    Comfort Well Dispersed Camping

    Low-key dispersed sites

A handful of sites located on the other side of Skates Canyon from Sapillo Campground. Close to great hiking around the CDT and fishing in Lake Roberts. Most of the sites sit on the shades of ponderosa and there's plenty of space for group camping.

This is as bare as it gets. No services, no cell signal, no trash disposal, not even a pit toilet. Some sites have rock rings for campfires but that's about it. Please recreate responsibly and leave no trace. Pack out whatever you pack in.

Quiet during the winter, but gets busy during the summer as evidenced by how well worn the dirt paths around the area are.

Truth or Consequences Camp on Rio Grande

    Free riverside camping

Free camping (14 days) on the riverside! Amazing. Perfect for van life. Space for big rigs too but only a couple big turnaround spots so just be strategic about it.

Dispersed Camping off Corralitos Rd on I-10

    Dirt area off the highway

This area is about 20 minutes west of Las Cruces. It's directly off the highway and is a gravel/dirt area. There aren't really any sites, more just areas to pull a vehicle through. Large enough for any kind of camper (RV, Trailers, ect). You could also tent camp if you wanted.

This area was nice to stop for the night because I was getting tired. Lots of highway noise, and the area is a bit trashy. For a stop to rest and eat, it worked perfectly. There is a gas station nearby, but the area is dispersed, so there are no services. Verizon service was good.

If you want a free site that you can spend a few days at, there are some great dispersed campgrounds on the east side of Las Cruces. They have hiking trails nearby at the Orange Mountains.

    Monticello Road Dispersed Camping

    Great Over Night stop

This spot is right off the freeway. The coordinates for the Dyrt location will take you down the road about 1 1/2 miles to a great site but unfortunately it was already occupied. There was plenty of room for us to but we decided to just head back to the start of the dirt road and camp there. When you arrive there are 2 large spots on either side of the road. They are level and easy to get in and out of. If you go farther the road is gravel but we took our 35 foot trailer with no problems. It has some dips here and there but nothing we felt unsure about traveling over. Maps does say that 9 miles down this road is a public campground, but it would be slow going and after the last dispersed site we saw the road did get rougher. There are no trees but cell service was good. Without light pollution the night sky goes on forever! We were not bothered by the freeway noise at all. It was a great overnight spot for the weary traveler. It would be easy to find should it be dark when you arrive as long as you take one of the first sites you come upon.

    Monticello Road Dispersed Camping

    Great for overnight off I-25

We stayed for a night on a road trip and was just what we were looking for. Lots are spaced out, even, and easy to access. Others commented that the road had potholes but that wasn’t our experience (maybe further in that’s the case-we didn’t explore much). Excellent sunrise and sunset views, no noise from interstate. No amenities but there were fire pits.

Dispersed Camping off Corralitos Rd on I-10

    Dead animals everywhere

In the chill of November 2023, I found myself drawn to the desolate expanse of Dispersed Camping off Corralitos Rd on I-10, near Las Cruces, New Mexico. There, amidst the haunting shadows of dead horses scattered like forgotten relics, I lingered for a mere half-hour. This eerie spot, shrouded in mystery and decay, whispered secrets of forgotten tales amid the howling winds. A grim reminder of life's fragility, nestled just off the beaten path, where the line between the living and the dead blurs into obscurity.

    BLM Near City of Rocks

    Open BLM land

This is open BLM land. When you turn off Highway 61, you go through a gate. There are multiple pull-outs along the road. Great views, desert terrain. I have good cell service, and my home fi hot spot is working great.

    Monticello Road Dispersed Camping

    Roadside overnight spot

This spot is right off I25. Easy access on and off freeway. We ended up taking a spot as soon as you start down the gravel road since the coordinates for the spot on the dyrt was already taken. There are about 5 spots as you travel the 1 1/2 mile down the road. The road will take you down to the state campground about 9 miles but the road does get rougher the farther you go so we decided to turn around and take the spot close to the freeway. The cell coverage is good here and our spot was large and level. The night sky is gorgeous. Not much to do here so perfect for an overnight stop. We could hear the freeway but it didn’t keep us awake.
