    Ouray KOA

    Heaven in the mountains

Wow is all I can say! After surviving towing the airstream up Red Mountain pass, we pulled into the KOA and couldn’t be more happy. Our site backed up to a stream that sounded wonderful with running water. Each site has a picnic table and a combo fire ring/grill. They even welcome you with three large fire logs! They now offer horseback riding right from inside the KOA. They have everything from teepees to tent, cabin and RV camping. A great restaurant on site with a well stocked store and laundry facilities. This place is really well run. The only complaint is the WiFi, which is non existent, however, they are currently working on that and should have campwide WiFi by summer.

The Last Resort RV Park & Campground

Beautiful views and a relaxing environment.

The Last Resort is a lovely RV Park and campground on the Blanco River off Highway 84 between Chama, New Mexico and Pagosa Springs, Colorado. There are full RV hook ups in the loop and partial hook up by the river. The Bunk House is a small cabin with a queen bed and electricity. Many great tent camping sites. There is a nice Bathhouse with a full kitchen, bathrooms with showers and a coin operated washer/dryer. They are open year round, free wifi and pets welcome. There is a small store with ice, sodas, snacks, fishing tackle, RV supplies, and toiletries.

This is our 3rd summer at the Last Resort. It's a very laid back place with 2 playgrounds and plenty of activities for kids - horse shoes, volleyball, tether ball, etc. They have a nice 4th of July celebration, potluck dinners and camp fires. There are often horses (and a goat) on the property and plenty of space to take a nice walk. This year, we saw a lot of Canada geese and there are also chickens and ducks. We really love watching the many hummingbirds and hanging out by the river. Lots of campers like to fish or float down the river on inner tubes.

Well maintained, beautiful and friendly hosts make for a wonderful place to stay.

    Elkhorn RV Resort

    Great spot in Lake City

This is our first visit to Lake City so I've nothing to compare it to, but I loved this RVPark. Linda was gracious and accommodating. Bathrooms were spotless AND warm. We are at tail end of season so the park was not full at all, but even if it had been there are tables and trees between each site keeping from feeling claustrophobic. We drove past the other RV Park in town - on Henson Creek - you are on the river, but also on the highway and it was packed in. Elk Horn is off the highway nestled against the mountain, and just 4 block walk to "down town" Lake City. Highly recommend this spot. Call to make reservations. Linda gets right back to you. We also stayed on one of the cabins to give kids more trailer room. You provide the top bedding, but there was a queen bed and a bunk (so 4 could sleep easy). No bathrooms in the cabin but your close to the bathrooms.

    Ouray Riverside Resort

    Beautiful Ouray

Nestled in a valley with beautiful view next to Uncompahgre River with wonderful walking path. Gravel parking right off hwy 550. Laundry, showers, restaurant. Primitive cabins and fully equipped cabins. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Close to uptown shopping and eating & grocery store. Pull thru and back in sites. Overflow parking for extra vehicles for a charge. Down side-you have to trailer to trailheads for SXS riding. Most tail heads are small parking areas but the riding in the mountains is priceless. Been here twice, same site and would go again.

South Fork Lodge & RV Park

Gravel pit, no bathroom, no amenities, ATV heavy

This is been one of my least favorite spots to stay thus far. This park has no bathrooms, no laundry, no fire pits… Nothing but a picnic table. It is fully gravel, sites weren’t level, and very loud early mornings with all of the ATV activity. I think it is far too expensive for the stay. The staff is nice, and it’s family owned—but everything else, including the location pretty much sucked. I really think it’s worth it to find another park around the area to stay.

We had full hook ups. WiFi didn’t work and no Phone service.

    Fitton Guard Station Cabin

    Proposal Spot

I proposed to my fiancé here. You can hike or OHV about a mile to the old ranger cabin in the bowl of a green valley. Cattle graze around the cabin and marmots dig around. The cabin is filled with four bunks beds, a good wood stove, and oil, paper towels, and bottles of stream water for boiling, all left by previous campers. There's a fire ring and makeshift bench outside, and the whole thing is ringed by a wooden fence. Worth the price, a very peaceful place.

    Ouray KOA

Best spot for tent, RV, & cabin!

The spots are spread out enough that you have privacy, there’s attendants around 24 hours of the day to help, and it’s hands down the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed. We rented a cabin (we stopped in on July 4th, sold out of tent spots) but they managed to accommodate us last minute. The staff is incredibly nice, and the price was right. Our cabin is the 2nd biggest option, it included: a queen, bunk beds, love seat, fridge, sink, and a microwave.

    Little Molas Lake Campground

Busy campground on the Colorado Trail

Nice little campground on the Million Dollar Highway heading between Durango and Silverton, with the Colorado Trail passing right through the campground. There is a main road with sites spread out over a few close ridges, and a small loop that ends in at the day use parking and vault toilet. It seemed that the “group” sites were closest to the vault toilets next to the day use parking, which could present an issue as it was very busy. The “group” sites were very crowded, which could have been just too many people in a small area, or the area could have been just too small.  Sites further away from the toilets were more spacious, but no site was huge. All sites seemed to have good hammocking trees. It seemed the best sites were the ones closest to the entrance: the parking pads were up next to the road and the tent pads and fire rings were set back from the road down a steepish grade. This was a great spot to camp as a home base for hiking the Colorado Trail. There are great trails heading out of the campground in both directions. The usual picnic tables and fire pits could be found at all sites we looked at.

Guide to City of Creede

Cabin accommodations near City of Creede, Colorado sit at elevations between 8,000-9,000 feet where summers bring mild temperatures averaging 75°F and cool nights dropping into the 40s. The region operates on a distinct seasonal schedule with most cabin rentals available from May through October, coinciding with peak fishing season on the Rio Grande. Winter closures are common as heavy snowfall makes access difficult.

What to do

Fishing access: Riverbend Resort provides 3/4 mile of private river frontage stocked with rainbow trout. Guests can walk directly from cabins to prime fishing spots. "Start your Colorado Fly Fishing vacation right outside your door with 3/4 miles of private river frontage stocked with trophy-sized rainbow trout, plus may other nearby streams and lakes," notes Ashley F.

Hiking trails: Bristol Mountain RV Park and Cabins offers direct trail access via a bridge near the property. "We did show up a little early in the year and the restaurant at the campground was closed. Kids area, river, bridge to trails super close, etc… My wife and I with a 4 year old and 1 year old went hiking right next to the park and had an amazing experience," reports Damon R.

ATV routes: South Fork Campground serves as a convenient base for ATV enthusiasts with multiple access points to mountain trails. "South Fork is on the East side of Wolf Creek Pass, which is a beautiful, steep, drive. The best part about the area is the ample amount of fishing. This area is an anglers dream, reservoirs in every corner of the map with the Rio Grande at your fingertips," shares Sarah F.

What campers like

Riverside locations: Many cabin guests specifically request waterfront units where the sound of the river enhances the experience. "Spots right on the river are pure bliss. Full hookups and the sound of the Rio Grande to lull you to sleep. How great is that?" explains a South Fork Campground visitor.

Mountain views: Grandview Cabins and RV provides panoramic vistas from most cabin sites. "So welcoming upon our arrival. Quite, clean and beautiful setting," reports Melissa Z. The elevated positioning offers unobstructed views of surrounding mountain ranges.

Pet-friendly policies: Most cabin providers accommodate pets but have specific guidelines. "The RV park is extremely quiet and pet friendly. We extremely enjoyed our three day stay. We have already started planning for a return trip. They also have cabins for people to stay in it, traveling without their RV/tent," notes Angela R.

What you should know

Connectivity limitations: Cell service and WiFi are inconsistent throughout the region. "Absolutely stunning, however this is a dead zone! No service, no wifi like 0% nothing worked!" warns a Riverbend Resort guest. Offline entertainment options are recommended.

Seasonal opening dates: Many properties have variable opening dates depending on weather conditions. Most operate from mid-May through October, though some open earlier when conditions permit.

Cabin amenity variations: Kitchen facilities range from basic to comprehensive. Some include only mini-refrigerators while others offer full cooking capabilities. Bathroom configurations also vary widely between properties.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Chinook Cabins & RV Park offers specific amenities for children. "We have stayed here on a few occasions and have loved it every time. The cabins are nice but definitely not luxurious. Kids can ride bikes around the property. There is a basketball hoop and tether ball," shares Kris M.

Space considerations: Cabins vary significantly in size and sleeping capacity. Families should confirm exact bed configurations before booking as some advertised "sleeps 4" units may include sofa beds or bunk arrangements.

Supply planning: Most cabins require guests to bring linens, towels, and basic toiletries. Small general stores exist in South Fork but selection is limited. Stock up on essentials before arrival.
