    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Cabin options near Silverton provide a mix of accommodations ranging from basic to deluxe. Little Molas Lake Campground offers cabin rentals in a scenic mountain setting at 10,300 feet elevation, while Silverton Lakes RV Resort provides cabin accommodations closer to town. Most cabins include electric hookups, heating systems for colder mountain nights, and basic furnishings. The Red Mountain Motel & RV Park features cabins with full utilities and indoor plumbing. Ouray KOA Holiday, located about 30 minutes from Silverton, offers cabin rentals with more amenities than most forest service options. A visitor commented that "the restroom facilities are very nice, new and modern" at Red Mountain's cabin area.

Rustic log cabins and KOA-style cabins represent the primary accommodation types in the region. KOA properties in Ouray and Ridgway offer standardized cabin layouts with predictable amenities, while independent operations like Red Mountain Motel provide unique cabin configurations. Most locations require advance reservations, especially during summer months when tourism peaks. Pet policies vary by property, with many allowing pets for an additional fee. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, cabin sites at Silverton Lakes RV Resort operate seasonally, "closing September 29 for the season," making advance planning essential for fall visits.

Cabin guests should plan to bring bedding, pillows, and cooking supplies as these items are not typically provided. Ouray KOA and Ridgway State Park cabins include beds but require visitors to bring linens and towels. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between properties, with some offering only outdoor fire rings and others providing indoor kitchenettes with refrigerators and microwaves. Most campgrounds with cabins have on-site stores selling firewood and basic supplies. The 4J+1+1 RV Park includes market facilities for guests staying in their cabin units. Restroom and shower access depends on cabin type, with KOA properties generally offering the most complete bathroom facilities near their cabin accommodations.

      Ouray KOA

      Heaven in the mountains

Wow is all I can say! After surviving towing the airstream up Red Mountain pass, we pulled into the KOA and couldn’t be more happy. Our site backed up to a stream that sounded wonderful with running water. Each site has a picnic table and a combo fire ring/grill. They even welcome you with three large fire logs! They now offer horseback riding right from inside the KOA. They have everything from teepees to tent, cabin and RV camping. A great restaurant on site with a well stocked store and laundry facilities. This place is really well run. The only complaint is the WiFi, which is non existent, however, they are currently working on that and should have campwide WiFi by summer.

      Durango North-Riverside KOA

      Clean KOA

RV sites, some tent sites and cabins. Cabins have a single and a bunk, power, porch light, picnic tables and firepit. Office has firewood. Bathrooms are stall, showers are stall/ curtained. Camp was clean and well kept. We brought a small grill and scavenged rocks to set it on; ate like kings. Great views of star as from this elevation.

      Elkhorn RV Resort

      Great spot in Lake City

This is our first visit to Lake City so I've nothing to compare it to, but I loved this RVPark. Linda was gracious and accommodating. Bathrooms were spotless AND warm. We are at tail end of season so the park was not full at all, but even if it had been there are tables and trees between each site keeping from feeling claustrophobic. We drove past the other RV Park in town - on Henson Creek - you are on the river, but also on the highway and it was packed in. Elk Horn is off the highway nestled against the mountain, and just 4 block walk to "down town" Lake City. Highly recommend this spot. Call to make reservations. Linda gets right back to you. We also stayed on one of the cabins to give kids more trailer room. You provide the top bedding, but there was a queen bed and a bunk (so 4 could sleep easy). No bathrooms in the cabin but your close to the bathrooms.

Yurt Camping, yes dogs are allowed

In addition to plenty of tent and RV sites, Ridgeway SP also has three heated and furnished yurts for those seeking an enhanced comfort level. Each unit includes a fridge, futon type beds, dinner table and chairs. Bring your fishing poles, hiking shoes, water craft and dogs, cause they're all allowed.

      Ouray Riverside Resort

      Beautiful Ouray

Nestled in a valley with beautiful view next to Uncompahgre River with wonderful walking path. Gravel parking right off hwy 550. Laundry, showers, restaurant. Primitive cabins and fully equipped cabins. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Close to uptown shopping and eating & grocery store. Pull thru and back in sites. Overflow parking for extra vehicles for a charge. Down side-you have to trailer to trailheads for SXS riding. Most tail heads are small parking areas but the riding in the mountains is priceless. Been here twice, same site and would go again.

Priest Gulch Campground and RV Park Cabins and Lodge

      Perfection at Priest Gulch

Priest Gulch Campground is a privately owned campground/RV park. They have 98 RV sites with full hookups along with tent spaces and 8 cabins available for rent. They also offer free firewood, shower facilities, and laundry along with a camp store. The property is immaculately maintained and all the hosts are kind, warm, and helpful. The RV spaces are quite close together, but there are no generators and the camp strictly enforced quiet hours. We found it to be extremely calm and relaxing with our spot right on the Animas River.

      Durango RV Resort

Oasis RV Resort - Check Satellite View

Very nice RV / Cabin / Tent resort in Durango, CO. Full service, laundry facilities, pickleball court, grills in the public area, pool during summer months. We chose a mountain view site, which does have lovely views, but the reason for the review title is it is directly above the freeway and we needed earplugs for the traffic noise. Amending to note it is a very well-maintained RV=tent/cabin park, clean restrooms, clearly marked laundry, friendly staff.

      Little Molas Lake Campground

Busy campground on the Colorado Trail

Nice little campground on the Million Dollar Highway heading between Durango and Silverton, with the Colorado Trail passing right through the campground. There is a main road with sites spread out over a few close ridges, and a small loop that ends in at the day use parking and vault toilet. It seemed that the “group” sites were closest to the vault toilets next to the day use parking, which could present an issue as it was very busy. The “group” sites were very crowded, which could have been just too many people in a small area, or the area could have been just too small.  Sites further away from the toilets were more spacious, but no site was huge. All sites seemed to have good hammocking trees. It seemed the best sites were the ones closest to the entrance: the parking pads were up next to the road and the tent pads and fire rings were set back from the road down a steepish grade. This was a great spot to camp as a home base for hiking the Colorado Trail. There are great trails heading out of the campground in both directions. The usual picnic tables and fire pits could be found at all sites we looked at.

Dakota Terraces Campground — Ridgway State Park

      Awesome Winter Spot

My wife and I stayed here in March of 2022. The campground was awesome and there didn’t seem to be a bad spot in the entire loop. Good views of the San Juan Mountains to the south! Power hook-ups were nice, but no water hook-ups during “winter” months. With that said, there was community spigots located near the campsites that were still on if you need to top off your fresh water tanks. The dump station was also nice, but no running water there during the winter either.

The location of this place was perfect for us as we were there for skiing; One hour from Telluride, one hour from Silverton, and only 30 minutes from the Red Mountain backcountry skiing area.

Ridgway Colorado is only a few miles down the road if you need gas or supplies, and Ouray is just past that if you’re looking for great restaurants and breweries.

    Guide to Silverton

Winter temperatures frequently drop below freezing, while summer highs rarely exceed 80°F. Most rental cabins in the San Juan Mountains region have limited availability from late May through early October, with several properties closing by late September.

Train viewing: Cabin accommodations at Red Mountain Motel & RV Park position visitors to witness the historic Durango-Silverton narrow gauge railroad. "The campground has a train that comes in from Durango once a day. It's fun to watch and the mountain with the bridle vail waterfall," reports camper don D.

River activities: Many Silverton-area cabin rentals provide access to mountain waterways. At Ouray Riverside Resort, cabin guests appreciate "the river walk into town is so beautiful!" according to Kelsey C., making water access convenient for fishing or shoreline exploration.

    What campers like

Connectivity issues: Work-from-cabin visitors should note internet limitations. Kevin G. reported at Red Mountain, "Strong cell signal from all three major providers AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Verizon got a bit slow at night, but during the day otherwise all three were great."

Accessibility: Winter conditions impact vehicle access to cabins near Silverton. Alice S. noted that 4J+1+1 RV Park is valuable because "If you don't have a 4x4 this is the place to stay," suggesting better access than more remote cabin options during snowy conditions.
