    Thousand Hills State Park Campground

    Great Hiking and Relaxation Destination

There are tons of things to do during any stay at Thousands Hills (affectionately called Thousand Chills). There are kayaks and canoes to rent, lakeside shelters, plenty of trails to hike, and plenty of campgrounds. There are areas that have cabins and also places that have RV hookups. Really great for anybody!

I went after a rain and it was beautiful. Many of the trails absorb water well and it's not too muddy. The trails and campsites are dog friendly and are very well marked.

    Pershing State Park Campground

Stay away from Pershing, go to Long Branch instead!

When I stayed at Pershing it felt like an RV park. There were very few tent sites and the bathrooms were not very clean. There is a bad odor coming from the pit toilets like they have not been pumped all summer, the odor permeated through the back part of the campground.

It does have showers and an amphitheater with a few trails and some play ground equipment. On a positive note the grounds were mowed and clean.

Honestly, Long Branch State Park is 40 miles away and is a 5 star park.

    Long Branch State Park Campground

Long Branch State Park has something for everyone!!!

Long Branch State Park is amazing. It is clean, modern, and all of the amenities of an RV Park. Sounds great if you like to RV or haul a camper, but this park is awesome if you prefer less amenities and like to camp in your tent. For Tent campers there are walk-in campsites that let you pitch your tent right near the beach.

If you have your own boat or prefer a kayak or canoe the lake is big and beautiful. You can even rent kayaks and canoes at the park. They have ice cream and fun for everyone. I interviewed the camp host, Nelma, she had a great one minute video telling all about the park.

    Lake Showme Campsites

    Nice spot, lots of activity

Great spot, $20 for RVs and campers. Free if primitive camping. All spots have power and water. Waste and sewage dump can be found on campgrounds. One showering station on grounds. Bathrooms within walking distance. Even have a pistol and rifle range. Bathrooms could be cleaned more, but only complaint.

    Honey Creek State Park Campground

    North loop review

We camped in spot #20 of the north loop. I would not recommend any spot in the center second of the loop. It was more like parking than camping. If we parked in the direction to utilize the full hookups we would have had our awning out over our neighbors campsite.
The state park has some nice trails for hiking. Use bug spray because the ticks are bad. Some nice views of the lake

    Pershing State Park Campground

    A favorite!

As with all things ratings are subjective to the whims and mindset of the reviewer. That having been said this park meets my criteria as a wonderful park. Having stayed many times, the park often has fewer than five campers. No, there are not water or sewer hookups and only 30 amp electric service, but the showers are immaculate and the pads mostly level and hard surfaced, surrounded by a bounty of shade. The pileated and red headed woodpeckers are in abundance and the trails including a long boardwalk make for interesting walks. The setting is a oak/hickory forest. I hate to give this review for fear of others coming for the experience but great things should be shared.

    Thousand Hills State Park Campground

Large Sites, and a great lake

Located just outside Kirksville, this hidden gem has a large lake with boat rentals. The campground is well maintained. Thousand hills also has a variety of trail lengths, giving options to the inexperienced and the backpacking adventurers.

    Long Branch State Park Campground

    Great camping

This campground is very nice and offers lots of options, including two different types of electrical sites, basic sites, and walk-in basic sites, they do also have a number of family sites. They offer s firewood vending machine and ice for sale by the camp host. The marina is very nicely set up for handicapped accessible fishing from the fishing dock. Unfortunately the marina store was not open when we visited. We were too early in the year. The swimming beach looks very nice, although it was too cold to use when we were there. Some of the camping sites are more tent friendly than others. Some of them look like it would only be good if you were in a pop-up or a trailer.

    Waubonsie Trail Park

    Iowa Gem!

Cute little RV/tent campground. Very nice hosts. Only stayed 1 night. Definitely on the 'let's go back' list. Waubonsie trail behind park is a short hike to the covered bridge and Dutchman's Store. Perfect Way to stretch your legs after a long day on the road. Bathrooms and showers were exceptionally clean. Horseshoe pit, playground and campfire swing area were nice surprises. All for under $20 for electric RV site! Great campground for a small group event.

    Thousand Hills State Park Campground

    A great getaway

I’ve camped here in a tent as well as a travel trailer and it’s great either way! Nice camping spots, generally a very quiet campground. The campsites are a bit of a hike from the lake but there is lots to do when you get there. Paddle boats, a beach, several playgrounds for kids, fishing, a marina and a great restaurant. There are several different trails you can hike or bike.
A great and affordable place to stay in north Missouri.

    Lacey-Keosauqua State Park

    Lacey-Keosauqua State Park - My 2 cents

Lacey-Keosaqua State Park is a gem located in Southeast Iowa in Van Buren County. It is off the beaten path but it is one of oldest Iowa State Parks. The Park and campground are well maintained and clean. We visited over Labor Day weekend and the park was only two-thirds full. It was a variety of Tent campers and RV's. The camp sites are spaced really well so you don't feel like you are on top of one another. They have electric and non-electric sites and the shower is very clean. There are almost 80 sites in the campground.

Don't miss the hiking trails and the Beach House and swimming lake. Don't miss lake Sugema, the Indian Mounds or the Ely Ford Mormon Trail crossing.

    Long Branch State Park Campground

    Fantastic state park

Long branch SP located in north central Missouri is a fantastic state park. The campground is well situated on the banks of long branch lake. The walk in sites are 50 feet from the lake and are level. The park has a swimming beach along with boat ramps and as we were told great fishing. The majority of the camp sites have lake views and are far enough from the highway that it is quiet at night. There are several hiking trails, from a prairie hike to a forest hike. The facilities are updated and clean. Talking with the park ranger, this park does fill on up quickly and reservation are recommended.

    Lacey Keosauqua State Park

Stayed for a week in mid November. Although we had a storm at the beginning and end the overall stay was great. Weather ranged from 50s to 70s during the day and 30s to 40s at night. There were only 4 other sites occupied with a few ins and out during the week. I could see the spring and summer months getting busy with lake use. Trails were well maintained and tended even late into the season. My pups and I loved walking the lake loop (2.1miles) every day. Bonus: the deer came out each evening to forage.

Like A State Park but free

This is my favorite free camp ground. No showers or electric sites, however, the grounds are well kept, its quiet and has an awsome lake. Picknick table and fire ring at each site on lower loop. First come-first serve.

    What a Gem!

I love this campground! Nicely spaced sites, some in the sun, the bulk are in the trees, which would be lovely in the summer. Beautiful lake. Plenty of sites on the water. Nice playground. Kind host. Fabulous showers! Lots of hot water. Very clean bathhouse. Plenty of trails to explore and roads to ride my bicycle on. $19/ night for basic electric in November. Good wifi.

    A quick sleepover

Pulled in about 7:30pm seemed like 10, it was so dark. Lol

Had called about 3 hrs earlier and they were full, except for a family site, thankfully we were traveling with a second trailer.

Pulled up to the office and the sweetest kindest man greeted us. He was expecting us. ❤️

Paid the 40 something dollars and he hoped in his golf cart and lead us to the site.

Morning time revealed the beautiful trees and a glimpse of the lake. Beautiful sunny day with blue sky.

Didn't really get to explore the surroundings since it was just a stop over. But got some good sleep and that's all that matters when getting back on the road early.

Make sure you take the paved road in, because the back road Google takes you on is crap.

    Peaceful but fabulous!

Mostly concrete pads, most are pretty level. Lots of wildlife, clean shower housees, great camp hosts, firewood and ice available for purchase. Great lake nearby with beach, marina with small store, picnic area. Walking trails throughout. Macon and Bevier are close by. Very nice place to camp.

    Nice Spot

We liked this place. Very clean & quiet, but busy. Campground was full during our stay (2 nights).

Site 6 a modern concrete pad, level, & spacious. Camp hosts were great.

Beach is very nice. Lots of folks with small fishing boats having fun.

5 minute drive into town for groceries & gas. Nice area for sure.

    Quiet, friendly hosts

The campground hosts, Dan and his wife, have been nothing but helpful and kind. They make their rounds often but never impose. Sites are level, the park is quiet, there is fishing and plenty of hiking. Facilities are clean and well maintained. Plenty of spacing between sites too!

    Prairie Ridge

Prairie Ridge has some nice wild flowers and a good view of Lake Rathbun

Lake Rathbun is a destination for boaters and campers in the State of Iowa. The Army Corps of Engineers operates and maintains several facilities around the lake. Prairie Ridge campground is one of those facilities.

The campsites are good. They have a fire pit, a place to hang food to keep away from raccoons, electricity, and a nice gravel pad for your vehicle or camper. It has modern toilets and some of the campsites have a nice overlook of the lake.

What stands out at this campground is the prairie grass and all of the wild flowers. It is a nice weekend getaway.

    Shoemaker RV Park

    Great spot

Love this place. They have a great staff, full store for almost anything you do, and don’t, need for your RV. 30/50 amp service throughout. K row is preferential. Spread out fairly well. You’re not on top of each other here.

    Thousand Hills State Park Campground

    Fun Labor Day weekend

Thousand Hills SP was great. Huge swim beach, lots of trails, pavilions, playground equipment and beautiful views. Park has a full service marina where you can rent kayaks or fill your boat with gas. It also has a restaurant. Restaurant was not a little more upscale. I wouldn’t show up in flip flops and swim trunks. If you don’t have a RV or tent there are cabins to rent as well.
