    Nice place but…

We enjoyed our stay. The facilities were clean but there were a few things that I wouldn’t mind seeing improved or changed. But none that would stop me from coming back.

The lake is fairly small they do not have a no wake rule or HP limit. So if you go out in a kayak or canoe and there is just one boat pulling a tube you should expect a rough day on the water.

Our site really could use to be refurbed with a more defined site boundary and picnic area.

Site 19 is a bit tight to back in but it’s doable.

    Brand New Park

This park is brand new, all utilities come with the rental fee and the place is secluded and off the main traffic in Appling County Ga.

Lake Mayers is less than 6 miles and the lake is beautiful, had a great time! I would highly recommend.

    Fun stay

Fun campground with many organized events. Currently, most sites are full-time campers. The current transient spots are a bit tight. The owner is very active in upgrading and improving his amazing business. My husband and I stayed for two weeks. During our stay, we ate several times at the restaurant, Fish Tales. Fantastic food and great environment. Staff is friendly and treats you like part of the family. The owner and manager were quite frequently seen running food, helping staff and campers. Daily food specials, entertainment several times a week, beautiful outside seating, pool area, two dog parks, showers/bathrooms and a huge expansion project to offer many more sites. I would absolutely stay here again!

    Just ok

It had rained quite a bit for days, so it was nasty. Sites too close together for my taste. Not much shade. We only stayed for one night, so we did not explore the place.

    Great stay

Easy on easy off. Very quiet, considering you’re right near the road.  Nice long pull through sites.  Very private sites with shrubs around your site.  Concrete slab for the motorhome to park on .Clean restrooms, hot showers. Very reasonable rates $62 a night.  we normally stay at the KOA down the road but we refuse to pay $118 for a graveled pull through site.

    Slice of the goodness

3/4s of the way through the 2nd winter with Patty and her crew. The campground is very well kept. All issues are addressed immediately. And the friendliest staff you could ask for. Events are planned several times a month. With a mix of full, part-time, and temporary guests all invited. Sites include water, electrical and sewer. Access to the campground is very easy, just off Hwy 1. This is definitely my 1st choice. We stayed November through March.

    Oak Hill RV Park

    No Frills RV Pasture

By no means is Oak Hill RV Park a campground destination, but if you’re hauling your mobile living room behind you and simply need a place to park for the night, then there could be worse places on the map to discover. Located just due south of the Georgia– Florida stateline, Oak Hill is situated midway between Boulogne (which, curiously, does not translate to Bologna in ANY language) and Andrews on Route 1 just a stone’s throw from a nice four line highway (read: you’ll be lulled to sleep each night by the swooshing of passing traffic).

As for the barren lot itself, while flat, it is also quite unimaginative with a singular pebble-strewn entranceway and ample barren non-marked lanes that are perfect for RV’s of all size. You’ll discover that the basic RV hook-ups (water, electric, waste), but that’s about where the amenities run out. OK, there is satellite TV, but that likely will cost you a bit extra. There’s even a country store on the premises, in the event that you need anything (although I would caution – they have but just the basics). The only other merit to this place is that there really are some gorgeous ancient Oaks completely drenched in Spanish moss, but that wears thin after about 10 minutes.

Insider’s tips? Apart from arriving late and departing early, if you are stuck in this spot for a bit of time, I’d recommend a quick jaunt to nearby Hampton Lake for some (just OK) fresh water fishing. If you’ve got more time though, I would highly recommend getting on St. Mary’s River (a great access point, BTW, is St. Mary’s River Fishcamp (yes, spelled in 1 word) & Campground, which I have also reviewed) for some fairly decent fishing.

    Happy Camping!

    Weekend Beach Trip

Went for a quick beach trip. When we arrived and went into the entrance side of the drive we were met with signs saying for RVs to go left and workers to go right. The entrance was a parking lot for the restaurant in front and there was a sign saying RVs were not to go past a certain point (not to go right in front of the restaurant basically) and to follow yellow arrows to the sites. The problem was we were pulli mg a 40 ft travel trailer and had to turn into an parking lot full of cars in both sides with barely enough room to actually make the turn without hitting the cars. We had to stop and get out to evaluate our ability to actually get through. My husband made it but had to back up and reposition in order to get through. The rest of the roads were very narrow as well and the other RVs were very close to the road on both sides due to the small size of the sites. When leaving we were unable to actually turn our trailer to actually go the correct way out of the park (and we weren’t the only ones unable to do so). The sites need more gravel and there needs to actually be a clear area to actually have a seating area. Additionally this campground appears to have a large amount of full timers/locals who reside there. The bath house and laundry were nice. We did enjoy the pool and my kids enjoyed playing on the swing set. It was convenient to have an on-site restaurant. There was a designated dog park but it was in a low lying area which was very wet and muddy so we didn’t use it. The pluses for this campground did not make up for the limitations of site size and maneuverability in my opinion. We have stayed at both Blythe Island Campground and Coastal Georgia RV park which are nearby and would prefer either of those over this one.

    Do better

We have always loved staying here and have never had a problem and everything was good this time except for the bathhouse. The whole time we stayed it was not cleaned up at all. I raved to my friends that it was a nice clean bathhouse and was embarrassed at the condition it was kept during my stay.

    Kelly's Countryside RV Park

Convenient Kelly’s Corner Caravan Camping Cornucopia

Located just due south (approximately 10 miles) of the Georgia / Florida state-line and due south of Hillard – this respite is only 25 miles from Amelia Island and a 30 minute drive south to Jacksonville – Kelly’s Countryside RV Park is a full-service pitstop for those hauling their mobile living arrangements around. While a decent bit off the beaten path (that would be I95), if you’re looking for some good ol’ Southern charm, peace & quiet and some decent fishing and boating, then you’ve landed in a good spot of the country.

Kelly offers up daily ($38), weekly ($228) and monthly ($442) rates that come with all the traditional hook-ups (water, 30 / 50 amp electric and sewer) and all the free WiFi your personal device can handle (although I would warn that the strength is quite weak, so you won’t be able to stream or doing anything too fast-loading). There’s bathrooms and showers (fairly clean BTW), dumpsters, storage and even electric heaters for rent on-site, but there is no cable or satellite. Other amenities and features include: nice black pebble-strewn flat roadways, laundr-O-mat.

Net-net though, this place feels more of a spot for part-time (2 month+) or full-time residents. Sure, there were plenty of vacant slots available, but the community that is here has been around for a while and know each other quite well (although were very welcoming). Overall, while this place is nicely laid out, it also feels like they are packing in RV’s so tight that you can reach out and touch (or hear) your neighbor.

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) This place is not a destination, but rather a convenient layover, so biggest advice would be to arrive late and leave early; (2) Looking for a proper ‘watering hole’ and maybe even some nice live music? Then I highly recommend King’s Bar & Treehouse Lounge, just a smidge north of Kelly’s on good ol’ Hwy 23 (properly named after the greatest basketball player of all time, no doubt) and open till 2am every morning; (3) If you’re planning to get your boat, kayak or canoe wet, I highly recommend heading back towards the GA/FL line and drop her in St. Mary’s River or Hampton Lake – either will allow you to fetch some decent catch; and (4) Should you grow tired of frying up hot dogs and beans fireside, head on over to Callahan’s BBQ (just 7 miles north of Kelly’s), which is a main staple of the nearest town – order the twisted nuggets.

    Happy Camping!

    Gators

The campground is a real gem. It's beautiful!

Many nice sites that look like camping in the jungle. Water & electric sites. Some are small- more like tent sites.

Sites- 1-25 seem larger. you could get a bigger rig into them.

    Sites 26-58 seemed smaller.

Site 39 was very small. tent only.

Sites 59-64 are pull throughs. The rest are back in.

We had site 41 which was plenty big for us. It was also near the bathroom.

If you like being close to the facilities, 40/41/42 are the spots to choose.

There's 2 comfort stations. The bathroom/showers are individual units. They were very clean for a state park in the swamp!

It was buggy & we were there the end of April.

Thursday night was dead quiet, but the weekend was busy.

The dump station has only one dump.

This is a small state park- only 120 acres, but camping here is definitely worthwhile.

    Great park

Great Park, some of the sites are a challenge to back into. With us being with limited experience some are a challenge to get into. The park is always very clean (our second time here) and never very crowded. We were here in March of last year and last of April and early May. Let’s say March is a lot better due to the yellow flies, mosquitoes and horse flies bothersome this trip. We took the guided tour last year and enjoyed it very much. Also this is a very quite campground just be sure your stocked the necessities since the nearest store is app 18 miles away. When we come back it will be February/March. Hope this review helps.

    Base camp for sightseeing

This makes a good base camp for sightseeing Jekyll Island and Brunswick, close to both. It appears to be used heavily by snowbirds on the I-95 corridor. PROS: Clean, well maintained, nearby fuel and grocery. CON: truck noise from I-95 all night. Looks like a trailer park.

    Blythe Island is great

Really nice campground. Is quiet, clean and great location. We spent 4 days here and it’s a short drive to historic downtown Brunswick, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island. So much to do.
Campground has bike and hiking trails, a freshwater lake for fishing and swimming, and a marina for those who may bring a boat to go saltwater fishing. All campsites are shaded and well equipped. Will definitely be back!
