Within J. W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area, Little Gopher provides free primitive camping accessed by a 4.3-mile hike from parking lot N. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission maintains this hike-in site along the Ocean to Lake trail, where the Florida Trail Association's Lox chapter keeps facilities in good condition.
The single large site accommodates multiple tents and hammock setups, centered around a fire pit with four wooden benches and two poles for hanging gear. Firewood is available in the surrounding area. Water must be carried in or obtained from Big Gopher canal 0.2 miles west, though campers should filter any natural water sources and watch for alligators. Cell service reaches the site sporadically, and visitors should check hunting seasons before planning trips.
Description
Camping is permitted during certain times of the year and only in designated campsites, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For information on when and where camping is allowed, consult the regulations summary brochure. See the J.W. Corbett WMA Recreation Guide for campsite locations.
