    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

    Canandaigua-Rochester KOA

    Camping near Canandaigua, New York

Campers exploring the Canandaigua area discover a delightful mix of lakeside retreats, wooded state parks, and family-friendly RV resorts. Just minutes from downtown, Canandaigua City Park Campground offers easy access to local shops and the lakefront beach, making it a convenient base for those who want town amenities within walking distance. A short drive farther out leads to Keuka Lake State Park Campground and the privately owned Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, both of which feature spacious sites, clean facilities, and excellent opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and fishing on the Finger Lakes. For those seeking a quieter experience, numerous backcountry and dispersed sites are tucked into the surrounding National Forest, where campers can truly unplug—though it’s essential to bring all necessary supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill and the Stay Bristol Woodlands campground blend rustic charm with modern comforts: well-maintained restrooms, picnic shelters, and on-site hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests and offer scenic overlooks, especially stunning during fall foliage season. Travel logistics are a breeze when visitors prearrange an airport shuttle from Rochester or Syracuse airports, ensuring a smooth transition from plane to campsite. And for adventurers mapping out multiple stops across the Finger Lakes or beyond, reliable multi-city transfers provide comfortable, door-to-door rides—no rental car necessary. With its blend of waterfront sites, wooded hideaways, and nearby attractions—wineries, waterfalls, and historic villages—the Canandaigua region truly has something for every type of camper. Whether pitching a tent under the stars or rolling in with an RV, visitors will find endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

Bluff Camping Area — Fair Haven Beach State Park

This haven is more than fair

Not too far from Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany. Sunsets are amazing. Sandy beach and hilly wooded park. Basic though recently renovated facilities with electricity at a lot of the tent sits. Get a site by the buffs if you have a tent that can take some serious wind (especially in fall). Avoid Drumlin loop, it’s sandier and smaller sites. They have cabins too. Favorite park in the area and they take good care of it.

    Sampson State Park Campground

    Historic Site

Right on the water front of Seneca Lake(a Finger lake in Central NY) It was a Naval training base during WWll. About 45 minutes from Rochester and about hr and half from Syracuse. It has a Naval museum with many authentic items from that era. Very shady and ample bathroom, shower, and water facilities. If you like wild life you may run into some animals that are indigenous to Central/Western NY. There are boating ramps and nice places to fish off a wall, plus a nice public beach fully staffed with life guards. A store and rec center is located at entrance area of camp ground as well as a big playground for the children

    Flint Creek Campgrounds

Great activities, friendly hosts, full hook ups!

Close to wine country you will find this gem of a family campground. Dog and kid friendly with activities such as wagon rides, arts and crafts, movie night and various themed weekend events. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming during our entire stay. An easy back in site with full hookups (B10) backed against a row of trees and a field that provided much entertainment of squirrels and birds. There is a camp store with very reasonable prices and accepts credit cards. Wood ($4) and ice ($2) are also for sale. There are two small cabins to rent along with a couple of family tent sites. The bathrooms/showers were clean near the camp store. Amenities include a pool, mini golf ($1/person), two playgrounds, horseshoes, a recreation center with games and movies, basketball and shuffle board. There are many seasonal campers at this campground, but all seemed friendly and welcoming as well. It truly seemed like one big happy family there.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

Guide to Rochester

Rochester's surrounding area offers diverse cabin camping options ranging from rustic to modern accommodations. Located in the western Finger Lakes region at approximately 500 feet above sea level, the area experiences distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F, ideal for cabin stays. Fall brings colorful foliage from mid-September through October when temperatures cool to 45-65°F.

What to do

Water activities at the Finger Lakes: Letchworth State Park Campground offers proximity to stunning waterways. "In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it's way through what locals call the Grand Canyon of the East," notes one visitor who found the natural features impressive.

Hiking trails: Webster Park features extensive trail networks through wooded areas. "We did a last minute reservation and ended up loving the place. There was good separation between the campsites and the bathrooms and showers were clean. Wasn't too far from a park along Ontario. Overall a great stay!" reports one satisfied hiker.

Fishing opportunities: Lake Bluff RV Park offers catch-and-release fishing in their pond. According to a visitor, "This is our favorite place! Not too far away clean! Friendly family owned! Pool, frog pond, catch and release fishing."

What campers like

Secluded campsites: Timberline Lake Park provides privacy between sites. "This is a great spot! It's really quiet and you can really feel like you're getting away out here," shares one camper who appreciated the peaceful atmosphere.

Family-friendly amenities: Conesus Lake Campground features numerous recreation options. A visitor explains, "They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf."

Clean facilities: Webster Park maintains high standards for bathrooms and shower facilities. A camper mentions, "We did a last minute reservation and ended up loving the place. There was good separation between the campsites and the bathrooms and showers were clean."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin sites require advance booking, particularly from May through October. At Big Guys Campground, visitors appreciate "spacious sites" that are "large and designed for family and friends to contact and enjoy."

Terrain considerations: Some campgrounds have significant elevation changes. At Conesus Lake Campground, "The campground was nice and clean, the staff was very friendly, and the pool was nice. Only complaint is nature. The hill is a killer! But that problem was solved by renting a golf cart!"

Seasonal operations: Most cabin facilities close during winter months. Lake Bluff RV Park operates from "April 15 to October 31," which is typical for the region, allowing campers to experience the peak warm-weather seasons.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Stay Bristol Woodlands offers multiple recreation options. "Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn't get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time," notes a visitor.

Playground access: Big Guys Campground features numerous children's activities. "There is so much to do at this camp! They have a jump pillow, pool arcade, movie room, RC track, and bingo for everyone," reports an enthusiastic family camper.

Kid-friendly cabin options: Timberline Lake Park offers affordable cabin accommodations suitable for families. A visitor comments, "Their little cabins are really cute and not too expensive too!" making them accessible options for families seeking cabin camping near Rochester.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabin accommodations, consider location within the campground. At Lake Bluff RV Park, a camper shares, "We had a huge site near a little stream, overall the campground isn't very big with lots of seasonsals."

Utilities and services: While cabins often have electric hookups, water and sewer connections vary significantly. At Conesus Lake Campground, "You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from."

Bathroom facilities: For cabins without private bathrooms, campground facilities become important. One visitor to Stay Bristol Woodlands appreciated that "Bathrooms clean and fully functional" while noting their site was "level and well equipped."
