Great State Park

This is the second time we have spent a night here. The park is just a little out of town but upon a hill with amazing views. The campsites are mostly level and have water and electric and the showers and bathrooms were quite clean. Nice hiking in the area. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop where there’s some interesting information about the history of the area. All the camp hosts we’ve come in contact have been super friendly. you do have to make reservations online through reserve America. Very popular place in the fall and winter.

Nice Place

Another really nice place in New Mexico. Near enough to the freeway, but far enough to not notice it. Near enough to town for a quick bite out or supplies, but far enough to not be bothered by it. Quiet and peaceful with good trails for walking the dogs.

Facilities: Hot water, free showers, flush toilets, soap, dump station, not much more you need

Cell Service: Good enough Verizon and T-mobile to work remotely

Starlink: While we didn't need to use it, all sites are open to the sky if you needed to

Solar: All sites are open to the sky for good solar

Rockhound SP, NM: If you like to hunt for rocks, or just be away from everything, this is a good place. Mountains are unique. Can’t get tired of looking at them. Only one trail here. Some nearby. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

Nice and easy to get there

RSP is a nice state park. It’s quiet, the area is clean, and the hosts were great. If I were to do it again I would stay at a non electric site. They are closer to the mountains and more separated. For me the electric sites are too close with not enough screening between them.

No complaints about this location. Large sites, easy access, paved road right up to the entrance. Native garden to familiarize yourself with the plant types. Will definitely come back when we can stay longer.

Best campground to relax and shower after an adventure day

Spent the day at White Sands National Park dune sledding. Needing to make a loop back home(WA state)and finding a place to shower, this checked all the boxes. Pulled up to the site just before sunset, and fell in love. Very well designed state park, spaces out sites, beautiful views, potable water, showers, this place has it all. Also, the camp host Robert is super helpful. We now refer to him as Grandpa Robert.

Incredible views

This campground is a real gem. The sites are HUGE and the views to die for. The town of Deming is 10 miles away, with anything you’d need, but the feel of the campground is remote.

What a Gem!

This state park campground has a gorgeous setting and great layout. Sites are generously spaces, each one has a shelter and picnic table. Bathrooms are nice, with showers. There's a really nice group site with large covered area. Nice visitors center and small gift shop. A big bonus is that the area is well known for geode, which you are allowed to collect in small amounts of you find them among all the rocks. Great billing talks and superb views of the Florida Mountains. One loop of electric and water suites, one loop of non electric sites, plus a day use area. Camp hosts were really friendly.

Totally Underrated

This feels like a hidden gem. I’d never heard of this park and the photos I found online seemed very underwhelming. We only topped for one night on our way to Arizona, and we were so surprised at how beautiful this place is! Views of the mountains surrounding the campgrounds, lots of beautiful native plants. The grounds are well kept and landscaped so you can stay on the path and avoid the rattlesnakes. The campground hosts were very sweet, friendly, and helpful. We will definitely come back here.

Beautiful Campground

Rockhound is one of the best State Parks we’ve ever stayed at. The sites are spacious and really well-kept. The bathroom is spotless. Showers were closed when we were there, due to Covid, but where in the same building as the bathroom and seemed very nice. This park has lovely little walking paths throughout and hiking trails for rock gathering. There are rattlesnakes in the area, though we didn’t see any and were told they don’t show up much in the campground. The park hosts were lovely, and the group campsite looked awesome! We would love to camp here again!

Peaceful and small

It is hard to get an electric site here with a reservation. Boondock for a day and quickly move over to an unreserved electric site once someone leaves. Fun hiking on a volcanic mountain. You can find geodes and thunder eggs. Clean bathrooms. Excellent wifi (verizon and at&t) with booster. No limit on # of pets. Close to Mexico for dental care and shopping.

Breathtaking night skies

We've stopped several times at Rockhound, generally for just one night en route to or from someplace else. The bath house is wonderful if you don't have a bathroom in your rig. There are electrical hookups at many of the sites, if you want to run AC, but these are often booked up by reservation people. There's usually room in the non-hook up section. A major attraction for us is the night skies, which are absolutely spectacular. There's also a nice view of the Deming city lights from up on the hill. A nice clean campground.

Small campground with little to do

Small campground, maybe 20 spots. Open space campground and hot. No trees or shade. Campground is clean with really nice bathrooms that have showers. Not much to do other than look for rocks, and only 1 small hiking trail.

Clean campground, fun rockhounding

Campground is clean with excellent bathroom facilities. Very few campsites. Fun place to rockhound. Nothing else really around the area. Two small hiking trails with a small view. They sell firewood there you can buy. Not sure what you would do if you stayed more than 2 days. Good night sky.
