Quiet little campground

Nice long trail, friendly people, and a cute little ice cream shop that was a lifesaver after a long hike. Beautiful scenery, firewood available for $6 a bundle, water, electricity and fairly clean bathrooms with showers. We tent camped for $20 a night.

Private sites and good hiking

Had a pretty private site and most around us were empty. Great bird watching - saw a hummingbird within 20 minutes of arriving, orioles, a tanager and heard a wild turkey on the woods while we were there. Hiked the bluffs along the trail system at the south end of the park. Would gladly stay again.

Quiet, private sites, friendly host

If you want to spend a lot of your time just relaxing at camp, this is a great spot. Our site was huge, flat and private - no trouble finding flat ground to pitch the tent. It rained a lot, unfortunately, but the host stopped by and made sure we knew how to find the shower house for shelter if the…

On the border, IA and IL

Nice campground, with lots of sites, $10 or $20 with electric. Lots of trails, and the Mississippi River is across the road. If you come this way, be sure to check out the historic towns of Mount Carroll and Galena. I'd give this 5 stars, but the bathrooms are a bit dirty and have quite a few…

Great spring camping

We camped the last weekend in April and we loved it. The pad was uneven but we got our pup leveled out. We couldn't hike as much due to some hunting still going on but we made due. We will be back to this camp ground.

Hiking, biking, great views of mighty Mississippi

Enjoyed a week of beautiful nature. Had an RV with electric hookup, but had to drive to area for filling water tank and flushing the black and grey tanks. They had many nice areas for that so no waiting. They had very nice bath houses with shower stalls and toilets. I wish they had laundry and a…

Nice state park campground

Small state park with only 24 camper sites. This was nice having a smaller campground. Average size lots with decent wash house. Firewood available on site for a donation. Walking distance to the caves and hiking trails

Friendly, green scenery, a bit noisy

We stopped over for the night, and it was a good respite. They have mini-golf, a nice pool and a creative rugged play area for the kids. Unfortunately, the pool was closed for the evening cleaning, so we didn't get to use it. There was a beautiful wetland just down from the campground. It is right…

Lots of highway noise but convenient

Very standard rv spots feet from the highway. Hosts are very amicable. Perfect for what we needed, a quick stop on our drive across country. Appears to be lots of activities for kids/families during the day.

Quiet, clean, comfortable

Car camping in my Prius and wanted to stay in a non electric (ie tent) space for $12 but all the tent spaces didn’t seem to have anywhere flat to park. From what I could see, most of the nonelectric/tent were down at the bottom of slopes. Ended up paying the $18 and staying in a nice electric spot…

Always a must-do camping trip every summer.

Plenty of room! Multiple campsites along the canal. Very clean & well maintained. Boat ramp. Clean, well kept restrooms with Handicapped access & parking. Yes, there is mosquitoes. But if you want to fish right from your campsite, you gotta expect that! Theres some stagnant seaweed along…

Great views, clean campground!

So many great views! Tons of short, fun hikes to try out. Some sites are close together in open fields, but most are spread out and nice! Our site, 42, was a great tent site near the entrance but away from heavy traffic. Spacious and only one close neighbor. Will definitely be back!

Awesome for camping and trails

This has always been a nice and well maintained park. Although theres a small "lake" here, Ive never had great luck catching much. Pool is nice and updated. Park rangers are always frequently present and patrolling. This a great park for camping and walking trails.

Beautiful, peaceful, friendly and helpful.

Beautiful surroundings of shade trees. The cleanest restrooms and showers I have ever seen. Can’t wait to return to the new area for RV’s and 5th wheels! Full hookups AND so reasonable priced. Staff was very friendly and helpful especially after a summer cross wind storm went through and took…
