Within Toiyabe National Forest, McWilliams Campground sits at approximately 8,500 feet elevation in Lee Canyon, providing a forested alternative to Nevada's desert landscape. The US Forest Service manages this established campground year-round, with paved roads leading to sites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and BBQ grills. Sites numbered 66 and above occupy what was once a separate campground area, offering more space than the lower-numbered spots.
The campground maintains clean facilities and attracts campers escaping Las Vegas heat during warmer months. Reviewers consistently mention the well-maintained grounds and quiet atmosphere. Les W. noted the campground was "super clean and very quite" during an October visit when temperatures dropped to 29 degrees overnight. The elevation provides cooler conditions compared to the valley below, with conifer trees creating a different environment from typical southern Nevada terrain.
Standard amenities include vault toilets, trash service, and ADA accessibility. Pets are welcome throughout the campground, and alcohol is permitted. Both drive-in and walk-in access options accommodate different camping preferences. Ashley P. described the sites as "quite large" and appreciated being "up in the trees" as a change from desert surroundings.
Nearby Toiyabe National Forest Dolomite Campground provides an alternative just 0.1 miles away for campers wanting different site configurations.
