McGinnis Lake Modern Campground — Holly Recreation Area

The State of Michigan has dropped the ball…

No sewer or dumps is available at this campground (April 2022). You will have to dump elsewhere. If there was a memo I missed it. Made reservation in winter 2021. Had great Verizon and ok TMobile service. Site itself was easy to level and adequate for our big rig. It was one of 4 50 amp sites in the park. Nice large grassy site and the park was not very full.

    Frankenmuth Jellystone Park

Fun RV park and very close to downtown

Our site was averaged out to $82.71 a night with the weekly rate discount.

We were in Site# 306 (a deluxe plus RV site - be aware that some of these are back-ins and not clearly labeled on the site map - we had to change sites to a pull-thru). We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with zero trees. We weren’t able to sit outside because of the direct sun until after 8:30pm.
This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The deluxe plus lot comes without a concrete patio but with a picnic table and fire ring. They do sell firewood and will deliver to your site.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are quite a few channel options.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent pedal bikes. They do not provide golf cart rentals.

They do have a heated indoor and heated outdoor Swimming pool and one hot tub.

There is a Playground. They also offer Gaga ball, basketball sport court, and volleyball courts. There is a Game room for kids. They have a Putt putt course and Jumping pad.

They have a great general store. There is a separate Activity Center for kids.
There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like wagon rides, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, etc. Activities are scheduled all day from 9am to 8pm.

There is a snack bar on site from 4pm-9:30pm where you can get hot dogs, brats, pretzels, nachos, ice cream, etc.

The streets are mostly paved and good for riding bikes.

This is an RV park with cabins to rent also. Tent camping is also allowed.

They have two shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine in the arcade room. There are approximately 4washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.75 to wash and $0.75 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Flies were an issue and bug spray was needed.

There were no trails to hike off of the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are Frankenmuth FunShips (chocolate & wine tasting), the Golden Ticket Trolley, the Bavarian Belle (popcorn & sodas) River Place Shops, wineries, and Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland store. This RV park is less than a mile to downtown/River Place Shops where there is tons of shopping.

    Holiday RV Campground

    Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

    Pine Ridge RV Campground

Lots of tall pines and hardwoods providing good cover

Nice pull through sites, some are tight, but none are impossible. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. There’s private land on either side and a dirt bike track that the neighbor owns on the north end, so if you’ve got a light afternoon napper, stay away from that end. Clean facilities, close to attractions and highway. Overall a good spot to stay

    Groveland Oaks County Park

    Kid friendly

This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds. Full hookup area is away from most of the weekend traffic with a short cut to get to where all the kids stuff is located. I think it is a little pricier than most monthly rentals in southeast Michigan. We chose for the convenient location for spending the weekends. Our campsite was a little difficult to get into because it was on a curve and there was a seasonal camper with a Class A right across from our site which didn’t allow for a lot of space to maneuver our 26 ft travel trailer. It was, however, fairly close to the park and restrooms.

    Oaks Campgrounds

    Nice for the Night

Friendly staff. Camp store in office. Pull through full hook up site. Seemed to be more of a permanent campground but everyone was friendly. The campground hosted activities such as a potluck and dj dance party at the pavilion.

    Bay County Fairgrounds

    Great location and quiet

We stayed here 2 years ago.  The office where payment is made is a few miles away from the actual campground.

There is a dump station and water at the fairgrounds.  Along the left side near the dump / water station as you enter are huge grassy sites marked by electrical outlets at the rear of the sites. The rest of the fairgrounds are set up like  a traditional campground on a "loop" style.  It looks like almost all the sites will accommodate a 40 footer easily.

There were 2 or 3 campers who appeared to be long term seasonal guests but it did not distract from our overall stay.

We pull an Imagine 2500RL pulled by a Ford F-150 max trailer package.

We stayed 4 nights and spent the days traveling around Bay City.

Founds a great BBQ that had been shared by MI PLAYGROUND ---  Meaty's Roadhouse BBQ& Sausage Shack Bay City.
We are planning our Summer 2024 travels and will; be stopping at the Bay County Fairgrounds again this summer.

Guide to Corunna

Campgrounds near Corunna, Michigan cater to a range of camping preferences while being situated in the central Michigan region where the terrain is primarily flat with small hills and numerous lakes. The camping season typically runs from April through October, with temperatures ranging from 45°F to 85°F during these months. Access to natural bodies of water varies by location, with some sites offering direct shoreline access and others requiring short drives to public lakes.

What to do

Fishing in multiple lakes: Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground provides several fishing opportunities in a man-made lake. "Fishing is good here for some largemouth bass, and huge blueguils. Lots of traffic being so close to City, but good day excursion," notes Michael P. The park also offers 13 miles of hiking trails through mixed hardwood forest.

Golf on-site: Several rv campgrounds near Corunna, Michigan provide on-site recreational activities. Holiday Shores RV Park features a 9-hole golf course right on the property. According to Jamie H., "The attached 9 hole golf course was well maintained and had some tricky holes. There were changes in elevation and multiple water hazards... Overall it was a fun, mostly challenging round of golf that is worth checking out!"

Water park access: For families seeking more structured water activities, certain parks offer additional amenities. "Super close to the casino, you get discounts at the water park! 4th of July fireworks the best and so close!" reports Renee C. about Soaring Eagle Hideaway RV Park, which includes water park privileges during summer stays.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Hideaway RV Park receives praise for its generous site dimensions. "Very spacious sites, all of which are full hookups for a very reasonable price. Nice people running this place," notes Curt. Seasonal campers occupy many sites, creating a stable community atmosphere.

Clean facilities: Bathroom and shower cleanliness ranks high in camper satisfaction at multiple parks. "The bathrooms are key for me and are very clean. The showers are private and are quarter operated," reports Dawn W. The shower facilities at most parks receive regular maintenance throughout the camping season.

Privacy between sites: Pine Ridge RV Campground offers sites with good separation. "We enjoyed this very quiet campground. It is not a family 'resort' style campground. There is a playground, no pool. Each site has full hook-ups and are a good size. Nice shade trees at most sites," explains Mary S. The natural buffers between sites create a more secluded camping experience.

What you should know

Site variability: Even within the same campground, site quality and size can differ significantly. Kristin T. notes about Pine Ridge: "Some camp sites are squished up to others. Other camp sites have plenty of room. So when you are stuck in a spot that is tight it kind of ruins the experience. Weird thing is, the bigger sites are the same price."

Electrical access challenges: Campers should prepare for potential electrical connection issues. Nick W. reports about Sleepy Hollow: "Most electrical posts are designed to accommodate at least 2 adjoining lots, and as many as 4. This in itself is not a concern until you realize the posts are way too far away to reach without an extension." Some parks provide extension cords upon request.

Reservation systems vary: Holiday RV Campground uses an older reservation system that can cause difficulties. "They say after hours is ok, unfortunately after confirming and paying in full for my site they forgot to post my site information which left me stranded in the pouring rain," reports one camper. Calling ahead during business hours is recommended.

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: When camping with children, park amenities become important considerations. "They have expanded sites recently, newer areas have no trees. Older sites have plenty of shade. Playground near pool is nice, and there are 2 other playgrounds. Pool is very new," notes Denise F. about Holiday RV Campground.

Beach access distance: Haas Lake Park RV Campground provides lake access but requires planning. "Arrived to a super friendly guy Chris that escorted us to our site. We have a pull thru that was very spacious with a long driveway. Nice lake view across the road. This location has 4 lakes," shares Karen C. Some campgrounds require a walk to reach swimming areas.

Halloween events: For families visiting in fall, special events add value. "Every year they put together an awesome Halloween trick or treat weekend, but be sure to book the day of six months before because otherwise you will not get a site," advises Stephanie C. about Sleepy Hollow State Park. Seasonal events fill quickly and require advance planning.

Tips from RVers

Cell service information: Connectivity varies significantly between rv campgrounds in Corunna, Michigan and surrounding areas. Sean N. reports about Holiday RV Campground: "Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms) and AT&T cell (27d, 20u, 27ms)." Other parks report weaker signals, particularly in heavily wooded areas.

Extension cord requirements: Several campgrounds require campers to bring extension cords. Amy D. notes about Sleepy Hollow: "The park needs to upgrade the electrical system as this was putting a strain on their electrical equipment." A 50-foot extension cord is often insufficient at some parks.

Firewood availability: Most campgrounds sell firewood on-site, though quality and price vary. Some parks deliver wood directly to campsites upon request, while others require pickup from a central location. Local regulations prohibit bringing outside firewood to prevent the spread of invasive species.
