Westerly RV Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Stream sounds carry through site five at Westerly RV Park, a compact full-hookup RV park on the north end of Durango along Highway 550. The park runs about 27 spaces arranged around a circle drive, with back-in, pull-in, and pull-through options accommodating rigs up to 70 feet. Sites on the outer edge of the loop back up to a stream, while interior spots sit noticeably closer together. Durango Hot Springs sits directly across the street, and a gas station and grocery store are within five minutes by car.

The trade-off for that location is noise. Highway 550 runs close to the property, and a road toward the springs adds additional traffic sounds. Reviewers consistently flag this as a factor, particularly from sites facing the highway side. Electrical infrastructure is worth noting too: one reviewer reported a faulty pedestal that damaged a surge protector, and the hosts acknowledged multiple pedestals with wiring issues at the time. The park has no bathrooms or showers on site, though it does include full laundry facilities, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. Anglers have direct access to nearby streams.

David N. notes a "beautiful view of mountains" from the property, and the tree cover gives the grounds a forested feel despite the highway proximity. Owners draw consistent praise across reviews for being accommodating and keeping the property clean. Nightly rates run $42 to $54. Campers wanting a quieter riverside setup might also consider Red Cliffs Ranch, located about 1.6 miles northeast.

Visitors often highlighted the friendly, helpful hosts and convenient location across from hot springs. Some feedback indicated concerns about tight spacing and highway noise, though the full hookups and proximity to Durango attractions were commonly appreciated.

Great Value, Perfect Hot Springs Access

Great location, close to Durango and right across from the hot springs. Convenient gas station and grocery store less than 5 minutes away, but if you're buying a lot of groceries, I’d recommend going somewhere closer to Durango as the store across the highway is a bit pricey. Excellent access to streams for anglers

Normal Rv park next to a Hot spring resort.

The campsite was pretty basic but it was a short drive to purgatory ski resort and across the street from a hot springs resort. Durango was a fun time and would recommend if looking for a spot close to all the fun.

Nice but small campground

Small older park 27spaces. Nice owners. Your about 5 miles north of Durango right off hwy 550. Beautiful view of mountains. Park has FHU with back in, pull in, and pull thru sites. Next time through here this will definitely be our first choice. We camped here in the middle of may in a motorhome.

Bad Pedestals. Use caution.

These people had pedestals with faulty wiring. Fried my $300 surge protector. Told me they couldn't move us to another site because they had several bad pedestals. Would not give me my money back.

Simple and no frills, friendly, but a bit noisy

We were on our way to up Silverton but couldn't make it before dark so we found Westerly. Bonus points in that the hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating for us; we needed to extend our stay a couple hours because of virtual schooling on the road. They allowed us to stay until the "regular" for our spot #5 showed up, but they ended up canceling anyway. We were at the edge of the campground backed up to a stream which was nice and provided some nature sounds. However, the grounds sat very close to the highway and also the road behind up to the springs. There was frequent noise from annoying drivers. Not the campgrounds fault, but definitely impacted the experience a bit.

The spots inside the circle drive seemed much more packed in than the spots on the outside.  One thing to note, at least at our site, was that the water/electric were shared with the neighbor, and the site on our front side was the same. This resulted in a nice front-side experience for us as we weren't looking at (or smelling) the rig next to us.

Great people great spot

This is both my first review, but also my first ever RV trip. This is a simple campground, no bathrooms or showers, but they do have full laundry facilities. Westerly is a small 24 spot full hook up RV park on the north end of Durango Colorado. Why did I give it 5 stars? The hosts are wonderful people who are friendly, welcoming and helpful. They maintain the property and it’s impeccable. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit, there is a dog run and across the street is the newly remodeled Durango Hot Springs. Worth a night or a full week visit.

Big Nope

Did have full hookups. Campers stacked on top of each other. No showers or bathrooms. Very urban feeling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Westerly RV Park in Durango, CO?

Westerly RV Park offers full hookups for RVs and laundry facilities. The park does not have showers or bathrooms on site, so guests should plan to be self-contained. Despite being a smaller park with 24-27 spots, it provides the essential utilities needed for RV camping. Some electrical issues have been reported with certain pedestals, so it may be advisable to bring a surge protector when staying here.

What does Westerly RV Park look like?

Westerly RV Park is a small, older RV park with approximately 27 spaces arranged in a relatively compact layout. Sites include a mix of back-in, pull-in, and pull-through options to accommodate different RV types. The setting offers beautiful mountain views despite its roadside location. The park has a somewhat urban feel with RVs positioned fairly close together. While basic in design and amenities, the natural surroundings provide a pleasant backdrop for camping.

How do Westerly RV Park reviews compare to other RV parks in Durango?

Westerly RV Park receives mixed reviews compared to other Durango options. Visitors appreciate the friendly and accommodating hosts who are willing to work with guests on timing needs. The park's convenient location and beautiful mountain views are frequently highlighted positives. However, some find it basic with closely spaced sites and lack of bathrooms/showers. The park seems best suited for travelers who need a straightforward, functional place to park their self-contained RV rather than those seeking resort-style amenities.

Where is Westerly RV Park located in relation to Durango attractions?

Westerly RV Park is situated approximately 5 miles north of Durango just off Highway 550, making it convenient for exploring the region. The park is directly across the street from a hot springs resort (formerly called Trimble Hot Springs), offering easy access to relaxation after a day of adventures. There's a gas station and grocery store less than 5 minutes away for basic supplies, though more affordable grocery shopping can be found closer to Durango. The location also provides good access to Purgatory Ski Resort, making it an excellent base for both summer and winter activities in the area.
