    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Memphis

Clean and well maintained with lots of activities

This is a huge campground and the price for a spot was at least double what we would pay elsewhere (nearly $100). We weren’t able to get a campground at Tom Sawyer and the reviews were all over the place for the rest of the Memphis campgrounds that we decided to go ahead and splurge on this one.

This was our first Jellystone and I was shocked at how many campers the campground accommodated - there are RVs everywhere. Most of the amenities and services are located at the front of the campground and includes a store and propane, playground, dog run, pool, showers and laundry, gold mining station, and sports courts (basketball, Gaga ball, and basketball). Further back in the campground, was another playground and dog run and a really cute little lake.

We were staying off-season so there was no activities and they actually deflated the jumping pad, but my kids still had fun and I could see this campground either being a blast in the summer or being a nightmare because of too many people. While we were there, I saw almost no children and several of the camper sites looked like the guests were staying long-term. For a campground that is marketed towards families, the demographics were a bit strange.

That said, it was super clean, well-organized, the landscaping and sites were maintained, everyone was friendly. We got two loads of wash done and my husband said the showers looked good. There were some restaurants and a Walgreen that looked like they delivered to the campground. WiFi worked and they had cable tv.

We reserved a basic site, but for more money you could get a site with Adirondack patio furniture and there were plenty of cabins as well. We reserved same day online and they have a system for late check-ins.

I’m definitely giving Jellystone another go - but next time during the summer. I’m not sure whether this campground is a good base for exploring Memphis - I think if you had a car it would probably be fine as it’s only 20 minutes or so.

    Serenity RV Park

    Newer RV Park

We heard about this new RV park through a blog email and decided to check it out. Following our GPS from I-22, we had no trouble finding the campground (CG).  We arrived at 3:00 PM to find the office closed, with a sign on the door indicating they would return at 3:30. Although we had prepaid for our reservation, we had not been assigned a site number. We called the contact number and left a message. A few minutes later, we received a call back with our site number and were informed that we could proceed to site 26 and check in once the staff member returned from lunch. Site 26 with FHUs is 1 of 6 pull through cement sites in the CG. The 4 back-in sites are cement pads. The pad was spacious, providing ample room for our 40’ fifth wheel and F-450 truck. There are two sewer connections on both cement and gravel sites, which is a nice convenience. Water and electric hookups are centrally located on the pad, though the electric connection sits low to the ground, requiring us to bend the surge protector to plug in. The water pressure was adequate at around 40 psi. The CG Wi-Fi worked well for basic tasks such as email and web browsing, including Facebook, though we did not attempt to stream. Facilities include a clean shower and restroom area, as well as a laundry room equipped with four washers and four dryers, each costing$3 per use. During our visit, the small dog run was unavailable due to maintenance or AstroTurf installation. A small playground is located adjacent to it. Most of the sites are pull-through, with a few back-in sites near the cabins. There is highway and train noise, but not too bad. The office carries a selection of snacks, drinks, and some RV essentials. Overall, the CG is a few miles west of Tupelo, with limited attractions nearby. While it offers good amenities and a convenient layout, the remote location may not appeal to those looking for nearby entertainment or dining options. This CG worked well for our overnighter.

    Persimmon Hill(enid Lake)

    Persimmon Hill Campground

What a great park. Or should I say another great COE park. This is the cleanest park we've seen. Very big rig friendly with large concrete pads with a little extra room for a boat or toad. Great vieas of the lake, which is said to be one of the best crappie lakes in the United States.$20.00 a night for full hook up and the geezer card bring it to$10.00. Can't beat that! Both ATT& Verizon came in strong. Did not try OTA TV. Shower facilities were also great with plenty of hot water and very clean facilities. Although you can hear Hwy 55 on a clear, calm night the route to the park isa bit tricky, as a bridge is out. But should be completed by this spring, I was told. Will definitely return. But keep in mind, we stayed a couple of days and left before the weekend. A quick walk around the park showed almost every site was reserved for the weekend starting Thursday. A popular park and worth it.

    Davis Lake Campground

    “Literally lake front camping!”

Davis Lake Recreation Area is situated just 4 miles from the Natchez Trace Parkway. The campground is adjacent to the Eastern shore of the 200 acre Davis Lake. 14 sites are right on the lake front offering spectacular sun rises and evening sun sets, The lake is known to anglers, and wildlife and birds are a given…we had a Great Blue Heron"friend" during our entire stay. The sites were level, paved, and all had nice spacing, picnic tables, fire pits and well cared for electric service (50 amp) and water. Bathhouses were clean and laundry was available. Dump Station. Plenty of historic places to visit in the area and groceries are available in Houlka just 4 miles away. We visited in late September with only 6 sites in use…felt like we had the place to ourselves…and being located in the Tombigbee National Forest there was no light pollution making the night sky a spectacular sight to see.

    EZ Daze RV Park

    Clean, concrete pads, good showers.

Ez Daze RV Park, Southaven, MS - We stayed one night in November. Easy pull through, level concrete site so we didn’t have to unhitch, very clean bathrooms and showers. They have two regular shower stalls which are extremely shallow and one ADA stall with pull down bench. We didn’t have much interaction with the staff because as soon as I walked in, about 4p, I was directed to find my site information outside in the after hours arrival box. Great if you’re looking for contactless registration or do in fact arrive after hours. There was debris in our space that must have been left by the previous camper and we had to get out and clear it before we could pull into the site. Appeared to be large broken pieces of a heavy plastic bumper. (Reason for 4 stars instead of 5) Strong wifi, cable reception wasn’t great. Code to the bathrooms, which is appreciated especially as the park is located in a business area and backs up to a residential neighborhood. Asphalt in front of office in extremely bad condition so be careful as you drive through. Nice office. They have plenty of long termers and there are two large receptacles outside the front office for package delivery. The park is easy access from I-55 and sits next to several RV dealers. Great place to stay if you want to have a look at some new trailers or motor homes. Also, a Tanger Outlet is just down the road. Full hook up, 50 amp site was $70, 63.00 with our Good Sam card which we think was a bit pricey. Oddly, there was only one trash receptacle in the entire park.

    Southaven RV Park

    Can’t beat the location

Located right off 55 at the first exit as you get into Mississippi. It’s 15-20 minutes from everything you want to do in the Memphis area like downtown or midtown. Groceries, gas, and other necessities are across the street. Mostly full timers here and everyone is friendly. It seems like the first pull through by the bathrooms and laundry is the transitory spot. Easy to get into, dry, and has a concrete patio. Not a ton of space between sites but definitely not the worst I’ve seen in smaller campgrounds like this. The people I spoke to in the office were awesome and very helpful. Had room to park the tow vehicle and the daily driver.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Memphis

    Fantastic campground

We were long term at this campground for 7 months. The staff was outstanding, the park was clean and well-kept, and the monthly rates were reasonable. We loved our stay here! We actually stayed from December 2020-July 2021.

    Cross City RV Park

One of the Better Short Stay Campgrounds

This review is based on a short stay campground (CG). We followed our GPS right to this CG off US-45 just south of Corinth. We were instructed by the very nice owner, Jim, to call when we were 30 minutes out so he could meet us. Jim was right there when we pulled in and we had the choice of two pull throughs or a back-in. We chose back-in site E with FHUs for our two night’s stay. The back-in was easy and the site was fairly level as we had no problems auto-leveling. Water pressure was good at around 45 psi. We had no problems with utilities that were towards the back of the pad as we could back in a good distance. There were no playground, picnic tables nor fire pits. The CG has full timers and seasonal campers, who were very nice. They have a nice bathroom with a shower plus a small laundry with one washer and dryer. The washing is free and drying costs$1. We got two bars on Verizon and a clear shot north for Starlink. This CG is listed under Passport America but looking at reviews on multiple sites, Jim charges everyone the same price around$30. There’s no dog area, but plenty of room to walk your pups. US-45 is near so you get highway noise. After several attempts, we never got connected to the CG’s wifi. Corinth has all your major amenities such as Walmart, Lowes, etc. Borroum's Drug Store and Soda Fountain is a throwback in time and a great place to get lunch. Get there early though, as they fill up fast.We enjoyed our stay in this no frills, laid back, and friendly CG. We would definitely stay here again.

    Trace State Park Campground

    Family friendly, single mom approved.

Camped for two weeks in mid fall, October 2020. Full hookups, clean bath house. Family friendly. It is dated though. Play area available, small and quant. Roads are drivable of course but need to be funded, come on Mississippi and step up.. 15-20 minutes from a supercenter on West Main Street in Tupelo. Tupelo is lovely and where we actually live. This is the nearest campground my children 13, 10, and 4 stay at. The 4yo loves is, hiking and bike riding is what the older kids do. Nice lake for fishing, no swimming or wake.

Site we stayed at was level, and fully shaded.

Guide to Potts Camp

The region sits at elevations ranging from 300-550 feet, with camping areas experiencing moderate summer humidity and mild winters. Cell reception varies significantly between campgrounds, with stronger signals typically available in sites closer to major highways and weaker coverage in more remote locations.

What to do

Fishing at Moon Lake Farm: Just 25 miles southwest of Potts Camp, Moon Lake Farm provides a small, intimate fishing spot on private property. Visitors appreciate the serene setting with its private lake. As one camper noted, "The land and lake are beautiful."

Memphis attractions access: Many campers use Potts Camp as a base for exploring Memphis attractions. Graceland RV Park is located directly adjacent to Elvis Presley's Graceland with "a connecting gate for easy access." Some campgrounds even offer unique transportation options, as one visitor shared, "The highlight of our stay here was the opportunity to take a free pink Cadillac limo ride to Marlowe's for superb BBQ."

Explore local farmers markets: Several campgrounds provide access to fresh local produce. The Agricenter RV Park features "a farmers market that has a pretty good selection of local fruits, veggies and your normal farmer market fare," making it convenient to stock up on local foods during your stay.

What campers like

Private, peaceful settings: Smaller campgrounds in the region offer quiet atmospheres away from crowds. At Moon Lake Farm, a guest described their experience as "a very peaceful stop with 30 amp power and water available. Well kept and very nice host." The property features "a short trail that goes around the property."

Security features: Many RV parks near Potts Camp prioritize camper safety. EZ Daze RV Park implements security measures like "code to the bathrooms, which is appreciated especially as the park is located in a business area." Another park provides "24/7 security" with a guard stationed at the entrance.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained amenities. One visitor to EZ Daze noted, "super clean showers, bathroom and laundry" and observed that "the grounds are impeccable and sites and roads are all paved." Another camper at a different park highlighted "clean bathrooms and showers" that enhanced their overnight stay.

What you should know

Site layout variations: RV parks in the region range from spacious to compact. At Serenity RV Park, "The pad was spacious, providing ample room for our 40' fifth wheel and F-450 truck." However, at other parks like Agricenter RV Park, sites are "stacked on top of each other" with "campers squeezed in" close together.

Utility quality concerns: Water pressure and electrical service vary between locations. Some parks report water pressure "at around 40 psi" while others may require regulation. One camper noted electrical inconsistencies: "I checked my Powerdog app and it showed 142.5 volts on line 2," indicating potential power supply issues.

Urban vs. rural settings: The camping experience differs based on location. Some parks are essentially "a parking lot with hookups" where "there are some rigs here who have obviously been here a LONG time," while others provide more natural settings. As one reviewer put it, "If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in the country, it is not."

Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: Several parks offer play areas for children. Agricenter International RV Park is part of a larger recreation area where families can find "4,500 acres of lakes, bike and running trails, playgrounds and so much more." However, not all playgrounds are well-maintained, as one camper noted, "playground is scary."

Swimming options: During summer months, pool access can be important. Some parks maintain swimming facilities, but quality varies. One reviewer mentioned that their park had a "swimming pool" among the amenities, making it "a great extended stay campground."

Activity proximity: Consider campground location relative to attractions. As one family explained, "This park is in a part of Shelby Farms Park which is a 4,500 acres of lakes, bike and running trails, playgrounds and so much more. The park also has plenty of events to keep you entertained. And, there are bison!!"

Tips from RVers

Leveling conditions: RV campers should prepare for varying pad quality. At some sites, "the pad was spacious" and "level concrete sites so we didn't have to unhitch," while at others you might find "sites on slight hill / could not get level."

Bathroom facilities: Restroom quality varies significantly between parks. One camper observed, "One bathroom was really clean and had a nicely tiled shower. The other bathroom was always dirty and wasn't updated like the other one." Another noted bathrooms are "clean and functional, just need a bit of cosmetic updating (peeling paint, missing tiles)."

Site selection strategy: For motorhome travelers staying at parks with uneven quality, site selection matters. As one RVer recommended, "Site 21 is nice and private at end of a row and is pull thru." Others noted certain areas to avoid: "There is highway and train noise, but not too bad" and "If you are further into the park" facilities may be "quite a walk."
