Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Prospect, KY

Charlestown State Park Campground spans multiple loops with spacious pet-friendly sites on concrete pads. Both electric and full-hookup options accommodate tents, RVs, and cabin campers traveling with dogs. The campground maintains clean facilities with hiking trails accessible directly from camping areas where leashed pets can join their owners. Several hiking paths including Trail 2 with its waterfall and the historically significant Rose Island area permit dogs. Sites in the Paw Paw Loop (especially 143-154) offer more privacy and shade for campers with pets, with potable water stations nearby. The campground's layout provides enough space between sites to minimize pet interactions with neighboring campers.

Knobstone Trail and Jefferson Memorial Forest offer additional pet-friendly hiking opportunities near Prospect. Deam Lake State Recreation Area Campground and Louisville North Campground both accommodate pets with designated walking areas. Campers should note the significant distance from the Charlestown State Park entrance to the campground (over 2 miles), making quick trips in and out with pets less convenient. The park maintains several miles of paved roads ideal for dog walking, with waste stations available throughout the grounds. Most reviewers note the quietness of the campground as a major advantage when camping with dogs, though early morning maintenance activities like 6am lawn mowing might disturb sleeping pets. The Ohio River Greenway path provides a 7-mile one-way bike path accessible to visitors with leashed dogs looking for additional exercise options.

    Louisville South KOA

    Nice

There was lots to do at this KOA. There was corn hole, ladder ball, pool, walking trails, access to the river, cat fish pond, small dog park, and washers & dryers. You could bring your RV, travel trailer, tent camp, or rent a cabin. I’m sure I’m forgetting something. The spots were close together. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The park was clean and well maintained.

    Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet, bathrooms lacking.

We had a pretty decent time at Taylorsville Lake. The spots were spacious, and very nice picnic tables. We did a trail which was nice and went down to a boat ramp to see the lake. You can also rent boats there as well. The bathrooms in my opinion needed a major cleaning. They were nice just not very clean. We most likely won’t visit here again but was nice to hit a Kentucky campground. I have found that camping in Kentucky is much cheaper than in Indiana. Definitely worth a checkout.

    Elkhorn Creek RV Park

    Nice location, friendly staff

Make sure you take the exit they tell you & do NOT follow gps or you’ll go down a long country road. Nice little family owned campground on Elkhorn Creek. Convenient to Frankfort, Georgetown & Lexington. Waterfront sites available, many concrete sites & some gravel sites. From what I hear, they have made many improvements and continue to do so. I believe most sites are full hookup & they are building cute little pergolas on several sites. I had a long, gravel pull thru site. Barely any room on the camp side but both ends were roomy. Cute little general store & a very clean little laundry building w/a change machine. Fire rings on all sites that I saw. I believe there are 2 play areas for kids & a pool. There is a dog park w/a side for large dogs & small dogs. It was shaded and had seating. Convenient to several distilleries including Buffalo Trace & Woodford Reserve. There’s a place nearby that rents kayaks and canoes. They have entertainment & a food truck on weekends.

    Great place to stay

The staff are super helpful. The site we had was for a 38’ RV. Full hookups, dog park, lots of places to walk, even trails. We had a great stay here and will most likely come back next time we’re near Louisville.

    Buffalo Trace Park

    Great lake view

The sites are well-spaced and there’s a beautiful lake where you can kayak, canoe, fish, let your dog swim, etc. Disc golf is the big activity at this park. Awesome walking path and a petting zoo. The park is exceptionally clean. Sites on the lake view side are noisy due to traffic on the highway.

    Follow The River RV Resort

    Great stay

Very friendly staff. The bathrooms having regular working toilets and showers. The bathrooms are very nice. There is a pool, volleyball courts and a dog park. It is hot in June, so bring a canopy if your RV doesn’t have one.

    Scottsburg/Raintree Lake KOA

    Still developing

Owners are fantastic. They will get to a 5 as they continue their hard work making it an awesome place. New owners took over 4 months ago. They have many activities (was yogi bear till it was sold) put put, bowling, chess, volleyball, fishing. Dog park, Play ground was nicely done. Lake has lots of algae. Pool is brand new. It is by highway however, that did not bother us personally. I will visit again and would consider seasonal. Service id rate them a 5. Wonderful people and the place as much potential.

    Scottsburg/Raintree Lake KOA

    New Name “Camp Raintree Lake”

Gorgeous property with such kind and friendly owners. New owners that are making improvements to the property but it is so nice already.

The lake is GORGEOUS. Sites have mature trees, variety of singing birds. Really nice stay here as we were passing through. There is a sand volleyball net, gah gah ball, dog park, playground, mini golf (not ready for summer yet), and a new pool soon (concrete poured the other day).

Campground is a few miles from interstate and right off the highway so some highway noise but still a great picturesque place.

We will definitely stay here again if we are in the area .

    Love's RV Hookup-Leavenworth IN 839

    Last minute

Rest stops leading up to this RV spot were under construction. This was a last minute decision. It was late and I didn’t want to drive in the dark anymore. The price is HIGH. With discounts for goodsam and loves connect it was $50/night for 30 amp. The dog park at this loves is very nice and the spaces are okay. But it’s loud all night because it’s a truck stop. I like the idea of this for loves but the price needs to reflect it. $25/night. No one is staying longer than that and it’s a better deal.
