Ledge County Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Rock outcrops and limestone ledges rise along the hiking trails at this Dodge County park on the edge of Horicon, Wisconsin, giving the campground its name and its most distinctive feature. The park sits adjacent to the Horicon Marsh wildlife area, and campers regularly report hearing owls at night and spotting foxes and birds along the trail corridors. Sites in the non-electric area run large and well-spaced. The electric hookup loop is a different story: sites there are noticeably closer together, and the density can feel more like a festival grounds than a woodland campground.

"Walking along the trails, you can see where it gets its name," notes Renee R., who also found the non-electric sites quiet and decently spaced. The trail network connects directly from camp to rock formations suitable for scrambling, overlook points with open sightlines toward the marsh, two playgrounds, and picnic areas. Site 20 draws consistent praise from reviewers as the largest pull-through on the property, positioned at the top of a hill with views on three sides.

Facilities are consistently described as clean across multiple years of reviews. Vault toilets serve the non-electric area, while flush toilets and showers are located near the dump station, a short walk from most sites. Firepits are flush-mounted with cooking grates, though a few older pits in the non-electric section reportedly lack grates. The campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet with electric and water hookups, and a dump station is on-site. Reservations are available and worth making, particularly for larger or pull-through sites.

The park operates year-round, and at least one reviewer flags fall as a worthwhile time to visit given the foliage along the ledge trail. Campers who want additional nearby options can find camping near Horicon through The Dyrt, including The Playful Goose Campground a few miles to the southwest. Pets are welcome throughout the park.

Ledge County Park rewards campers who come for the trails and the marsh access, then return because the facilities hold up and the sites give enough room to actually use.

Great park, decent camping

The park is very pretty.  Walking along the trails, you can see where it gets its name!  Lots of cool ledges and rock outcrops.  We saw a moderate amount of birds and heard a bunch of critters (owls, a fox (?!)) one night.

We camped at non-electric site J.  It was nice and big.  We originally were to be at site G but it was way too small to fit our cars, tents, etc.

Pros:

- Quiet and decently spaced sites.

- Clean vault toilets.  Did not use the shower house/other facilities.

- The firepits are flush with the ground and have cooking grates.

- Easy access to trails.

Cons:

- I'm not a trailer camper, but if I were I would not appreciate the vibes of the electric sites.  The sites are very close together and walking through it felt like going through a festival or circus more than a campground.

- The firewood was a bit pricey compared to other parks.

Fantastic

This was kind of a last minute find. We love this place! Site is big and level… just a short walk to bathrooms and the observation deck. The deck is the perfect place to catch the sunset. Clean, quiet… and just about perfect. We’ll be back.

Great spot for tents

Our spot was a nicely wooded site in the back portion of the campground. The hiking trails are beautiful, with great views. Its a great place for some fall camping.

Pleasantly unique!

We love camping at county and state parks since we are tent campers and this park was one of my favorites. Beautiful hiking on the ledge (even did some climbing up the rock formations), spectacular views at the lookout points and multiple areas to picnic with a couple playgrounds for kids. The sites were average size, some were a tad smaller than I would like but we usually camp with another couple so we like the space. There are pit toilets in the non-electric area but the walk to the flush toilets/showers was short so we primarily used those. Clean showers and toilets and really friendly attendants. We will definitely be back soon!

Wonderful campground for nature lovers

After leaving a flooded, soggy Blue Mounds State Park we decided to see if we could get a site here on Saturday afternoon so we could complete a weekend camping in our new trailer. We were thrilled to be able to choose from maybe 20 unoccupied non electric sites - we do not need electricity as we have solar. These sites were so spacious - but one downside is the fire pits are very old and many do not have grills for cooking on.

Pit toilets are available in the non electric area, but toilets/showers are available by the dump station. Two playgrounds, picnic areas, fabulous trails, and just beside the Horicon Marsh wildlife area. We will be back!

Nice County Park

We got a last minute reservation and stayed on the handicap site. It was half black topped but had a nice grassy area. It is right next to the toilets/showers. The bathrooms were clean, the attendants were really nice, they borrowed us an extension cord so we could set up a bit further back.

The only issues were more sunny than I like and some people walking through our site to the bathroom.

Site butts up to a bit of tree landscape and field behind it. The hiking is great, close to Horicon Marsh, pet friendly. We very much enjoyed our stay,

This is a great little camping area! There are a couple hiking trails as well as nice spacious campsites. We were here for a weekend mid summer and it was not very busy. We will be going back again :)
