Several RV campgrounds near Edgewater, Maryland offer full hookup sites for motorhomes and travel trailers. Cherry Hill Park in College Park provides 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections on level pull-through sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in Abingdon features 91 sites, including waterfront options with 30/50-amp service. "Our site was level and the full hookups all worked fine. Beside our gravel site, there was a small brick patio with cafe table and chairs in addition to the picnic table, fire ring, and grill," noted one visitor about Cherry Hill Park. Camp Meade RV Park in Laurel accommodates big rigs with full hookup sites and remains open year-round, though some sites have tight spacing requiring careful maneuvering.

Access to dump stations varies throughout the region, with most RV parks offering on-site sanitary facilities. During winter months, water hookups at some parks may be disconnected to prevent freezing, so RVers should confirm availability when making reservations. Cell service is generally strong across campgrounds in this suburban area between Washington DC and Baltimore. According to one camper at Bar Harbor RV Park, "The daily waterfront sites are pricy but right on the water with great views. Some of the trailer sites are a tough back in but worth the trouble." Most parks welcome pets with designated exercise areas, though specific restrictions may apply. Proximity to DC attractions makes these RV parks popular year-round, with Cherry Hill Park offering shuttle service to the city for those who prefer not to drive their motorhomes into the capital.

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Lake Fairfax Campground

Decent campground in the middle of a urban area

Spent two nights while we saw the Avett Brothers play at Wolf Trap. Nice flat site with power. Campground was quiet and clean. The only negative is communication and signage. It took us a couple wrong turns to find our site and when we came back, after the concert around 11, the entrance gate was closed and we had to sneak in through the exit gate. Asked the next day and they said that is what campers do to access the park after 11pm.

      Redemption Springs

      Pleasant Stay and Hosts

We stayed at Redemption Springs to get relatively close to Baltimore without bringing our 30ft travel trailer into the city. Seth and the other gentlemen I spoke with were all extremely accommodating. Enjoyed learning about their approach to restorative farming and purchasing a variety of treats at the farm store. Beef, pork, chicken, seasonings, baked goods, and more. We booked on Hipcamp and recommend following his driving instructions. Our rig fit fine by tuhe main barn and they kept an eye on us going in and out to make sure we didn't have issues making any of the turns. Lots of farm life!

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

      Annapolis MWR Academy RV/Campground

      Great spot for Retirees/Active

If you want to be near Annapolis, right on the Severn River...this is it. About 15 RV spots nestled in the woods...with full hook ups. A couple of primitive spots as well. Just a quick 5 min walk to the river...right across from the Academy. NEX, gas within 10 min walk, and 15 min drive to downtown Annapolis. Staff is always great here, and the park is clean....for a park on the woods.

Smallwood State Park Campground - TEMPORARILY CLOSED THROUGH JULY 2023

      Great Escape! Air conditioned cabins!

What a gem!  We found this place as an alternative to staying in DC during  4th of July festivities.  Nice spacious sites, cabins were super clean and smelled great!  Did I mention they were air conditioned during the hotest week of the summer!

      Bathrooms and showers were spotless.

Many things to see and do there. Historic property, big lake (no swimming), boating, fishing, hiking.  There is an Art Center with juried displays for sale.

      Burke Lake Park Campground

      Amenities good

The park is very well maintained, and the campsites have clean fire pits and cooking grills. The restrooms are clean, spacious, and well maintained, and my campsite was large enough to comfortably fit a 6-person tent and a canopy.

However, there were a few concerns during our stay. Despite the campground’s quiet hours policy starting at 10:00 PM, many campers continued to make noise well past that time. I did not notice any campground staff or maintenance personnel making rounds to enforce the quiet hours.

I also felt concerned about security. One of my neighboring campers, who was visiting from South Carolina, told me that his generator had been stolen during the night. He reported the theft to the police, and an official report was filed. Incidents like this made me feel unsafe while camping.

I recommend increasing staff or security patrols, especially during the evening and overnight hours, to enforce quiet hours and improve the safety and security of campers and their belongings. With better enforcement and security, Burke Lake Campground would provide an even better camping experience.

      Bay Shore Campground

      Fred’s bay shore

One of our favorite places. Very well kept. No bathhouse so bring your own. A lot of shady sites. Great views of Chesapeake bay. Flat roads in the area for cycling.

    Guide to Edgewater

Camping in Edgewater, Maryland provides access to the Chesapeake Bay watershed with elevations generally below 100 feet and mild mid-Atlantic weather conditions. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 85°F and moderate winters, though some RV sites maintain water hookups year-round. Campgrounds within 30 miles offer varying degrees of waterfront access, forested settings, and proximity to both Washington DC and Baltimore.

    What to do

Hiking trails: At Patapsco Valley State Park campers can access over 70 miles of multi-use trails directly from their sites. "Took a fairly easy hike down to the river and even went for a swim. Loved it so much, I stopped on the way back home again!" notes one visitor who found the wooded trails accessible for all skill levels.

Wildlife viewing: Eastern Neck Wildlife Sanctuary is just 7 minutes from Bay Shore Campground, offering multiple trail systems for bird watching. "If you enjoy beautiful sunsets, seeing bald eagles every day, having a nice breeze, not too buggy, well kept campground this is the place to go," shares a visitor who appreciated the natural setting and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Water activities: Many waterfront campgrounds offer kayaking, fishing, and boating access. "Camped here at the end of summer, really loved it. Had our kayaks with us and the water wasn't but a few steps away. Some sites you are right on the waters edge," remarks a visitor to Bar Harbor RV Park, highlighting the convenient water access available to campers.

    What campers like

Waterfront settings: Numerous campsites near Edgewater feature direct water access, particularly appealing during summer months. "Beautiful water front sites and good location right off 95. We are here visiting family for the holidays and it's serving us well," notes a visitor at Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina, commenting on the scenic waterfront options that remain accessible year-round.

Military facilities: For qualified military personnel, installations near Edgewater provide secure camping options with base amenities. "Military campground. Very spartan but great location. Not much to do in the campground and some long timers there. Dirt cheap," reports a visitor to the Annapolis FamCamp, noting the cost advantage for eligible campers despite basic facilities.

Swimming pools: Summer heat makes pool access especially valuable at rv sites near Edgewater, Maryland. "Campground is close (ish) to the DC area. It is easy and convenient to get to. Almost all sites are pull through and are close together. Playground is nice," mentions a camper at Prince William Forest RV Campground, appreciating the recreational amenities during warm months.

    What you should know

Tick prevention: Several forested campgrounds report significant tick issues, particularly in spring and early summer. "We arrived on a Sunday. Very quiet, many open RV spots around us. We had site 18. Which is next to one of the water spigots. Lots of trails but in June at least the ticks were waaaay too plentiful," warns a visitor at Cedarville State Forest, suggesting thorough tick checks and repellent use.

Cellular service: Coverage varies by carrier, with most established campgrounds maintaining adequate signals. "Cell service is good. I can confirm Verizon and Google fi have great service. I would imagine any other carrier would work just as well," shares a visitor at Prince William Forest RV Campground regarding connectivity options.

Noise considerations: Urban-adjacent camping locations may experience aircraft noise due to proximity to airports or military installations. "It's close to a Naval base, and therefore you constantly hear airplanes, and helicopters at all times," mentions a Cedarville State Forest camper, highlighting background noise present at some locations closer to DC.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Cherry Hill Park offers multiple family-friendly recreation options beyond their sites. "We loved it. Pros: 50 amp hook-up, Water, Sewer, Playground, Mini Golf, Swimming Pool, Hot tub, Basketball court, Snack bar on site, Nightly hayride, Gated, On-site camp store," details a family visitor appreciating the structured activities available for children.

Bathroom facilities: Clean, accessible facilities matter significantly for family camping trips. "Restrooms/showers: very clean, spacious, centrally located. My spot was in the back row and I didn't mind the walk," notes a Prince William Forest RV camper, highlighting the well-maintained facilities.

Educational opportunities: Several campgrounds provide access to historical or environmental learning experiences. "DC just up the road. National Marine Corp Museum just around corner," mentions a camper at Prince William Forest, pointing out the educational destinations within driving distance for family day trips.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Fort Belvoir Travel and RV Camp offers military members varying site qualities. "Spent several nights here while visiting Washington DC. You need military credentials. Handy to the DC Metro Transit system. Nice views of river. Some sites are a little unlevel, front to rear, but definitely manageable," advises an RVer who stayed at the military facility.

Winter preparations: RV campers should verify water hookup availability during colder months. "Weekend was cold but the park was pretty full. This is close to us so it was an easy trip. Full hookup but we're told to turn off and unhook water the night it dropped below freezing," reports a Bar Harbor RV Park visitor detailing seasonal considerations.

Site spacing: Consider how close neighboring sites are when booking rv sites near Edgewater. "Tight spots but very big and clean park. Great for camping if u want to go into Washington DC," notes a Cherry Hill Park visitor, highlighting the trade-off between proximity to attractions and site spaciousness.
