Camping in the Beaumont, Mississippi area centers around several developed campgrounds and recreation areas within the De Soto National Forest. Lake Perry Campground, located northeast of Beaumont, provides rustic camping with lakefront sites, electric hookups, and basic amenities for tent and RV campers. The surrounding region includes Turkey Fork Recreation Area and Paul B. Johnson State Park, offering a mix of developed sites with varying levels of amenities and access to water recreation. Camp Shelby Dispersed Camping provides more primitive options for those seeking a more remote experience.
Access to campgrounds varies seasonally, with some areas experiencing higher humidity and occasional storms during summer months. Most established campgrounds remain open year-round, though Lake Perry and similar sites may be less crowded during winter. The region's terrain is generally flat to gently rolling, with pine forests providing shade at many campsites. Cell service can be spotty in more remote areas, particularly in the Leaf Wilderness Area where dispersed camping is permitted. Reservations are recommended for developed sites, especially during weekends and holidays. One camper noted, "Lake Perry, Beaumont, MS: We stopped for an overnight stay. Worked fine. Most sites have an unhindered view of the lake. Currently, the fallen brown leaves and leafless deciduous trees do not make this campground inviting. I imagine the scenery is much more attractive in spring and into fall."
Water access represents a significant draw for campers in the Beaumont area, with fishing opportunities available at Lake Perry, Turkey Fork, and other nearby water bodies. Several visitors mentioned the peaceful atmosphere and natural setting as highlights of their camping experience. The campgrounds near Beaumont serve as convenient base camps for exploring deeper into De Soto National Forest while remaining close to basic services. Facilities at most developed campgrounds include restrooms, showers, and picnic areas, though amenities vary by location. As one reviewer shared, "This is the furthest campground northeast in the forest/park, making it as far away from New Orleans as possible...which is nice for minimizing crowds. Perfect base camp for traveling deep into DeSoto National Forest while still being close enough to civilization." Campers should be aware that Camp Shelby military base is nearby, which occasionally produces noise that can be heard from some camping areas.

Clean and cozy campground. Lots of trees. Cement and gravel sites available. Laundry, restrooms, pool, dog park, and a pond that you can fish in.
This doesn’t exist and looks to be private property
Guys this is just a little small spot right off the highway by an old run-down not even open store. It has maybe 6 spots. It’s definitely not scenic. It looks like a “we need to stop now and not set up anything” kind of place. It looks directly out to hwy 49. Did not stay here just drove past.
There’s only one site big enough for our l shaped canopy tent and since you cannot reserve you have to get there and hope it’s open. For small tents it’s great, but make sure you have an inverter to convert to 110. The sites are also on a hill so almost all the sites are at a slant except the actual small pad area for each site. It would be a really tight fit for even small RVs
The bathrooms are single occupancy and really need updating, but they aren’t “dirty” just old. They are not climate controlled.
For small tents camping and for those very confident in the rv maneuvering skills, this is a little gem. For anything else, you might find yourself in a really tight spot.
This is a beautiful lakeside campground with lots of sites. It’s a larger campground that caters to RVs of all sizes, but is great for tent camping too! They allow tent camping in the “RV pads” but even better is they don’t make you pitch your tent on the concrete or gravel. You can pitch your tent in the grass. They also have a really really nice primitive area without hookups, but has water really close. It’s well maintained and shady all day.
The lake is beautiful. There is fishing and kayaking and boating. They do rent kayaks but idk how much. There are piers to fish off of.
This is a beautifully maintained park, but the BEST part for this tent camping gal? The bath houses ARE CLIMATE CONTROLLED!
To me this is kind of the best of both worlds. Enough nature to not feel like you’re in an rv resort, but all the amenities of one.
Paul B Johnson State Park in South Mississippi has newly renovated the RV campground with full hookups and level concrete pads. Geiger Lake is great for fishing, swimming, boating and all water activities. Plus you’re not far for a drive to the gulf.
Clean air conditioned bathrooms and showers, huge lake for fishing, boating or swimming, very quiet, friendly rangers and host, paved lots are semi-level with some more level than others, full hookups for all spaces, beach area, easy access for any size RV with both pull thru and back in sites.
I moved in on 08/05/26. It's a nice park, it's clean, quiet and the manager is nice. When I rented my cottage the manager advised me that a guy would be coming by to feed a cat he left behind when he moved to another cottage on the property. I told her that's fine but I don't want him coming up on my porch and that I will take care of the cat as I already have one. Then my 2nd night here I hear a dog barking while my cat is going crazy in the window. I looked outside to see a pitbull tied to my steps. When I opened my door to see what was going on the dog lunged at me and was barking trying to get to me. Thank God it was tied up. The owner and I got into a shouting match and I told him to keep his dog away. He came back the next night with the dog. Once again I asked him not to come around with the dog. He told me to get back in my house Bitch! I advised the manager of this incident and she asked if we could just get a long. A couple days later I saw her and told her I will try to talk to the guy. Last night 08/18/26 I was going to my car when he walked by with his dog, I said Hey man I want to talk to you. He said FO, flipped me off and called me names again. As I walking back to my cottage he came walking back by and started cussing and asked me if I wanted to fight and told me not to come out of my place when I see him. I'm 64 years old with heart failure this guy is half my age. Now I don't feel safe or comfortable here. All I want is to live in peace. Roger(Mike) Hrasdzira
