Best RV Parks & Resorts near White Sands National Park

Several RV campgrounds near White Sands National Park provide varying levels of amenities for motorhome travelers. Hacienda RV Resort in Las Cruces features 113 sites with 50-amp electric hookups, water, and sewer connections on level concrete pads. Las Cruces KOA accommodates big rigs with full hookup sites, operates year-round, and includes cable TV with WiFi access. Sunny Acres RV Park offers spacious gravel sites for large rigs, though spacing between sites is minimal. Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, approximately 30 minutes from White Sands, provides partial hookups with water and electric but no sewer connections at individual sites. "Sites are level, but very close together. Lots of dust. This is the desert, so maybe expected," noted one visitor about Siesta RV Park.

Road access to most RV parks requires careful navigation, particularly for larger motorhomes. The Alamogordo/White Sands KOA, located about 20-25 minutes from White Sands National Park, provides pull-through sites with full hookups and allows pets. Several parks offer dump stations for those without individual sewer connections. Cell service varies by location, with most Las Cruces parks reporting good coverage for both Verizon and AT&T. Propane fill service is limited, with only El Paso Roadrunner RV Park specifically listing this amenity. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, reservations are strongly recommended during peak visitation periods, especially in spring and fall when temperatures are most comfortable. Most parks accommodate large rigs, though some state park campgrounds have length restrictions—a sign at Aguirre Spring warns that trailers over 23 feet are not recommended due to winding access roads.

    Dog Canyon

    Convenient and lots of options

This site was very convenient and close to town and not far from white sands national park. There were plenty of spots to choose from and fire pits already available! We loved waking up to the Mountain View’s

    Hacienda RV Resort

    Beautiful and relaxing

This is an RV resort, not to be confused either an RV park. Lots of large pull through sites, a few back in. Water, sewer, electric- 30/50 amp. WiFi, cable TV, patio with fireplace and hot tub. There used to be an exercise room, meeting rooms, copy & fax service, & laundry. The bathroom and showers are clean and nice. Plus, they have a dog wash area and one of the best dog run areas I’ve found at an RV park or resort! There is actually room for the dogs to run.

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park Campground

    Great location! Super clean

The campground is located in the Oliver Lee State Park, with access on paved roads. There is a dump and water fill station at the entrance. Many sites have electric and water. All have picnic tables, fire rings/grills, but no shade. The Comfort Station is well kept and clean, with running hot and cold water in showers and sinks. Toilets have running water. It’s very quiet in the night so you can enjoy the sound of night creatures. Sadly, although there is electricity at the sites, generators are run at times tearing up the silence and tranquility. Hiking trails are accessible from the campground, a strenuous treck into Dog Canyon and an easy Nature trail. The park is only twenty minutes from White Sands National Park. Great experience! I would come back here any time!

    Alamogordo / White Sands KOA

Great KOA. Four stars because of the wifi.

Well managed KOA and short driving distance from White Sands National Park and Lincoln National Forest. This KOA is in the city so there is some traffic noise and there is a train that passes through at night. They have sleds to borrow for White Sands which saves you the hassle and cost of getting a sled at the White Sands park. Wifi was unreliable, but cellular internet worked fine on our phones.

    Siesta RV Park

    Needs a refreshing

This is a small RV park just west of ElPaso. It’s older and could use some maintenance. Sites are level, but very close to. Lots of dust. (This is the desert , so maybe expected) 30/50 amp, water & sewer. Free WiFi and Cable TV No dog park. No pool There is a convenience store and grocery store.

    Boot Hill RV Resort

    Convenient Location

We were able to get in last minute for a two night stay.  We stayed in Site 604.  Pull through, level spot.  Very close to neighbor RVs.  But, nice and quiet.  Dogs enjoyed the fenced dog park (although gravel). Full Hookups.

Location great for White Sands National Park, Cloudcroft, NM (Brewery up there at 9000 ft) and Las Cruces, NM.

The Camp @ Cloudcroft RV Park

    Excellent

This place is a hidden treasure. Located at about 6500 feet elevation on the eastern slope of the Sacramento Mountains this campground is a perfect launching pad for daytrips to many local attractions. The Rio Penasco River runs right through the park and offers the opportunity to catch a trout or 2. Local Mule deer and turkeys are no strangers here and visit frequently. The WiFi is good but cell signal is hard to come by. There is a nice Cafe in Mayhill, as well as a convenience store and gas station about 2 blocks from the campground. The campground is open year round and caters to hunters in the Fall. The campground is family friendly and offers live music at times during the summer months. The managers Bennie and Yolanda are top notch and always at your service. That being said my wife and I came here last November and have been here ever since as Camp Hosts. We just love it here.

    Silver Campground

    Love this campground!

Beautiful scenery with huge tall trees. Site was spacious with fire rings and picnic table. Lots of hiking trails. Dump station and potable water fill area, but not at site. Dry camping only. $5 showers. Didn’t take reservations, but do have overflow area that is a huge parking lot. It could take a lot of “overflow”. There was still snow on the ground in mid April. No AT&T coverage, but Sprint worked. There were some steep grades getting there with tight turns. Fine for our Class B, but a big rig would probably be sweating. Concrete and grass RV pad. We used site 21 and backed up to the woods. Very cool. Bear country too, but didn’t see any

    Hacienda RV Resort

    Hacienda RV Resort, NM

Located in Las Cruces New Mexico, Hacienda RV resort is conveniently situated right off of interstate 10. Their main office is closed currently due to COVID precautions, but they are still very accommodating. The sites are small, but have everything you need with level concrete pads and full hook ups. They have a large laundry room. Make sure you use the ones closest to the door (on the right) because they are newer and don’t leave your clothes soaking wet. The dog park is large and has several entrances- it also provides waste bags and a garbage can, which is a plus. The bathrooms are private and include a toilet and shower- clean!!

Guide to White Sands National Park

RV parks near White Sands, New Mexico offer camping options with varying terrain conditions across elevations ranging from 3,900 to 4,600 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, making late fall through early spring the most comfortable camping seasons. Cell service varies significantly between Las Cruces and the more remote areas closer to the national park.

What to do

Desert wildlife viewing: Las Cruces KOA provides a central location for wildlife enthusiasts. "We watched a gray fox during day that was nearby (did not come very close to campground)," notes one visitor at Hacienda RV Resort.

Visit nearby towns: The historic district of La Mesilla offers cultural attractions within walking distance of some campgrounds. "It was close enough for a walk into town - sidewalks the whole way," reports a camper at Hacienda RV Resort.

Day trips to White Sands: Most campgrounds require a 30-45 minute drive to reach the national park. "We took extra day to visit white sands and experience some New Mexico Mexican food at Andele Restaurant," shares a reviewer at Sunny Acres RV Park.

What campers like

Mountain views: Many campers appreciate the panoramic landscapes visible from their sites. "We loved the views overlooking the city and mountains—especially at night with the lights," reports a visitor at Las Cruces KOA.

Pet amenities: Dog-friendly facilities rank high on camper satisfaction. "They have a large laundry room. The dog park is large and has several entrances- it also provides waste bags and a garbage can, which is a plus," notes a Hacienda RV Resort guest.

Clean facilities: Bathrooms and shower quality varies between parks. "The bathrooms are private and include a toilet and shower- clean!!" mentions one camper. Another notes, "The showers have a step so water can stay inside shower stall, there is a handicapped shower."

What you should know

Summer heat strategies: Temperatures regularly exceed 100°F June through August. "Might be a bit nicer in cooler weather----just way too hot to do much around grounds (BBQ, cornhole, spa)," advises a visitor at Hacienda RV Resort.

Water pressure concerns: Several parks have unusually high water pressure. "Water pressure is high so use a reducer," warns a camper. This can damage RV plumbing systems without proper equipment.

Security considerations: Some areas require additional precautions. A camper at El Paso Roadrunner RV Park reports staff "cautioned us that there have been some bike thefts in area and let us know that if we wanted, we could keep bikes inside their office at no charge."

Dust management: The desert environment affects all camping areas. "Lots of dust. (This is the desert, so maybe expected)," explains a camper about typical conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Indoor recreation options: For extreme weather days, look for parks with indoor facilities. "There is a clubhouse with kitchen, game and DVD library, billiards, ping pong table, pickle ball and croquet," notes a visitor at Sunny Acres RV Park.

Swimming access: Only select parks offer swimming facilities. "The kids enjoyed cornhole, basketball, tetherball, and the playground," shares a camper at Las Cruces KOA, while another mentions, "Mission RV Park has an indoor pool and hot tub that are open until 8pm!"

Age restrictions: Some parks have specific age policies. "This 55+ park is in town so close to shopping. Good view of Organ Mountains... Even though this is 55+ children and grandchildren are welcome," clarifies a Sunny Acres RV Park visitor.

Tips from RVers

Road access caution: Approach routes can be challenging. "Pay attention when pulling out on the main road near the office. We almost got hit by an oncoming vehicle turning left when departing the RV park. There's a curve, and the locals drive this shortcut road well over the speed limit," warns a visitor at Fort Bliss RV Park.

Site selection strategy: Location within parks affects experience. "Only one thing that maybe helpful for some. There is an RV repair shop on site and a RV store. If passing through and you needed some service, I would definitely check this place out," notes a camper at El Paso Roadrunner RV Park.

After-hours arrival: Check park policies for late check-in. "I arrive late. It was awesome. They had a reservation box. You just go in the box. Look for your name pull out the paper gives you all the information you need," shares a Hacienda RV Resort guest.
