    Madden Peak Road - Dispersed

    Scenic and Secluded

Madden Peak dispersed camping is a fantastic option for those seeking a peaceful and scenic camping experience near Mesa Verde National Park, Cortez, and Durango. This area is big rig accessible, with relatively flat camping spots, though the access roads can be bumpy at times . Campfires are allowed, making it a cozy spot for evenings under the stars.

The location offers stunning views of the La Plata Mountains and the surrounding wilderness, providing a serene backdrop for your stay. For outdoor enthusiasts, nearby hiking options include the Madden Peak Trail, which spans 4.5 miles and can be extended to summit Parrot Peak and Gibbs Peak. It's an ideal choice for campers who enjoy combining relaxation with outdoor adventure.

    West Fork Dispersed

    Nice spot by the river

There were about 4 spots clustered together right after the second bridge (a little over 2 miles from the main road). i took the right fork after that towards the rainbow springs trailhead and didn’t find anything else, but there might be more spots if you take the left fork after the second bridge instead. at the end of october the paid campground you pass by is closed for the season, no water and vault toilets are locked

Great Value, Perfect Hot Springs Access

Great location, close to Durango and right across from the hot springs. Convenient gas station and grocery store less than 5 minutes away, but if you're buying a lot of groceries, I’d recommend going somewhere closer to Durango as the store across the highway is a bit pricey. Excellent access to streams for anglers

    United Campground of Durango

    Good location, quite expensive

Clean, hot showers and large laundry room.

One of the more beautiful RV sites, sitting along the silverton & Durango tourist train.

However given we don’t even plug in, $78 including tax is too expensive for us.

    Tico Time River Resort

    Not worth all the hype

We thought it would be great to check out Tico Time last weekend, but our experience was disappointing. We had reservations for Friday and Saturday night, but when we arrived, there was no one to help us find our campsite. After driving around aimlessly, we finally found our spot.

However, the place gave off a rundown, homeless camp vibe with old camp trailers, a hippie bus, and even a car on blocks, and another trailer had two motorcycles in various stages of being dismantled.

The zip line was a letdown, and there wasn't much shade due to the lack of trees. We wished we could have gone to the river to cool off. After just one night, we decided to move on and found a better spot further up the road in the mountains north of Durango.

    Really Convenient Location

The site is literally right off of hwy 160. If your gps tries to send you through residential areas or on county roads don’t listen to it.

There are quite a few available spots and most are pretty big. Roads can be a bit rough the farther back you go but it’s got large easy to access spots close to the front. It’s pretty busy but still plenty of room for everyone to have their own space.

Phone and internet connection is excellent!

    Over night sleep stop.

Stop here just for and sleep stop overnight. Road is well maintained. Several places to pull off the side of the road or actual sites too. We have a 35' 5th wheel and had no problems menivering the area. Nice lake with a parking lot at the end the turn around at if you wish to take the road all the way to the end.

    Awesome tidy and private sites

Junction Creek campground is a lovely place to stay. The price is good, the hosts are just soo friendly and helpful. The site was even swept clean of pine needles as the toilets are very fresh.

The whole experience was very good with well spaced sites and flat ground all between the trees.

There is great walking and mountain biking right from camp too! Enjoy!

    Next to highway, 5g connection

Going east from Durango, you make a right turn on silver hills road. You will see the blm sign. Gravel road, fire pits. We stayed in a camper van at one of the first spots and had 5g internet with AT&T. Can hear highway noise

    Breathtaking views

Traveling to Colorado from Albuquerque NM and this was a perfect place to camp. Arrived early Friday afternoon and got the only spot left our 26' toy hauler would fit in.

If you get there later in the afternoon on a weekend you will have a hard time finding a place in the official camping spots but you can disperse camp if the camp ground area is full.

We had good cell service with Verizon. It was cold for us but we had a nice fire to keep us warm.

    Quiet in the Tall Timbers

We had site 22 which is away from the stream. Quite steep front to back. Level side to side. We were at our limit of ability to level the TT. Almost every site is big and well spaced. The whole area is treed with TALL lodgepoll pines with a few TALL ponderosa pines as well. Absolutely stunning. If you need solar, this is not the place. Otherwise it’s lovely.

    Fun location

There are 20+ campsites along FR667. Some can accommodate RVs, some only tents. We parked a popup at the 1st campsite past the bridge near the trailhead. 2 waterfalls are close, Pagosa Springs is 30ish mins away. Our kids tubed down the creek. Lots of ATV traffic, some bikes, but overall quiet.

Sims Mesa Campground — Navajo Lake State Park

    Very secluded and quiet

We spent two nights here. I think I would’ve chosen the loop with campsites 1 through 19 instead of the other loop that we stayed at. We were in campsite 26 and it was a little difficult to get our trailer into it because we had to back uphill. Also, the other loop most likely would have a view overlooking the lake more. The showers were very nice and they do have a dump station. My only complaint I guess would be the road in from the main highway was pretty rough and had lots of potholes. That road is about 17 miles long.

    HTR Durango Campground

    Depends on what you value

I value space, privacy, value and and quality of the area.  This is a old campground purchased by a multi park company.  It is on a twisty, multi curved 2 lane about 7 miles from downtown Durango.  It is in what is/was a beautiful small canyon with numerous aspen and other trees.  It has a creek which flows part of the year.  That said, it is crowded, with your neighbors sewer connection next to your picnic table.  The spaces are short.  If your RV/toad  or travel trailer plus pickup is much over 48 feet, you'll be out in the road.  They WILL put you in too small a space.  My pickup, parked overnight was damaged by someone trying to make the too tight turn at the end of the campground.  The beauty of the place is totally compromised by not just the rv spaces but multiple cabins dotting the hills around and tent sites, etc. etc.  If you value quality of experience , this is not the place for you.

    Beautiful Campground

I stayed here for one night and was pleasantly surprised. It’s surrounded by tall Lodgepole pines that offer awesome shade and privacy from neighbors. Bathrooms were clean. Camp hosts were friendly. It sounds like there is a lot of bear activity so tent camping could be a concern. There were mostly RVs.

    New Jack Road

    Long road, lots of choices!

Down a dirt road, you get to where you make a turn, and immediately you’ll start seeing unimproved site. The better sites appear to be closest to that turn, but if you keep driving you’ll find plenty of sites not within earshot of anyone else.

One think I noticed with ATT service you’ll get 2, sometimes 3 bars by my location (below). As I drove the road I was seeing mostly 1-2 bars.

Bring your own everything and enjoy the peaceful and quiet!
