Astico County Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Reservable sites at Astico County Park run $20 to $25 per night, with the season running April through October. The campground sits along a small river in Dodge County, Wisconsin, and is divided into three distinct areas: river sites with electric hookups, a tent-only point, and the Danville area with additional electric sites. RVs are well accommodated, with water, electric, and sewer hookups available, plus a dump station on site. Boat-in access is possible, and a launch near site 13 makes getting on the water straightforward.

Water access is a recurring draw. Several reviewers mention canoeing and kayaking directly from riverside sites, and fishing near the bridge at the park entrance has produced results quickly, including pike. A restored rail bridge, short hiking trails, artesian wells, and proximity to the Wild Goose Trail, a flat crushed-rock path open to cyclists, runners, and equestrians, round out the activity options. The campground is not remote. Highway noise carries to some sites, so choosing a spot tucked against the woods or further from the road makes a noticeable difference.

Bathroom facilities have drawn mixed comments over the years, though a more recent reviewer notes the bathhouse is "super clean" and new. Sites are described as a decent size, with some open and others backed against trees. Dark skies are possible on quieter nights, with at least one camper spotting the Milky Way. Pets are welcome on the trails. Campers who want a county-managed base with river access and full hookups will find Astico worth a look, particularly for families or groups making a weekend of it. For other options in the region, Derge County Park is another Dodge County site worth comparing.

Great little QUIET county park!!

We stayed here one night and had a great experience! The restroom/bathhouse is super clean, conveniently located, and NEW. A refreshing thing after roughing it. We took a trail down to the trussle bridge that goes across the river. Nice nature view. Fishing was good too, near the bridge at the entrance to the park. My son was there maybe 5 min and hooked a decent sized pike. We brought our two dogs and they enjoyed the quiet of the park and the trails. Only complaint I had was that someone previously had left dog poop at our site, but sometimes people don't clean up after their pets. Our site had electric, only 30 amp hookup but we had a 50 amp adapter and it worked well. We would definitely stay again.

Dark enough to see the Milky Way

The sites are a decent size and well maintained. We easily backed in and leveled our pop up. The shower house is clean. The campground is busy this weekend, but was quite at dark. It was dark enough to see the Milky Way. The toilet is quite a walk, but they are adding more. There is a big playground at the top of the hill. On other trips we’ve enjoyed the swings nearer the river and the artesian wells. The hiking trails are nice and there is a restored rail bridge. We’ve also fished and rented kayaks on previous visits. There is a small cemetery at the top of the hill to explore and learn more about the people in the area.

Great Count Park!

My family and I enjoy the rural setting but its close proximity to several communities. With smaller children having resources available was nice. Astico provides us the camping experience with access to amenities for a young family. It is one of our favorites for a quick get a way.

Nice spot for camping

I thought this was a great location besides the bit of highway noise you get depending on your site. Preacher and Caroline (the workers here) are extremely friendly professional and just fun to chat with. Bathrooms need some work but again that’s part of the experience. I’d definitely come again.

Beautiful views

Some of the views are beautiful and everyone was so nice and helpful, but the restrooms and showers are in desperate need of updating! I get its not easy to keep that stuff up to date and most of the bathrooms are glorified port-a-johns but the mens room closest to my site had a cracked toilet seat and it pinched. I will definitely be back and hopefully soon!

Small but on the water

We stayed at campsite 1, which is right in the little river. Site had extra space around it, and we could canoe right from our site or use the boat launch by site 13. Plenty of tent and a few electric sites, I’d highly recommend for rvs and tents if you stay further from the highway. This campground is very pretty, just not remote at all so you can hear the sounds of cars and trucks. Video is posted with sound. If you want a nice family weekend with easy access to water, this is a great place. There are some short hikes and a historical bridge to see. Also close to the Wild Goose bike trail, which is a flat crushed rock path for running, biking, or horse back riding. For rvs they have water fill and a dump site, so you’re covered. The bathrooms are less than desirable, but that’s not why you’re here. We would definitely come again, but would pick a spot with less highway traffic. Some sites are nestled against the woods, some are more open. Good place for groups! A 15 min drive in to Juneau or Colombus to refuel.

  • Campsite 1, right on the water for easy kayaking, but also some road noise.
