Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Lafayette, LA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Lafayette KOA welcomes pets at their lakefront sites with spacious concrete pads and covered patios. Campers can bring dogs to all accommodation types, including RV sites and cozy cabins, with no additional pet fee. The campground maintains a small dog park where pets can exercise off-leash, while requiring leashes throughout the rest of the property. The campground layout includes sites around a fishing pond with walking paths ideal for dog walks. All pet-friendly campgrounds in the area, including Acadiana Park Campground, Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp, and Bayou Wilderness RV Resort, allow pets but enforce standard leash requirements for safety. Sites are clean and well-maintained, though some campers note the proximity to Interstate 10 creates ambient noise that might affect sensitive pets.

Hiking opportunities abound at Acadiana Park Campground, where miles of boardwalks and trails through jungle-like settings provide excellent pet exercise. The nature center connects to numerous paths where leashed dogs can explore alongside their owners. Cajun Palms RV Resort in Henderson offers pet-friendly cabins approximately 20 minutes from Lafayette, providing accommodation options beyond traditional tent or RV camping. During summer months, early morning or evening walks are recommended due to high Louisiana temperatures and humidity. Local veterinary services can be found within 15 minutes of most campgrounds, and nearby Billy's Cajun market is within walking distance of Lafayette KOA for pet owners needing supplies. Most campgrounds feature designated pet waste stations and enforce quiet hours to minimize barking disturbances.

    Acadiana Park Campground

    Great location

I stayed here in February 2025 for about 6 nights. It was very convenient and pleasant. Nice walking paths and a really interesting nature center. Not many amenities, but it's clean and quiet. They have a shower house that is not entirely reliable. BUT, still  well worth the time spent there as it's close to so much else in Lafayette itself and the surrounding region. Camping in Louisiana is sparse and very rustic, in general, so finding this well located spot was a huge bonus. I'm planning another stay in 2026. Hopefully the campground host,Jarod, is still there!

    Cypremort Point State Park Campground

    Its Aight

Its an aight spot to escape the city and not far from Lafayette. I like the grills and covered areas on the beach with the picnic tables. I don't like all the thick black oily mulch like substance in the water, its like quicksand and hard to swim in. This is not a tent camping area so I'm not sure why its listed as such, tents arent allowed here. The entrance fee is cheap.

    Lafayette KOA

    Clean, Great for Families

This was our first trip to Lafayette KOA and just our third time camping in our new-to-us travel trailer. My overall impression is that the park is very well maintained, has attentive staff and many activities. We didn’t care for how the sites were so close together. Luckily we didn’t have neighbors to the right of us. Because if we did, their cables and sewage hose would be right outside our door. We had our dog with us so the gravel wasn’t ideal. The tent sites were not located right next to the bathhouse. It’s not a horrible walk, but it’s a lot closer to the majority of the RV sites. They do have a set of restrooms right across from the tents though. We did a little fishing. The ponds were stocked. The water was clear so we could see them, but they were not dumb. We lost a lot of worms, and we only caught three tiny fish. We don’t have kids, but this would have been a great place to take your family. Activities include Mini golf ($), Kayaks ($), paddle boats ($), two pools, pool table in the game room, playground, and a small dog park. We had some strong winds the first night, and our awning ended up getting damaged. I called the front desk, and they sent out maintenance right away to help. The office has a shop with fishing supplies, groceries, RV supplies, and gifts. It’s conveniently located near a grocery store, gas stations, and fast food places. Billy’s Boudin was a quick walk away. There is noise from I-10 and from the nearby train tracks, but it’s not too bad. We’ll definitely be back, but would like to try a different site/area next time!

    Frog City RV Park

Nice clean facility with laundry and showers available.

Good location between Houston, Tx and Pensacola, Fl. Nice host and the sites are well maintained. Close to grocery and gas. Lots of pull through sites for longer rigs. Pool and playground for kiddies. Good size dog park as well. Sites are grass and gravel and are pretty level.

    Chases RV Park

    New management

Don’t let a former bad review chase (pun) you off from this campground. It’s clean and roomy with full hookups for $28 a night. The staff a friendly and helpful. It’s quiet, safe and has a new playground. We don’t have little kids and wish it were a dog park but realistic the world doesn’t revolve around us.

    Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp

    Great place

Short stay or long stay?? They are great for either. We stayed for 6 days. Loved the fishing. Love the site. Loved the people. We cannot wait to come back here. Sewer, electric, and water worked perfect. Dog park. Laundry was spotless. Crazy Cajuns get rowdy on weekends at the clubhouse. Join them you won’t regret it. If anything watch for amazing sunsets and sunrises!

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Breaux Bridge

    Super fun place to be

Our site was $63 a night for 5 nights & $79 for two nights. We got a weekly rate of $574.16

We were in Site# 2144 The check in was at 12pm and Check out is at 11am.
We had Full hook- up with a concrete pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.

The site was easy to level.

Our site was fairly shaded with one tree. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring.

It is an easy access to the campground from highway -(less than 1 mile from highway).

There is free WiFi. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen but do have quite a few community fire pits.
They sell wood but were out the entire week we were there.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent golf carts. It is beneficial to have a golf cart to get around since it is a large campground. They would not let us use our e-bikes around the campground.

They do have multiple swimming pools including a water playground and splash pad. There is a huge hot tub. We especially loved the 21+pool with swim up bar. Water Amenities are open from March 29th-October 26th. You can also rent poolside cabanas. They have a few smaller ponds for catch & release fishing.

They have a decent general store with some food, accessories, and clothes options.

There is a separate Activity Center for kids. There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like gem mining, tie dying, candle making, candy bar bingo, sand art, etc.

There is a Playground. They also offer pickleball, cornhole, and basketball sport court. There is a Game room for kids. They have a workout room for adults.

There are three bars (one serving food) and a separate concession stand that also serves food.

Right outside of the park is a delicious restaurant/fresh seafood market with a daiquiri drive thru (many flavors).

There is live music on site!

The streets are paved and good for riding bikes. There is not really anywhere to ride bikes outside of campground.

They have multiple RV slip options along with cabins/cottages/villas for rent. Tent camping is not allowed.

They have many shower houses. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a few laundry facilities. They allow you to use cash or credit card. It is approximately $2 to wash and $2to dry a load.

They have a fenced in dog park (Barkaritaville) with a dog wash. It is located in the back far corner of the park.

Bugs were a little bit of an issue and bug spray was definitely needed.

There were no trails to hike in the campground but the park is so huge, it is a great walk within itself.

We shopped at the local market outside of the park and the Piggly Wiggly. We went on the Cajun Food Tour and definitely recommend this (link on CM’s website).

    Palmetto Island State Park Campground

    Decent Spot

It's a decent spot for being nearby to Lafayette. The thing I don't like is the expensive prices for State Parks in Louisiana and the closed gates that don't allow late night entrance. Small man made pond in the back, watched a kid catch a large bass a few years back. The primitive hike in spots are on the back side of the pond so you have to hike in about a mile to rent camp for cheaper than the price of the RV pull up spots. This is a newer state park and it has nice, clean, large facilities with showers and bathrooms. The trail is super short. Overall the park is very small. Fun spot for kayak fishing. Noticed lots of invasive apple snails.

    Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp

    Love this location!

Beautiful grounds and very friendly people. Tons of activities for kids and adults! Pet friendly! And each site is set up great and all the grounds are clean!

Guide to Lafayette

Pet-friendly RV parks near Lafayette, Louisiana offer full hookups and sites near fishing ponds with convenient access to Cajun culture. The mild winters and humid summers make spring and fall ideal camping seasons. Several campgrounds have concrete or paved sites, while others feature gravel pads with room for both RVs and towing vehicles.

What to do

Fishing at stocked ponds: Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp maintains five fishing lakes where no license is required. As one camper noted, "They have 5 fishing lakes here and every spot is on the lake." The park also offers equipment rentals including golf carts and kayaks.

Explore Cajun food markets: Several campgrounds are located near authentic Cajun food sources. At Frog City RV Park, campers appreciate the proximity to local cuisine. One visitor mentioned, "Nice park. Lanes are labeled clearly, so our spot was super easy to find after hrs." The convenient location makes exploring local food markets accessible.

Visit nearby nature centers: Acadiana Park Campground offers access to extensive boardwalks and trails through natural areas. A recent visitor shared their experience: "We were here in February and it was lovely. Hardly anyone here. And the board walk and trails made for a really nice afternoon walk. There is a jungle-like feeling on the boardwalk and beautiful trees!"

What campers like

Spacious concrete sites: Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Breaux Bridge provides level concrete pads that accommodate larger rigs. One camper commented, "Concrete pads were very nice and I didn't hardly have to do much to level my camper." The campground is approximately 20 minutes from Lafayette.

Weekend entertainment: Many campgrounds offer scheduled activities and live music. A Camp Margaritaville visitor mentioned, "We will be back! Love the friendly family party vibe this campground has! Beautiful amenities. We were there outside of pool season but there were bands and activities every weekend!"

Swimming facilities: Multiple pools and water features are available at several campgrounds. According to one camper at Frog City RV Park, "Clean and spacious pull-thru. Heated pool. Nice folks run the park. Pretty quiet even though it's right off the I10." Many parks maintain swimming facilities year-round.

What you should know

Highway noise: Several campgrounds are located near major highways with noticeable traffic sound. A visitor to Lafayette KOA noted, "Would have given it five stars, but too close to the highway, so lots of road noise." Light sleepers should request sites furthest from roadways.

Water quality concerns: Some campgrounds have reported water issues. At Acadiana Park Campground, a camper warned, "The water, though, is disgusting! This is owned by the City of Lafayette. It seems like they would take care of this water situation! Something is not right with it."

Seasonal considerations: Louisiana humidity affects camping comfort throughout the year. Many campgrounds have limited shade, with one camper at Lafayette KOA cautioning, "Be careful though in picking your spots because some are in the way back and have no trees, which could be brutal in a Louisiana summer."

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Bayou Wilderness RV Campground offers facilities specifically designed for children. A visitor observed, "The pool is nice and there is a playground next to the pool." The playground is conveniently located near water activities for parental supervision.

Fishing for beginners: Stocked fishing ponds create opportunities for children to experience successful fishing. At Catfish Heaven Aqua Farm & RV Park, one visitor shared, "Done a lot of fishing out here since I was a child- great place to take kids, lots of fun!" Fishing ponds are maintained specifically for ease of catching.

Sports complex access: Some campgrounds offer proximity to sports facilities. A visitor to Acadian Oasis RV Park reported, "We visited for a softball tournament and the location is perfect, less than a mile from the complex. The park was well kept. There is a small fishing pond so bring a pole."

Tips from RVers

Sewer hose length: At Parkside RV Park, hookups may require extra equipment. One RVer advised, "You'll need a long sewer hose; the sewer hook ups are at the very back of the site." The paved sites are otherwise level and easily accessible.

Site selection strategy: When booking, consider specific site location within the campground. A Lafayette KOA visitor recommended, "Be careful though in picking your spots because some are in the way back and have no trees, which could be brutal in a Louisiana summer. Nice playground for kids, mini-golf, and clean laundry mat."

Self check-in options: Many dog friendly campgrounds near Lafayette offer after-hours arrival procedures. A Parkside RV Park camper shared, "I book this on my way through to San Diego. It was effortless and I was able to check in with no one in the office because they have an online check-in feature."
