, the pull through sites are a little closer together," observes Michi P. at Colden Lakes Resort.

Noise considerations: Railroad proximity affects some cabin locations. "It was clean and we'll maintained. There was a train track close to camping," notes Donna M. about Six Flags Darien Lake cabins.

Utility connections: Electrical service varies between 30-amp and 50-amp. Many cabin sites offer full hookups for those bringing RVs alongside cabin rentals for larger groups.
