Truly amazing people !
I booked a stay during a New Mexico snow/ice storm!! I went past the farm by a couple blocks and couldn’t get turned around or backed up. The wife opted to have her husband come get me into place. The farm is full of animals with a beautiful view and great rates. In addition it’s an EQUINE SAFE HAVEN. So if you ever come to visit please leave a little extra cash, They’re doing Gods work here and it truly a blessing to see.

This is open BLM land. When you turn off Highway 61, you go through a gate. There are multiple pull-outs along the road. Great views, desert terrain. I have good cell service, and my home fi hot spot is working great.

Hacienda RV Resort
Unimpressed👎🏼
This campground was a Huge disappointment for us. I planned and made reservations last August for Thanksgiving 2024. We are retired military and wanted to spend the holiday close to El Paso, TX.
Looking forward to our holiday reservation , we arrived @ Hacienda to find out that the campground had (without notice) moved us to a site in the back of the park with No picnic table, & No fire ring. The explanation we were given was that it was an “emergency.” We were also advised that we could have paid an extra fee to “keep” our reservation, but that we didn’t do that when we made our reservations. To their credit, they did reimburse us for one free night stay.
HOWEVER…….people make reservations for a reason and because Hacienda made this unwanted change without our knowledge or consent, our Thanksgiving was unmemorable.I feel that campgrounds such as Hacienda who want an extra fee to “hold” a reserved site certainly take their patrons for granted. If we ever return to the southwest, we won’t stay @ Hacienda. We should have and will stay at the Ft. Bliss RV Park instead.

Desert Cove is actually a campground and also dispersed camping area
This is a very nicely spaced campground. Can't really see the water from here but the sites have water and electric. The bathroom was being worked on so not open during the visit and the water level is at like 5 % capacity but there are lots of places to walk and bike and camping here in the winter provides very livable temperatures.

Appaloosa Area — Caballo Lake State Park
Flat spots with hook ups
This is a pretty normal lake campground. Not a lot of shade or privacy but picnic tables and covered outdoor spaces. There are bathrooms close by and they seem fine. Quiet during the off season and nice hiking trails.

These spots are great
If it were to stay here again, I'd stay in this campground as the layout is a lot nicer and more private. This campground is full and none of the others are right now. Nice walking trails and spots with some privacy and full hook ups.

Percha Flats Camping Area - Caballo Reservoir — Caballo Lake State Park
This is a dispersed camping area
You can camp right up next to the lake if you want. This appeals to certain campers. No services and you are literally just parking. I'm not sure what the above review is on about, this would be just like camping near any other lake in NM.

Riverside Campground — Caballo Lake State Park
Very nice
Caballo is kind of hidden between Percha and Elephant Butte but has lots of places to camp and is well maintained. This has a nice paved road leading to it, tons of spots where you can have privacy and trees. During the spring, it would keep you out of the wind.

Not as nice as in the past.
I stayed here in 2018 and the trees didn't look very good. They must have had to remove a lot of them and the spots are now in the sun. Very hot and dry most of the year and the river doesn't run most of the year either. Stickers everywhere and the trails are not well maintained.

I had hiked here before but staying was nice. Quiet and somewhat off spaces but very well maintained. Do not expect any privacy in spots.

This is the most exposed of the campgrounds to the road. Nice and close to get to a picnic table but I'd stay at one of the others before staying here.

Awesome RV park!
Rv park is great. Mostly everyone is a resident. There are a few nightly spots. The residents and owner have lots of community pot lucks. Common room, laundry and showers are all available at the main building. Plus plenty of space to store your RV, Boat or whatever youbwant to store. You bring they store it! There are many different types of camping. Full hookups down dry dry camping. The owners are super cool. It's a really nice place to live.

Quail Run — Elephant Butte Lake State Park
EB St Pk is great, More sheltered area
I love the Elephant Butte State Park and have stayed around 4 times. February 2024 I spent a week there in my small travel trailer. It can be quite windy in Feb/Mar so before booking I called the park office ans asked which campground might be more wind sheltered. They suggested Quail Run so that is what I booked. It was more out of the wind and a very nice, less exposed area. /bear in mind, the excellent prices are ending for 2025 and will be considerably more. I plan to spend a few days there in Dec before the prices go up.

We stopped here for an unplanned overnight. It is ok. Friendly staff. Clean but dated bathrooms. Took 5 minutes to get hot water in the women’s shower and the water stream was very small. No space between rigs. Lots of people driving out late and early. Think some folks must live here and be heading off to work. Big clubhouse area with a library. Also indoor pool. Didn’t use these facilities. There is a laundry but we did not check it out. Reasonable price but we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

5-star city light view!
We usually opt more for National Forests and Parks, but this was a great stop after a fabulous but more rustic experience camping at Chiricahua National Monument. This place has been updated and has more amenities than I’ve ever seen at an RV park including a dog bath! The bathrooms are updated and clean. Our view site was great and more spacious than the pull through ones. No one was to our right, so our site felt extra spacious. Staff were kind and helpful. Very clean and quiet park. I’d stay here again.

Rockhound State Park Campground
Great State Park
This is the second time we have spent a night here. The park is just a little out of town but upon a hill with amazing views. The campsites are mostly level and have water and electric and the showers and bathrooms were quite clean. Nice hiking in the area. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop where there’s some interesting information about the history of the area. All the camp hosts we’ve come in contact have been super friendly. you do have to make reservations online through reserve America. Very popular place in the fall and winter.

Great New Mexico Stop
We stopped on either end of our trip to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. It was a great midway point from home. We stayed in a patio site. The site was spacious and level. A fire pit with chairs, a propane grill, and table with 4 chairs was provided. The kids enjoyed cornhole, basketball, tetherball, and the playground. The store was well stocked. I only wish more local products were sold. Many of the items that appeared to be made by Native Americans were actually imported from overseas. We also wish the community room had board games or movies to check out. The coffee and pastries was a great touch! We will definitely be back to explore the area more. Employees were friendly and kind. A great place to stay!

Ok RV PRk. No showers or rest rooms, Needs a serious upgrade. Owner is nice. Lots of permanent trailers. Goat heads are everywhere, along with lots if weeds.

Fun place especially for kids
Our grandsons loved this place. We went without reservations so there was no open place but they allow the overflow to camp in the group sites if they are empty.
You can spend hours exploring all the rocks.
With reservations you can get a spot with power but they are closer together. We were very happy with the great place we had. Would love to go again.

South Monticello — Elephant Butte Lake State Park
Beautiful and quiet.
Great campground. Good size spots with good distance between sites. Ramadas at each site provide precious shade. Lots of trash bins nearby. Long flat trail (bike/walk) starts at the campground. Note that is has a boat launch except there’s no more water in this area.

Primitive site just outside state park campground
Great flat spot with great views. It’s inside the Elephant Butte lake state park, but seems to be a dispersed site. No one around. No amenities. There is a vault toilet maybe a half mile away. There are pay stations around. We had paid for a site on south Monticello campground but came here instead.
