Best RV Parks & Resorts near South Wales, NY

Several RV parks accommodate travelers near South Wales. Jellystone Park of Western New York offers 229 sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, operating from May through mid-October. The park supports big rigs and provides water, sewer, and electric connections. Skyline RV Resort features spacious pull-through sites with 50-amp electrical service, water and sewer hookups, and gravel pads suitable for larger motorhomes. Southwoods RV Resort, open from May to October, maintains well-spaced sites with full hookups and big rig access. "Great campground, a little tight if you like to spread out. The map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight," noted one visitor about Skyline.

Reservations are essential during peak summer weekends and fall foliage season, with most parks requiring advance booking. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though some older campgrounds may have limited capacity during busy periods. Cell service varies throughout the region, with stronger coverage near major highways and spotty reception in more remote locations. Most parks welcome pets, though breed restrictions may apply at certain facilities. Winter camping options are extremely limited, as nearly all RV parks in the region close between late October and early May. Propane fill service is not commonly available on-site according to the amenity listings, requiring travelers to locate external sources in nearby communities.

    Evangola State Park Campground

Some Sites Have a View of Lake Erie

    Unfortunately, my site did not.

However, my site wasn't crowded and the electricity was reliable. This campground has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping. There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up.

Each site has a picnic table and a grill.

There are two bath houses. The newer one - between loops one and three - also has laundry facilities.

Your payment for your campsite entitles you to admission to the beach, which is a hike or a drive away.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Simple campground on Lake Ontario

We stayed here because it was near Niagara Falls and had site availability. We stayed at a non-electric campsite (mid-June). There were 4 other campsites occupied in our area. We have a camper van with solar power and fresh water. There is a shower in the non-electric section but it's not heated water. Since it's June, the temperature was only mildly shocking to my senses. However, the rest of the showers in the campground are heated (we checked). There are at least two laundry facilities. I actually exchanged cash for quarters at the front office. The grounds are well maintained. Beware of the resident skunk that walks around. I didn't test the cell signal here but I was able to work remotely and video chat.

    Cinderella Motel & Campsite

Basic, Convenient, VFM (value for money)

This campground is very basic with very close campsites.  The bathhouse and laundry are old but clean.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  It is very close to Niagara falls and for the money it is the best campground here.  KOA and Branches CGs are nicer but they are also triple the price which for us did not seem worth it.  We were in a back in gravel site that backed up to the motel which may not seem that nice but the electric, water and sewer worked perfectly.  Our 40 foot MH and Toad fit with room to spare.  There were sites that were on the outskirts of the property that backed to the woods which some people may prefer.  Those sites were just as close although there were several that would take big rigs bit don't expect to open your awnings in most sites.   There is a nice grassy area in the center with a small covered pavilion.   There are a few sites on the side/front of Motel.  We were here to visit Niagara Falls so location and a basic campground with full hookups was all we were looking for and this campground fit our needs perfectly.  We would stay here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

An old campsite that fits our needs

This is not a resort campground nor is it a campground built for escapism. It’s very close to Niagara Falls, the Rainbow Bridge (for driving into Canada), and Buffalo, NY.

Mike is very friendly; check in was easy. The sites are full hook up or w/e only. There are pull throughs and back-ins, 30amp and 50amp sites. Your site is assigned once you arrive. You pay a deposit when you book and pay the rest when you arrive.

They have Good Sam and weekly discounts and I was also given a cash/check discount. So our total was $51 a night for a week’s stay.

The sites toward the front are definitely more level and have better cell service, but the sites toward the back are better shaded. Cell service and wifi was enough for me to work during the week and stream at night.

The facilities could use some work. They are very old, and it’s hard to tell if they are clean or just old. Laundry is available - $2.50 a wash/$1.75 a dry.

Basically, don’t expect a beautiful vacation campground. I work full time remotely from the camper. I was able to work during the days and get to Niagara Falls, CAN, and Buffalo quickly after work. Even with the discount, which I’m thankful for, it is overpriced for what it is. But it served my needs, I felt safe, and the owner was friendly so 3 stars. With some TLC to the sites and the facilities, I’d give it 4.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

    Good location

This campground is open year around which is really hard to find in this area. We needed to come here for personal reasons before any other campground was opened. So far this isn’t bad could be better/ cleaner.

It is 50 amp full hook up with free Wi-Fi that doesn’t suck.

The site are paved level back ins and pull throughs

The staff was nice enough. Haven’t had much interaction with him.

There is a great Italian store right across the street and Niagara Falls down the road. I would stay here in a pinch again

Guide to South Wales

RV parks near South Wales, New York offer diverse accommodation options within the western region of the state. Most camping facilities operate seasonally with an average elevation of 1,000-1,200 feet, resulting in warm summers and cold winters that limit camping seasons. The area features rolling hills and farmland with campgrounds typically situated on cleared land adjacent to small ponds or wooded areas.

What to do

Water activities: Red Rock Ponds RV Resort provides fishing opportunities in their on-site pond. "Nice, smaller campground with adequate sites. Appears more for permanent campers," notes one visitor, highlighting the intimate setting for anglers seeking a quiet fishing spot.

Mini golf and games: Jellystone Park of Western New York offers free putt-putt golf for guests. "Put put was free. So many things to do with the kids. Heated pools. Beach was clean," says one camper. The park combines recreation with camping in a family-oriented setting.

Holiday celebrations: Special events make camping more festive during summer holidays. "We went on the 4th of July and they had amazing fireworks and activities galore for the kids," reports a Jellystone visitor, emphasizing the family-friendly atmosphere during peak summer weekends.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention bathroom cleanliness as a priority. "Bathrooms were very clean. Quiet campground. Lots of plays areas for kids," notes a visitor to Southwoods RV Resort, underscoring how maintenance impacts the camping experience.

Helpful staff: Personal attention from campground owners makes a difference. "Dylan & Tiffany are awesome! They are helpful caring and so nice! We stayed monthly and go to Florida for the winter and are coming back next year!" enthuses a seasonal camper at Southwoods RV Resort.

Location accessibility: Proximity to attractions draws many visitors. "We stayed at Southwoods while visiting the Rochester, NY area and exploring attractions in the area. The campground is about 20-25 miles from downtown Rochester and located in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland," explains one reviewer describing the convenient base camp location.

What you should know

Site spacing concerns: Several campgrounds feature closely spaced sites, especially during busy periods. At Skyline RV Resort, a visitor observed, "Great campground, a little tight if you like to spread out. The map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight."

Seasonal population: Many RV parks host long-term residents. "Small campground, primarily for permanent sites," notes a Red Rock Ponds visitor, indicating the community atmosphere common at parks in the region.

Weather limitations: The western New York climate creates a defined camping season from May through October. Maple Lane RV Park specifically operates "April 1 to October 31," with most area campgrounds following similar schedules due to harsh winter conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Family-oriented campgrounds provide scheduled programming. "Family friendly park, lots of activities, park hosts/owners are hands on and awesome," shares a visitor to Southwoods RV Resort, highlighting the value of organized recreation for children.

Recreation options: Multiple play areas keep children engaged during downtime. "Southwoods is a beautiful campground and accommodates campers of all ages. 2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball," lists one reviewer, showcasing the variety of amenities available.

Weekend timing: Expect different experiences depending on when you visit. One camper noted, "Weekend sites would be pretty tight together if they were fully booked," suggesting midweek stays might offer more space and tranquility.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on specific needs and preferences. At Maple Lane RV Park, a visitor reports, "We stayed here on 9/19 after spending the day hiking at Letchworth. Campground there was booked, and we preferred not to drive home. Got in around 6pm and got a nice site."

Utilities placement: Check hookup locations before confirming reservations. One experienced RVer at Southwoods shared, "All the utilities were placed appropriately so we didn't need any extensions. The water pressure and electric were good."

Road surface considerations: Interior campground roads vary across facilities. "Most of the roads in the park are paved with the exception of the pull-thru section in the front of the park (N12-N25) which is gravel. All campsite pads are gravel except for three long pull-thrus that are paved (M24-M26)," details a Southwoods visitor, providing valuable information for RV navigation.
