    BASECAMP 550

    Great Location and Atmosphere

We had an amazing stay at Basecamp 550. The campground’s location is perfect, with easy access to Ouray, Montrose, Telluride, and other nearby areas. The amenities were excellent, including quarter-operated hot showers and laundry, restrooms, Wi-Fi, full hookups, and a clubhouse with coffee + tea, kitchen access, and a great workspace. Our site had a beautiful view and was right next to a ranch where cows would come right up to the fence. The communal fire pit was a nice touch, and the private, fenced-in setting made us feel safe and comfortable. They also offer glamping tents and casitas on the property. Highly recommend!

    Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch

    Clean, Busy, Tight, Well Maintained

I stayed here throughout the summer in 2024. It is a great place to explore from into the many surrounding popular locations. Gunnison is 25 minutes out, Crested Butte an hour, Ouray, Silverton, Lake City, Arkansas River Wilderness all an hour to 90 minutes away. Many hiking trails in the National Forrest's are just a few minutes away. World Class fishing in the Gunnison River as well as Blue Mesa Reservoir. These are a few of the Pro's of this Thousand Trails Campground. The back in sites are fairly level. Some need a wedge level to bring your rig closer to level. Class A's have no issues backing into spots. 50-30-15 Amp, Sewer and Water at the majority of the spots. I stayed in the upper section and had no problem getting a reservation, even on busier weekends.

The dig is that you will be backed up and beside other campers. By this, I mean their rigs will be within 20 feet of you. Sipping coffee, you will be able to have a conversation in a low voice with your camping neighbors. Not a big deal for me, I am a friendly and generous neighbor. Heck, I even share the fish I catch with those that do not have a Kayak or fishing gear. There is no Cellular service at this Campground. They have Wi-Fi, but I cannot attest to its strength or reliability; I use Starlink. They have Laundry at $2 a load for wash and $2 a load for dry. A small swimming pool that closes at 8. Bathrooms with showers that are cleaned daily. A nice paved road throughout.

I use this Campground to explore and enjoy hiking, fishing and 4WD into remote areas near hear. I can stay 21 days, out 7 and right back for another 21 if I desire. I disperse camp and come back to do laundry, rinse tanks, resupply fresh water tank. Gunnison has a Safeway, Local Grocery and Walmart. The Walmart is not a super store and has very little in the way of groceries. Local Grocers and Safeway are your better choice for food.

Montrose is an hour away. However, Hwy 50 is down to one lane once in the morning and once in the evening due to bridge repairs. You cannot pull a trailer across the bridge at any times. Towing, you are required to use County Road 26 detour. It also has a pilot car guide and at only a few times a day. It is almost 2 hour detour. Check with Colorado Dept. Transportation for info.

    Oasis RV Resort

    Basic Full Hook-Up

Stayed in this Campground for 3 nights. It’s noisy and dusty from all the traffic and ATV-Off-Road vehicle traffic. The posted speed limit is 5 mph. Non of the off road vehicles observe or are made to adhere. The utility hook ups were in need of repair. The back in spots are split between you and another. I had a great view of the manufactured homes deck as well as the smoke from their cigarettes as they drank beer all day. There are permanent residents as well as seasonal regulars in the campground. Their cluttered possessions scattered strong their places. I will not stay here again. It was only a place to dump and refill water tanks, do laundry and prepare to resume dispersed camping in the surrounding BLM & NFS areas. Was on the expensive side for the fees.

The Last Resort RV Park & Campground

    Excellent private campground for tenting

We enjoy tenting in relatively primitive national forests and usually avoid private campgrounds. But our friends recommended Last Resort on the River, and we were pleasantly surprised. The tent sites are separated from the RV sites in a forested area along the river. We shared a campsite on the river that had lots of trees and plenty of room for two tents and a canopy. Several other tent sites are carved out of the brush along the river. This makes a very nice setting with lots of privacy. The sound of the river is soothing and there was very little sound from the road.

It was a short walk to the amenities of the campground. There is a picnic shelter where we sat out a rainstorm, a very nice bathhouse for showering and washing dishes, as well as a comfortable indoor sitting area and another outdoor area with chairs and a fire pit. Ice and firewood are available at the office. Rich delivered them to our site. There are also some ice cream treats there and a few snacks. There is a fishing pond and a volleyball court. The rabbit hutch would have entertained the kids, if we had any with us.

There is no cell service, but the wifi was excellent and reached our campsite on the river. My wife was able to participate in a Zoom meeting from the picnic shelter where there was a convenient electrical outlet for her computer.

Rich is continually upgrading the property. He was very responsive and always willing to help. We highly recommend this campground.

    Owner was rude and unprofessional

We just got home from a 3 night stay. The resort was clean and Linda was very nice in checking us in. Friday night however I assume it was Allen that was very rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. We were sitting by the fire pit with friends. After having to find the firewood and build the fire ourselves. (The owners are supposed to do it nightly). Our friends had their dog leashed and laying under their chair. Apparently dogs aren't ok in the fire pit area. You can see from the attached photo this is not clear at all. Either way we were the only ones there and the dog was not hurting anything. Suddenly this man comes in, brings a sign with him that says no dogs on the grass, holds it up in front of us and loudly says "Can't you read?!". We promptly apologized for the misunderstanding and our friend took the dog to the camper. I can only assume this was Allen because he did not introduce himself or tell us who he was in any way. Just rudely insulted us and then proceeded to tell us he wanted us to leave right now. Well it was late, dark and we paid for our space and had no intention of leaving. The next night the fire pit had plywood covering it saying it was closed. So we could not enjoy a fire on our last night there. If this was Allen, he was rude, unprofessional and insulting. Nobody deserves to be treated that way, much less paying customers who were doing nothing wrong other than possibly misunderstanding the misleading signage. We will not be back and would not recommend! As a business owner myself I know how to treat customers and this isn't it!

    Beautiful Mountain Views

We stayed at this campground for 3 nights over the 4th of July holiday.  The location is excellent and has beautiful views of the mountains surrounding it.  Town is close by and you can walk to it via the river walk that runs alongside the RV park.  You can watch the fireworks right from the campground.  The staff were extremely kind and helpful.  The bathrooms were clean and the showers looked ok but we never used them so I can't say anymore about them. The campground is dog friendly.  The downside is the sites are very close together.  Some of  the sites are a little larger so you would have a little more space.  We had a picnic table and electric, sewer and water hookups.  We had a river side site but we couldn't actually see the river due to the large berm behind the camper.  We were able to use our gas fire pit so it was no big deal that they don't allow wood fires.  They do rent gas firepits if you don't have one.  All in all this was a nice campground.  I would recommend it.

    Great cozy place for families

We had a great stay in a cabin for our little family and a tent for our other family party. Near each other and close to the bathrooms and playground. Kids loved the playground and jump pad! Close by to Ouray for great SXS and off-road trails. Must tow there with trailer. Beautiful scenery.

Great Views of Blue Mesa Lake

The owners and family are great.  Very friendly, helpful and area information. Seems to be a community stopping place as there are so few places to get supplies.  The campground is very convenient location for the lake and rivers.  Nice service of coffee and a few microwaved food options. It has a nice game room also.  The views are great as the layout of the campground is terraced on a hillside.  The sites are all parallel park so your door can have a view of the lake.  The owner helps you get situated into the spot.  The parking is gravel and level.  But there is not much space between nose to tail other campers.

    There are better options

The facilities are ran down and poorly maintained, the camp manager has made several campers relocate their rigs to accommodate large groups that wanted to be next to each other.

Good. There are trees and mountains, lakes ,and trails.

The campsites are level and easy to get to.  Most face the two stocked lakes. Near lake city and all the fun activities that the area has to offer. Wildlife, trails, and 4 wheeling. Fishing on site or go ask Dan at his fly shop for nearby streams and lake.  Bathrooms and laundry were clean. There are cabins but did not see inside.

Black Canyon RV Park & Campground

    Quiet & simple campground

Overall, our family enjoyed our stay. We reserved a campsite for our 31' travel trailer at the end of May. The location was beautiful and though it was right off of the highway, we felt very safe and the campground was quiet. The staff were very friendly, however, it was difficult to access them since the office was usually closed and unless you saw them working out in the campground you didn't know where to go to find someone. The grounds were very well kept, clean laundry, shower, bathroom facilities. The only issue we had with the campsite was that there wasn't alot of gravel so when it rained our site got very muddy. RV rugs were not allowed so we ended up tracking alot of mud into our camper. Be sure to bring quarters for the laundry, there is no quarter machine and since the staff can be difficult to locate I didn't have an opportunity to ask if they have any to exchange. Close to Montrose and Black Canyons of the Gunnison National Park, easy access to these and highly recommend checking them out if you stay here!
