Boaters and anglers find direct water access at Torry Island Campground, where sites back up to canals connecting to Lake Okeechobee. The county-operated facility accommodates RVs up to 35 feet with full hookups, plus tent camping and walk-in options across grassy sites.
The campground operates behind a security gate requiring keycard access, creating a community atmosphere among long-term residents and regular visitors. Jeanene A. notes "what a way to start the day, right on the water" after fishing from her site. Evening insecticide fogging helps control bugs during warmer months, though campers should expect some noise from airboats using the main canal, particularly during tour operations.
A nature trail with observation deck winds through the property, offering wildlife viewing opportunities among the abundant bird population. The on-site boat ramp provides lake access, while a bait and tackle shop serves fishing needs. Some waterfront sites allow campers to bring boats directly to shore. The campground hosts seasonal festivals, including the Black Gold Jubilee celebrating the area's agricultural heritage.
Roadways within the park run narrow with limited turnaround space at dead ends. Larger RVs often position their front ends near roadway edges, and tow vehicles typically park beside campers rather than behind them. Napunani found "bathhouse was clean and water was hot" in the climate-controlled individual shower rooms. Power outages occasionally affect the facility. WiFi signal remains weak throughout the property.
For a different lakeside experience, Pahokee Beach RV Resort sits eight miles north along the lake's eastern shore.
