Most pet-friendly sites feature picnic tables and fire rings where campers can relax with their animals. Bathrooms at Chicot State Park were recently updated and clean, though the spacing between campers at site 363 was noted as being tight. Campground data and reviews near Mansura, Louisiana is regularly updated on The Dyrt.

Indian Creek Recreation Area provides multiple pet-friendly camping options including cabin rentals where dogs are welcome. Campers note the presence of wildlife in the area, particularly at Spring Bayou where alligators, snakes, and other swamp creatures are commonly spotted—important considerations when camping with pets. Mosquitoes can be problematic, especially at Spring Bayou where they were described as "big enough to carry you away," so pet owners should pack repellent for themselves and appropriate protection for their animals. The 20-amp electrical service at Spring Bayou is scheduled for upgrades, though the campground remains primarily suited for fishing enthusiasts with pets who enjoy natural surroundings. Tunica Hills Campground offers an alternative pet-friendly experience with electric hookups, showers, and toilets for those seeking more amenities while traveling with animals.

River View RV Park & Resort

      Great place!

This is the second time I have camped here and both times have been great! The park is on the banks of the Mississippi River just south of the bridge on the Vidalia. LA side. Great walking, biking, running path that you can follow under the bridge. Dog Park, playground for the kids, and pool. The staff always seem pleasant and there are plenty of squirrels, which my French Bulldog loves to chase. He’s a squirrel dog in his own mind! 🤣

      Very nice RV park

This is a very nice RV Park. It’s big. Almost 150 sites, with water, sewer and 30/50 amp electric. There are also a few tent sites with electricity. It’s well kept-grass is mowed, grounds and facilities are clean. There is a playground, a dog park, pool and hot tub. Showers and bathrooms are nice. Laundry room, small grocery/gift shop. And a guest lounge. There is a paved walking trail along the river. There is also a public boat ramp about 1/4 mile away for access to the Mississippi. Internet was sport. With this many Class A motorhomes and people streaming media the server can’t keep up.

      Relaxing and charming!

We enjoyed this campground so much.  Helpful staff, clean campground and beautiful scenery on the Mississippi River looking over to Natchez, MS.

They have a dog park, fenced in area, to let them run and play.

      Big Rig Friendly

Nice wide roads in the park so easy to access your site. Pool area is very nice. There are tables, chairs, rocking chairs and recliners for your use. There is a large shaded area if you don’t want to sit in the sun. The lawns throughout the park are very well maintained. Very level sites with shade. A very nice enclosed dog park along with many paths to walk your dog. Utilities all work well. Like most campgrounds, there are lots of cigarette butts on the ground and dog poop. I don’t understand why people can not pick up after themselves! WIFI is spotty along with the over air channels. There were many dead large limbs in the trees above our site. We had a bad rain storm and many fell onto our roof. Luckily, we had no damage.

      Lakeview Park

      PRETTY, BUT NOISY

Don't get me wrong, I am not antisocial, but when I go camping I really want the natural quiet of nature. It was pretty busy, with many people gathered and partying. Kids driving crazy on golf carts. Otherwise, the property is pretty. The sites are easily accessible (our camper is approximately 30 ft). The showers were not available d/t covid 19, but were there. Our site 12 was level and had full hookups. Pet friendly. Large trees. Store on site and snack shop near the beach. Very kid friendly.

Kincaid Lake Campground - Temporarily Closed

      Great weekend getaway

We spent last weekend at Kincaid Lake Campground in Kisatchie. We stayed on Loop A. It was a much busier campground than we expected. Loop B was completely full when we arrived and Loop A had around 5 or 6 spots open. The camp host was very nice and stopped in to check on us about 30-45 minutes after we arrived. Each site had water and electric. Spots for the camper are asphalt and there is a picnic table, grill, fire pit and lantern post at each site. The campground was clean and well maintained. It was pretty quiet day and night, even though there were lots of families with small children and pets. We will definitely be back!

      Indian Creek Recreation Area

      BEAUTIFUL, AND FULL

This campground has just reopened Tuesday, after being closed due to "the virus ". Typically there's no problem getting a campsite during the week, but let me tell you, it's full here now! We are in site number 52. Water and electricity only. Bathrooms and showers are open , but not too clean. Our site is good sized and quite level. A concrete table is on site, as is a decent sized fireplace. Pet and kid friendly. There are boat launches and kayak loading areas at most sites. There is a small beach area for campers and a larger beach area open to the public. Hiking trails are a car ride from this site.

      Tunica Hills Campground

      Campground was great!

Ms. Brenda is the best! This campground has all the amenities! Hot water is tricky but the coffee pot makes up for it. There’s a microwave as well. Most of all the sites are separated by the ravines. We hiked down to the creek from the site and also went on trail C at tunica. I wouldn’t recommend trail c if you have small kids unless you wear them in a pack. Brenda has wood you can purchase if you forgot or run out. We were right next to the bathroom, sink, and shower.

    Guide to Mansura

The Mansura area of central Louisiana sits at approximately 65 feet above sea level in Avoyelles Parish. The region's subtropical climate creates hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional frost. Camping opportunities span from developed RV resorts to primitive sites along waterways with access to fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

    What to Do

Hiking trails: At Chicot State Park, campers can explore numerous pathways. "Miles of trails for hiking & biking. Even a paddle trail out on the lake," notes reviewer Mike V., who also mentioned the park has "scenic primitive campsites that you can hike to and/or paddle to."

Fishing spots: Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area offers fishing access with electric and water hookups for campers. "This is a tiny place. Rugged, but a good place to bring your boat and fish," explains a reviewer who mentions the 20-amp electrical service and abundant wildlife.

Paddle sports: Canoe and kayak opportunities abound across local waterways. "Beautiful lake, so quiet and peaceful," writes Michelle M. about Indian Creek Recreation Area, adding, "Great trails and fishing. Would definitely come back!"

Wildlife viewing: The region hosts diverse ecosystems with abundant wildlife. "Lots of wildlife to encounter so be prepared," advises Paula W. about primitive camping options. Expect to see various birds, deer, armadillos, raccoons and aquatic species.

    What Campers Like

Level campsites: Gator Grounds RV Resort offers well-maintained, level camping areas. As Josh B. describes, "It is incredibly clean and spots are all over level ground with gravel. Easy to book online."

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness varies by location but receives positive reviews at several parks. At Chicot State Park, one camper noted, "The bathrooms were recently updated so they were really nice. Also the laundry facilities were clean!"

Natural surroundings: The region's camping areas feature diverse ecosystems. David D. describes Tunica Hills Campground as having "amazing" terrain, adding "couldn't believe I was actually in Louisiana" due to its unique geography compared to the state's typical flat landscape.

Water recreation: Swimming, boating and fishing opportunities exist throughout the area. Trent A. shares that Gator Grounds offers "indoor water fun" that "kept the kids occupied," mentioning that despite cold weather they "even caught a couple fish!"

    What You Should Know

Weather considerations: The subtropical climate means preparation for various conditions. "Mosquitoes are not even those of us in South Louisiana say are normal," warns one camper about insect intensity at certain locations, particularly during warmer months.

Wildlife awareness: Local waterways host various species requiring awareness. "There is some alligators in the water. Lake is popular for fishing. Lots of birds here. Negatives are the wasps, ticks, and chiggers," reports Mike V. about Chicot State Park.

Varying amenities: Campgrounds range from primitive to full-service. At Richard K. Yancy Sand Levee Campground, Kera P. notes practical concerns: "lots of trash left around the area, there was a fire still burning unattended when we arrived, car/truck/tractor/boat traffic is noisy at all hours of the day and night, no water for drinking unless you can dip and filter from the creek nearby."

Reservation needs: Popular sites fill quickly, especially during weekends and holidays. "Stayed here in April and it was great. We came here specifically to do the town," shares one visitor about planning considerations.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Water activities: Gator Grounds RV Resort offers extensive water-based recreation. "Summer is awesome because of the outdoor AND indoor water park. Fall has been great because of the nice fire pits and we are now a huge fan of their Halloween celebration," writes Josh B.

Kid-friendly trails: Some parks offer accessible pathways suitable for children. Ali C. describes their experience: "Day 2 we rented a boat and paddled out for some fishing. The process was seamless and the staff friendly. The fishing pier was amazing and the kids loved how far out it went."

Playground access: Multiple locations feature play areas for children. Cat R. notes that Indian Creek Recreation Area has "a beautiful lake for kayaking, boating, and fishing. A nice playground area, a laundry facility, and shower room."

Holiday activities: Seasonal events provide additional entertainment. Josh B. shares that at Gator Grounds, "The camping spots really go all out in decorating for the kids. There was a costume contest and then a time for kids to visit all spots for candy."

    Tips from RVers

Site spacing: Various campgrounds offer different spacing between sites. Duncan G. shares about Paragon Casino Resort: "I was impressed with this place. They spared no expense in developing and maintaining this park...We had ample privacy."

Hookup options: Electric, water, and sewer connections vary by location. "This campground has large paved pull through sites with full hookups (electricity, water, and sewage)," notes Cheri H. about Paragon Casino Resort, adding there are "picnic tables, a playground, a swimming pool, a clubhouse and laundry facilities."

Dog-friendly campgrounds near Mansura: Most parks accommodate pets with varying restrictions. Gator Grounds RV Resort is pet-friendly with spacious sites, while Indian Creek Recreation Area welcomes dogs in designated areas. "Me, my wife and lil dog stayed a weekend on the primitive area in a tent," shares Rocky F. about their experience at Indian Creek.

Leveling requirements: Terrain varies across the region. Layla D. advises about specific sites at Indian Creek: "We have a 21' travel trailer and barely fit it and our Toyota Tundra in site 52...There was a pretty steep drop off from the concrete pad to the ground level forcing us to put our outdoor rug on the ground."
