Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Gautier, MS

Shepard State Park Campground accepts pets at its wooded sites with electric hookups and picnic tables. Located in Gautier, this state park provides tent and RV camping options with sites spaced far enough apart for privacy. The primitive camping area offers a more secluded experience for campers with dogs. Davis Bayou Campground in nearby Ocean Springs also welcomes pets throughout its grounds, featuring tent, RV, and cabin accommodations. Most pet-friendly campgrounds in the area include standard amenities like fire rings, trash service, and access to drinking water. Several RV resorts including Santa Maria RV Park, Indian Point RV Resort, and The Cozy Rosy RV Resort maintain pet-friendly policies while offering full hookups for longer stays. The overflow lot at Indian Point provides extra space for pets to run and play despite the campground's no private bonfire rule.

Hiking trails at Shepard State Park give dogs ample exercise opportunities with marsh paths ideal for wildlife viewing. The newly renovated bathhouses and clean facilities make for a comfortable stay when camping with pets. Sugar Sands Campground offers waterfront campsites where dogs can enjoy swimming and water access along Bluff Creek. Local campgrounds maintain varying pet policies regarding leash requirements and designated pet areas. Summer months bring increased heat, humidity and insects which can affect pets camping in tent sites, particularly at Davis Bayou where the marshland environment may require careful site selection. The disc golf course and multiple-use fields at Shepard State Park provide additional recreation areas where leashed pets can accompany their owners. Most campgrounds enforce standard pet etiquette rules including waste cleanup and noise control during quiet hours.

    Santa Maria RV Park

Christopher Columbus Would Have Loved This Place!

I’m not sure where they got the name from, but if El Colon was still living, he would really dig how this RV parking lot is using the name of his beloved Santa Maria! Located due south of Farragut Lake, right off Rt. 10 and just west of the Pascagoula River, you’ll come across Santa Maria RV Resort Marina.

This spot offers up just about everything you would expect – full RV hook ups including water, sewer and electricity (30 / 50 amp), level gravel beds where you can just connect, level up and be done with it in under 5 minutes. Unlike most RV parking lots, this place has a ton of space and there’s somewhat good distance between your spot and those on either side of you. And if you’re hauling or driving anything bigger than the standard RV or camper, no worries, this place is spacious enough to accommodate just about any size (and even large group sizes). The campground was both kid and pet friendly. Also, I found the on-site campground management team to be incredibly over-friendly (nice Southern hospitality!) and accommodating.

From an amenities standpoint, this place is completely full-service (in fact, they’ll escort you right to your campsite!). They’ve got a small, but clean swimming pool, laundr-O-mat, spartan restroom facilities and a propane pump on-site. WiFi is available for free and cable is offered for a small price if you need that. Overall, I found the place to be very well-organized, incredibly clean and exceptionally safe with round-the-clock security.

With nature in mind, this place is in close proximity to quite a bit – from Gautier, MS who’s moniker is ‘Nature’s Playground,’ there’s tons of wildlife to see, decent outdoor recreation and hiking to be found and bayous all over the place to drop your kayak or canoe into.

Insider’s tip? Some of the best kayaking was had in and around Mississippi - Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. Closer to the campground though, you’ll find a splendid little Southern town in the City of Gautier, which has some quiet boutique-type shops, Southern restauarnts (I strongly recommend Belle’s on the Bayou or Country Gentleman), farmers market on the weekends, nice municipal parks and even some art exhibits from time to time. All in all, I strongly recommend Santa Maria RV Resort Marina if you’re looking for a decent stop along your travels.

    Happy Camping!

    Parkers Landing RV Park

    Nice Little Park

This is a nice little park. Not fancy, but friendly and quiet. The office people were really nice and very accomodating. Has a small pool, showers/restrooms, and laundry. There are maybe 50% fulltime residents, but we were there for two months and never heard/saw any drama or trouble. People were friendly and kept mainly to themselves. Park has lots of shade from beautiful live oak trees and has a waterfront area that is very pretty. No dog park, but plenty of places to walk your leashed pet. There is a boat ramp around the corner and I believe the waterway connects to the river. The park is older, and some of the cement pads are cracked and heaving, but looked like people were able to level up. They mow and trim regularly, so things were neat. This isn't a new fancy park, but it was nice and quiet and we liked it. We had site 64 which was a great really long pull thru with full hookups. Our Verizon reception was good. They offer reasonable weekly and monthly prices as well as nightly. The park is off Exit 41 of I-10 about halfway between D'Iberville/Biloxi exit and Gulfport exit (both have tons of shopping). Local area has tons to do...casinos, beaches, about an hour and quarter to New Orleans, Shuckers baseball, plus tons of great food.

    Gulf Beach RV Resort

    Good for RV spot overnight

Stayed here because it was so close, literally a block away, from the Mississippi Colosseum, for granddaughters cheer competition. We checked it and were greeted at arrival, with information packet. FHU, back-in concrete pad, and small dog park. A nice clubhouse and facilities, although we did not use. Directly across the street from the beach, perfect for photos. Clean pool but too cold to use. Very close to neighbors and backed up to apts, which the garbage truck came super early on Sat, dumpster on other side of fence. We were up early, but if you like relaxing and peacefulness, probably not my choice. Close to lots of area attractions, stores and restaurants. Many closed for off season, however. Waffle House next door to RV park. Good for short stay!

The primitive campsite was very nice. Even though the park was a bit crowded we still had privacy. The dog park was perfect for our two large dog, very clean. Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground

    Roomy sites and great service

We were arriving a day early and stuck in bad storms. Thank goodness they had space! The sites were very roomy and level. Utilities were near each other for easy set up. The park had a good sized dog park and lots of green space to play frisbee golf or walk.

    Deer Creek RV Park

Highly Recommend and will stay here again

We stayed at Deer Creek RV Park after returning from Florida headed back out west and this place is awesome. It is very conveniently located off I-65 and the park is very well kept, bathhouses are immaculate and very large. Has a dog park which our dog loved being off leash and owners are very nice, informative and can also recommend great restaurants around. They also have two other RV sites close to Gulf Shores and OWA in Foley. Highly recommend!

    Shields RV Park

    2 parks 2 different feels

Lived in the front park for 6 months. Busy with outside traffic and trains. Park in the back of base is newer and nicer. 20x40 level concrete pads. Secluded from the rest of base. Little fishing pods and trails from old golf course. Bath house with 4 separate rooms with toilets and showers. Washer and dryer. Near giant voice speaker so you won’t sleep in past 8am any day and you’ll hear any emergency. Only way out is tricky during pt hours in the morning with all the runners. Large dog park a short walk away.

Guide to Gautier

The Mississippi Gulf Coast offers several pet-friendly camping options within Gautier and nearby communities. Located in Jackson County with its network of bayous and coastal marshland, Gautier sits at approximately 10 feet above sea level with a humid subtropical climate. Summer temperatures regularly reach 90°F with high humidity, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons for pets and their owners.

What to do

Disc golf course access: Shepard State Park Campground features a complete disc golf course within walking distance of campsites. "There is a disc golf course, an archery range, and a large multi-use field as well as a small boat launch," notes camper Simon C.

Water activities on Bluff Creek: Sugar Sands Campground provides direct water access for pets and owners. "Waterfront with swimming and canoeing! Concession area and multiple clean showers and bathrooms, open all year!" reports Hugo R.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Exploring nature trails offers chances to spot local wildlife. "There's plenty of walking trails, and you can check out the gator alley area where you'll typically see at least one gator," mentions Kaylin R. about nearby Davis Bayou Campground.

What campers like

Well-spaced campsites: Many campers appreciate the privacy at certain campgrounds. "Campsites are well spaced and private with some water fronting on the Pascagoula River. Water and electric at each site with dump station at the entrance," says Bianca B. about Shepard State Park.

Renovated facilities: Recent upgrades have improved camping experiences. "The bathhouse next to my site was freshly remodeled, and clean. Campsites are not on top of each other," Doug M. reports about his stay at Shepard State Park.

Affordable rates: Budget-conscious pet owners appreciate reasonable pricing. "Can't beat the price at $18 a night, reservations available on their website," mentions Bianca B. about camping with pets at Shepard State Park.

What you should know

Overflow lots may offer advantages: Some RV parks have unexpected benefits in their overflow areas. "Due to an emergency we made last minute reservations and Indian Point RV Resort was very accommodating and helpful. Little known to us, this is the best spot to be! We are backed up to an enormous hill with maintained grass and trees! We brought our three dogs and our 3 year old and the space was perfect to let them run and lose some energy," explains TJ M.

Campfire restrictions vary: Some campgrounds prohibit personal fires. "Only draw back of this camp ground is they do not allow private bonfires," notes TJ M. about Indian Point RV Resort's policy.

Weather considerations: Gulf Coast weather patterns affect camping comfort. "Summer months bring increased heat, humidity and insects which can affect pets camping in tent sites," particularly in marshland environments.

Tips for camping with families

Primitive camping for privacy: Some families prefer more secluded options. "The primitive campsite was very nice. Even though the park was a bit crowded we still had privacy. The dog park was perfect for our two large dog, very clean. My toddler had a very easy time walking around which was a huge plus!" shares Yesenia about their experience at Shepard State Park.

Beach proximity options: For families wanting both camping and beach time, certain parks offer convenient access. "Good location. Across the street from the beach. Nice pool. Clean bathhouse. Lots of activities like putt putt golf, go carts, sailing, fishing etc," explains Mark J. about Cajun RV Park.

Cabin accommodations: Families seeking more comfort can find cabin options. "We recently stayed in a cabin with 4 kids. This campground was perfect. The girls enjoyed being able to play outside and the pool. The scenery was gorgeous as well," reports Melissa S. about her family's stay at Indian Point RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: RV campers should research site layouts carefully. "Unfortunately, the loop is one way, and because of the way the sites are laid out, it forces you to back in on your blind side," warns Martha S. about her experience at Biloxi Bay RV Resort.

Proximity to attractions: Many RVers appreciate locations near recreational options. "Great location for beach and casino. Grounds are well kept. Not as quiet as would expect with train track located near rear of campsite," notes Tommy W. about Cajun RV Park.

Cellular connectivity: Remote work campers should note signal availability. "AT&T is 1 bar, Verizon is 2-3 bars," reports Rene about service at Shepard State Park, important information for those needing to stay connected while enjoying pet-friendly camping near Gautier, Mississippi.
