Multiple pull offs on Hungry Horse RD

The GPS coordinates for this place are slightly off. Look for Hungry Horse Rd and follow it 4 miles until you reach the Hungry Horse Reservoir Dam. Dispersed camping is allowed anywhere along the road after the dam.

Plenty of places to pull off, the road goes for miles. There are also many established state campgrounds along the road. The sites that I saw were nothing fancy, some with fire rings and some not. I read about some places that are nicer if you take the fire roads that branch off the main road, but I came in late and just used a pull-off. I'd recommend going to the Ranger station located in Hungry Horse and ask for some dispersed camping information (The area is very large).

No services, pack in, pack out. No reliable service for Verizon.

Easy spot for a large rig or a big group.

This area is down a paved fire road. The campsite is a couple miles down and directly before the road splits into two. You'll see a fire safety sign. Very quiet night, only had two vehicles pass by the entire time I was there.

There is one area that is a large flat clearing with gravel and a firepit, and would be great if you have a big group, as it could accommodate a lot of campers. I didn't park there because there was some large puddles and mud at the entrance and I didn't want to get stuck. You could probably manage without 4x4 (I recently got stuck a month ago, and didnt want to risk it). I parked just outside the camp area on the pavement, this area would be great for an RV or Trailer because it's paved and has a fire ring. You could also go back into the woods for tent camping. I followed a few trails and saw some spots, but some of the areas were drowned or muddy.

No services. Pack in, pack out. Verizon service was slow.

Awesome campground near the river

This place was my favorite campsite while visiting the Olympic peninsula. Super close to Ruby beach and Hoh rainforest.

There are only a few sites, so I imagine in the busy season, you'll need to get there early. The road is gravel, but manageable for most Rigs. I would be hesitant to bring a large RV or Trailer, because the turn around is a bit tight.

There is a pit toilet, but no other services. There is a campsite next the outhouse, that is reserved for until 6pm for handicap campers. Pack in, pack out. Verizon service was slow.

Awesome spot near Capital Reef

Great area near Capital Reef NP. Plenty of level spots with fire rings and amazing views. The road is pretty packed and easy to navigate (RVs, trailers, ect). There are a few rocks here and there poking out, but you can drive around.

There are a few areas, and you can space out pretty well for privacy. There is an awesome spot if you turn left and go all the way back into the rock walls, where you are surrounded by the cliffs. Not a lot of level ground at that spot, so it's better for tent campers. But plenty of other great spots for RVs, trailers, and other campers.

No services. Pack in, pack out. Verizon service was good. There is an awesome hike to the top of the cliffs for a sunset. You can find the route on alltrails.

Desert boondocking with views

Not a bad spot to stop for the night. This spot is a little ways off the highway. The road is rutted but manageable. Take the right turn 40 or 50 yards before you see the "welcome to the la verkin overlook" and no trespassing sign (The GPS took me past the turn). I came in at night and parked on a little pullover area, but the actual camping area is a large level dirt lot. Room for 5-6 good size RVs, and if you go past the big lot, there are maybe 5-6 sites that would be a bit more private. (Tent campers might have a difficult time as most of the sights have been torn up by tires).

If there is recent rain, I'd recommend parking on a pull off area before this dispersed area. Offers great views, and I could only hear noise from the highway if I was outside my van.

No services, pack in pack out. Verizon service was good.

Quiet spot near Zion and Kolob canyon

Great spot in between Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyon. The area is a dirt road with a couple spots to park. One large area near the front that could be a group site. There are more sites as you go back, but the road gets rough. The road was pretty washed out at the entrance when we stayed, but was able to make it up with a 2 wheel drive promaster. I'd be careful if there is rain, we didn't stay another night because it rained and we were sliding on our way out.

No services, pack in, pack out. No Verizon service, but service in Springdale 20 minutes up the road.

Quiet spot for all types of campers

This spot is right next to Glen Canyon NRA campsite. Only about 17 to Page and 7 minutes to a Pilot gas station. After you pull off the highway, you will cross 2 cattle grates. The site is about a mile after the second grate. If you see a cattle coral, you have arrived. Keep in mind the sign says to camp at least 300ft away from the coral. The road can be easily driven by all campers (RV, Trailers, ect. No need for 4x4).

There are two large areas to park on across from the coral and one on the far side. Couple fire rings. The road continues (this is the Glen Canyon NRA campsite) closer to a few rock formations, but the road gets rougher and may need 4x4.

No services, pack in, pack out. Verizon service was alright. You can walk to a few rock formations here. Interesting hollows in the rock walls.

Nice quiet spot near Glen Canyon

Great spot to stop while exploring Glen Canyon. 15 to Page and 5 minutes to a Pilot gas station. After you pull off the highway, you will cross a cattle grate. This campground is right before the second cattle grate about a mile in. The road can be easily driven by all campers (RV, Trailers, ect. No need for 4x4). If any rain has come through, I'd scout ahead as the road is sandy and could get washed out. Views were amazing, and sunrise was spectacular.

There are plenty of level areas to park with fire rings. One spot right near the cattle grate and a few further up the road. Only noise was the occasional car driving by.

No services, pack in, pack out. Verizon service was alright.

Best BLM camping near the lake

I loved this area. Not all BLM campgrounds are equal, and this one is one of the top on my list. Only 12 to a planet fitness for showers and only 5 minutes to groceries and supplies. The area is a mile off the highway. When you get to the mile in, there is a large lot with plenty of parking, but the road goes farther with more private spaces along the road. I went quite a ways back and found a great spot with an amazing view of the rocky knolls.

The road to get there is dirt, but not rutted, so any low clearance vehicle should be able to make it. The area is definitely busy with OHV and plenty of other campers, but I didn't have any issue with rowdy neighbors.

No services, pack in, pack out. Verizon service was good. Great place to go walking and found a few trails to various viewpoints.

Good spot to stop and work

Great spot to stop for a work week. 15 to a planet fitness for showers and 10 minutes to Loves gas station for another shower option. The area is large and has plenty of room for all kinds of campers.

The area is right off the highway, but you can go far enough back to minimize any noise. There are plenty of level areas to park with fire rings. Not much privacy here. You can drive to the wash area for a bit more privacy. Lots of OHV during the day and people run their generators at all hours, but I didn't have any issue sleeping.

No services, pack in, pack out. Verizon service was good. There are a few areas to hike around here. Had a great hike to the top of the rocky hill near the back of the area. (If you want some areas that are less busy, there are 2 other BLM areas along the highway that don't get as busy).

Great Dispersed Camping on the South Side of Joshua Tree NP

This was a great spot to stay while exploring the south side of Joshua Tree NP. Closest dispersed camping to the Cottonwood area. Right off the highway, but far enough away that the noise isn't noticeable. If coming from the highway, the area is right before the Joshua Tree Park sign. You can head right or left, and there are camping areas.

The road is manageable for any kind of camper (RV, Trailer, ect). The sites are spaced well, and some are level and others are not. There are a ton of fire rings. There are sites ranging in size from large enough for a few RVs to only large enough for one vehicle. Sunset and views were nice. Noise was very minimal from neighbors, only a few OHV or vehicles coming and going.

No services. Pack in, pack out. There is potable water in the park at the Cottonwood Campground. Verizon service was good.

Gravel areas with easy access

Very easy area to get to. You get off the highway and are on a paved/well maintained gravel road until you get to a site. Once you get off the paved road, you can pretty much pull off wherever you want. There are a few turn offs into large gravel areas. There is not much privacy and noise from OHV and the highway, but not enough to keep me from sleeping. There is construction going on across the bridge from the camping area, so in the morning, there were a lot of construction vehicles.

There are fire rings scattered about and some Saguros here and there. It's not a bad stop to make for the night, considering it's free.

No services, pack in, pack out. Verizon service was ok, but slow.

Nice spot for OHV

The views of the mountains are nice here! Right off the highway, there is lots of noise. This area is a bunch of level gravel lots. Accessible to any kind of big rig or camper. You can explore a bit to get a place that is more private, but you will want 4x4 and high clearance. Lots of fire rings scattered about, and some trash here and there.

If you want to get some exercise in, there is an abandoned mine 1.5 miles up the road. Seems like lots of people take off-road vehicles up that way.

No services, pack in, pack out. Verizon service was good.

Secluded spot if you can make it here

I did not stay here, but I wanted to check out the area.

First off, I wouldn't recommend any kind of camper come to this area. The road is narrow, and there are trees and scrubs that will scratch your vehicle (my vehicle already has a bunch of scratches). You definitely need a high clearance and maybe 4X4 as the road crosses washes and sand. There are 2 or 3 sites at the beginning of the dispersed area that a small camper could get to, but after .3 miles, the road gets rough and narrow.

Overall, it's a pretty great spot for some tent camping, and I imagine not many people make it out here. I only saw 2 vehicles at the very entrance of the area. So you could get a great secluded spot in the middle of a ton of Saguros if you make the trek out here.

No services. Pack in, pack out. 1 pr 2 bars of Verizon service.

Awesome spot under the Saguaros

This area is directly across from Cattle Tanks Rd dispersed. I camped at Cattle Tanks the night before and came over here to see if there was any difference. There are a lot fewer campers on this side, and it doesn't seem as popular. It is almost exactly the same, quiet area with beautiful views. The road does, however, have a few more ruts in it, but you could still get through with low clearance.

Seems like the area is a OHV area, but I didn't see or hear any vehicles the whole time I was here. There are plenty of large sites as well as just areas to pull a vehicle through.

There are no services. Pack in, Pack out. Verizon service was good.

Beautiful and relaxing area

It's great to come here and spend some time relaxing and hiking. This area is about 30 minutes away from Rilloto for supplies. Picacho Peak State park is 20 minutes away for hiking. Overall, it is a quiet area with beautiful views.

You turn off a paved road onto a dirt road. The dirt road is well maintained and any kind of camper should be able to navigate. There are plenty of large sites as well as just areas to pull a vehicle through. Tent camping would be great here with all the saguaros.

The road goes back for about 2 miles and the sites are spaced well. The dirt road was great for a morning run or bike ride.

There are no services. Pack in, Pack out. Verizon service was good.

Dirt area off the highway

This area is about 20 minutes west of Las Cruces. It's directly off the highway and is a gravel/dirt area. There aren't really any sites, more just areas to pull a vehicle through. Large enough for any kind of camper (RV, Trailers, ect). You could also tent camp if you wanted.

This area was nice to stop for the night because I was getting tired. Lots of highway noise, and the area is a bit trashy. For a stop to rest and eat, it worked perfectly. There is a gas station nearby, but the area is dispersed, so there are no services. Verizon service was good.

If you want a free site that you can spend a few days at, there are some great dispersed campgrounds on the east side of Las Cruces. They have hiking trails nearby at the Orange Mountains.

Crowded Spot Near the National Parks

Only 20 minutes from Carlsbad Caverns NP and about 30 minutes from Carlsbad NM! Slaughter canyon trail is 20 minutes down the same road the campsite is on. This is a great spot off the highway. You can hear some noise throughout the night. Also, it can be noisy if neighbors are loud.

The area is a fenced-in level gravel lot with pit toilets, trash, picnic table sites, and tent sites. Each site has a grill and campfire area with a covered picnic table. Sites fill up quickly, but there are plenty of spots to park next to the fence. Easy to get here with any kind of camper (RV, trailer, ect). Views are great, and the area is maintained well.

The campground allows five consecutive nights of camping. Verizon service was good!

Quiet BLM spot away from the highway

Only 30 minutes from Carlsbad Caverns NP and about 20 minutes from Carlsbad NM! This is a great spot off the highway with basically no noise from cars.

The area is a level gravel lot with some brush and scubs scattered about. Seems like a place that isn't well known. I'd recommend high clearance to get up to the main area. There are other sites as you follow the road up the hill, but the road gets more rocky the further you go up. One fire ring in the main area and some fire rings in other sites. If you want a site that you can't see the highway from, this is the spot.

Dispersed area, pack in pack out. Verizon service was good!

Great camping in a state park

This campground is in a state park. There is potable water, dump station, electric and water hookups, and clean showers! The sites are nice with a picnic table and covered patio area. Spaces are not too cramed together, so you have a bit of privacy. The site overlooks the lake and has walking trails around the area. There is a playground for kids near the bathrooms.

Bathrooms were clean! They have three showers each in the men's and women's restrooms, as well as two private showers with a toilet and sink.

There is a self pay station or pay online. Self-pay is cash or check only. $14-18 dollars depending on what hookups you need. Staff was helpful and friendly. Overall, it was a wonderful and quiet stay near Carlsbad.
