    Overview

Boot Lake Campground overlooks its namesake -- 263-acre Boot Lake. Bask in the sun on the beautiful beach and then take a relaxing dip in the lake, or enjoy the fishing. Boot Lake contains walleye, northern pike, bass, musky, and panfish. In addition, several nearby streams offer excellent trout fishing, and the Wolf River provides fishing, kayaking, rafting, and first-class canoeing opportunities. The Jones Spring Non-Motorized Area is nearby, and offers hiking, hunting, and cross-country skiing. Generally, use at this popular campground is heavy throughout the summer.

    Recreation

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest has an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. Those most enjoyed at Boot Lake are fishing, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. Due to the clarity of the water Scuba diving has become increasingly popular.

    Natural Features

This campground sits on the northwest corner of Boot Lake, in a quiet finger of the lake. The campground is a mix of hardwoods and pine. Boot Lake is a high quality clear lake and has a maximum depth of 38 feet.

    Nearby Attractions

Jones Springs Non-Motorized Area is just west of Boot Lake. It offers opportunities for hiking, hunting and cross-country skiing in the winter. There is a trail in the campground that connects into the Jones Springs hiking trails. The nearby Wolf River provides excellent opportunities for rafting and white water canoeing, and kayaking. The local community of Townsend is just north of the campground. The Cathedral Pines Trail is approximately four miles from the campground -- a must see at any time of the year.

Diamond Lake Family Campground and Trout Farm

    Great in the Fall

The Diamond Lake area is a great example of good places to be to enjoy the Fall foliage. A simple camp setup is all I needed to enjoy my time here. The best feature here would likely be space to roam under the trees.

This campground boast a variety of site types from cabins, to a yurt, to a bunkhouse, pull-through sites, and much more. They have a playground as well as nice beaches to access the lake from. Minigolf is yet another feature on site. If you want one place that has it all for the many types of camping you may like to do, Diamond Lake is a great camp.

    Wonderful family weekend

I took my daughter and her friend here for the weekend, 10 years old. We rented a cabin for the weekend. Amazing cabins, amazing setup, they all have picnic tables and benches on porch. Cabin had three beds, fridge, air conditioner, two windows, plenty of plugs in. Bring your own sleeping bags/towels and etc as these are not provided. Fire ring provided down the stairs from us, even further down was the huge extremely clean pool, bathrooms, showers. Both of which were amazing! And free of use. Pool is very well maintained and kept, plenty of chairs to use and tables. Right next to the pool was a huge and brand new kids play area. They also have rock mining for kids located by the pool which the kids loved. They also liked the store; a lot of neat things in there for adults, kids, camp, and even animal friends. Commons area which is open at the front, made for a nice sitting to relax. Also located on the beach which was nice to see and the dock area was nice, kids liked it. The set up is great, a little confusing the first time but easy to learn. All of the Cabins were close except for the first two which were at the entrance of the park and bigger. They were two rooms compared to our one room. Permanent residence were extremely nice, the campsite is privately owned and operated which we loved and met the owners. We will certainly be back again! Additional information that may be helpful since I researched this campsite extensively May 15 th to October 6th is the campsites open/ closed dates. Check in for campsites and yurts are different. Campsites is at 2, cabin and hurts 3pm but we checked in early about a half hour. No additional charge. Animals welcome, must be leased and friendly. If you have visitors must be gone by 9pm- they actually let my husband stay with no additional charge or fee and accommodated our two vehicles. Otherwise one vehicle per cabin. Location was extremely easy with the signs directly off of highway. Not far from town, if you need something or go to store there; they probably have what you need. Basic sites, some with piers overlooking the beach and huge! Beautiful absolutely will camp there with our tent. Pull through and deluxe sites, seasonal sites, decks, and dogi pots(hint hint). All campsites babe electric and water, the yurt is amazing! It comes with couch, beds, tables, and so much more! It is located on the water scenery and a little more private by being set back. Yurt also has heat and ac; wouldn’t mind staying there in early May or late September. Outdoor picnic area, plenty of room for about 15 people and includes setting in a circular setting located directly by the playground/ pool and playroom. They have events as well, the kids and I not only used the mining system by the office but we watched a movie by the playground area- it was amazing and free! Camping lakeside or not lakeside. There was a secluded campsite and raised above, number 155- I’d suggest this one for anyone who want to get a way and be alone. It was a nice site and I didn’t notice it until we left. The cabin we rented was$80 a night, non refundable since it was last minute. This included two adults and up to four kids. I could see how four kids would easily fit because of the bunk beds and queen bed in our cabin. Oh forgot to mention there was also a microwave in the room and a broom, garbage bins. The door was rustic and still has a lock on it but it was the pulley door which the kids loved. To my understanding there are no pets allowed in the yurt. Also the only, one and only thing I didn’t like was that wood couldn’t be purchased else where. The wood purchased there burnt fast and didn’t last long, we only used it to cook food on our tripod due to how fast the wood burnt. Although there was also a park grill on the cabin premises too which we didn’t use; very used and had nothing to clean it with. There are seasonal sites, I don’t know how much they are but it’s a very quiet campground and everyone folllowed rules for the quiet time. Another thing I noticed is the seasonal all keep their yards very well maintained. They had beautiful landscape, yards were mowed, and nice fences- porches- decor- and sheds. Camp owner/ host lives directly across from the check in office/ store so that was comforting knowing someone was at the gate at all times. We walked down to the beach, lake area. At the tome it was being worked on but it was still beautiful and very quiet. No bugs in this area either. You can make reservations on line, see pictures on line, rates on line, and see the camp map. If i has to recommend any sites it’d be 151 for tenting and wanting to be alone, away from everyone. Campsite number 17 for camping with a tent/ pop up because it over looks the beach and has a huge deck to sit on, have dinner on or drink coffee while watching the beach another three sites I’d recommend, tents only is number 61 63 or 65. They are down further than the rest of the campsites, they are also a little more secluded and with a beach view. This would be perfect for a set of three friends camping together to rent. This is also main entrance to beach are. I also wouldn’t mind renting the first cabin when you enter campground as it’s bigger. There is one cabin I wouldn’t suggest and that’s 106. It’s in the middle of a triangle area for traffic. It was exactly across from our cabin and a lot of traffic going by it from many different ways. Finally thanks S’mores for the amazing stay; they truly accommodated us and we appreciate it.

    Excellent for Young Families

As a father with 3 young kids, I thoroughly enjoy this camp for the activities and amenities available. The water area is a favorite for kids and the grounds sport plenty of things to grab their attention from mini-golf to the lake. The sites themselves had enough to meet your needs, as well as enough tree cover to still help you enjoy the feeling of being in nature. The drive in is nice and accessible even for bigger rigs. It's a good entry point for the nature in Northeast Wisconsin.

    Secluded lake camping

This campground is near Townsend. If this one s full just continue down the road to Boulder Lake Campground.

We liked the diversity of campsites. You can find your own space and even add in some shade. Vault toilets and water can be found. Garbage bins are here too. The boat launch gives you access to the peaceful Boot Lake. We aren’t into fishing but liked that hiking isn’t too far. The Quartz Hill Trail is a bit of a drive past Townsend.

This is a peaceful respite in the Wisconsin woods.

    Tilleda Falls Campground

    Charming Little Camp

The thing that impresses me most about this campground is that they manage to do a lot with a little. The Falls are a beautiful little site which the campsites themselves manage to wrap around to maximize the space and fit spaces for all to enjoy. Fortunately, the river itself adds more space for folks to enjoy the water on rocky outcroppings and trees lining much of the banks.

The small town in which the camp is placed gives a true Wisconsin-Midwestern veneer to your stay. Some basic amenities are close by, and the community itself feels safe and inviting. I would have enjoyed a longer stay but I hope to visit it again soon. 5 stars for making the most of what they have.

    Simple solace

We stopped here for a quick overnight pit stop on our way from Minneapolis to our final destination camp site in Rowleys bay , Door county, Wisconsin. We were in a bind & needed something last minute but we still had specific wants.....like privacy! Their online reservations were easy. Pics of the sites were clear. Electric hook up & a great rate!
This camp is well off the beaten path , narrow windy roads abound. But all paved & no traffic. In fact, we never saw a soul. The drive is lovely thru the Nicollet State forest. Although, you will lose service & it your relying on GPS directions, you’ll find yourself in a bind like us. But we got out our trusty map & winged it. Cell service kicked in just in time & we made it!

Check in was a breeze. The gal was lovely & helpful. You will need a Wisconsin park’s admission sticker. The drive is still a 2.2 mile trek beyond the check in building. Our site was perfect. It was lush, green, & private . Well sized, easy to find, part grass, part gravel. Picnic table & fire ring. If you need it , they have a few bathroom buildings peppered around the loop & a very well kept shower & bathroom building upon entering the campground. I’m telling you, this place is PRIVATE. It is out there.. but still very well maintained. We were impressed by that.

If anyone one else was camping , we didn’t know until we walked the dogs around the loop. Our site was surrounded by forest & the dogs were able to roam our site freely. There were mosquitoes, as it was slightly humid & rained a bit. But nothing mosquito spray couldn’t handle. FYI- if you have kids they will be bored. There is no playground that we saw. But if you just want some peace & quiet - this is the place for you! Most of the campers were older retirees. It looked like there were trails to explore but since it was a quick stay, we didn’t get a chance. We plan on coming back for sure & checking it out. For reference: We have a 19ft travel trailer & a ford truck. We stayed at site 19 , it is pull in & it was perfect, with plenty of room for everything. We took a walk to be nosy &also liked site 20, it was even bigger! Site 14 looked great for a pull thru site. There were also some much larger sites for bigger rigs. There also plenty of tent sites that looked great too. Dogs are welcome. As an added bonus- there were raspberry bushes everywhere! They were just coming in , but if you catch it right. You’ll be up to your eyeballs in fresh raspberries.. yum!

    Party Central

Love this camp ground, but they definitely pack it in. Always a good time and party when we're there....but that's what we're looking for. All their sites are nicely wooded, but can get to be close quarters. Good facilities, good bar, great food, newly remodeled pool facilities. Wifi is lacking, but who really needs that camping?

    Halloween starts early here!

This weekend there was a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of our favorites) and loads of cool decked out campsites. Only a few places with full hook up and ALL by the dump station. Nice amenities, lake, splash pads, mini golf, splash pad outdoor pool, golf car rentals, outdoor movies, a full size haunted house!

    Good for the whole family

Has a nice sand beach with clear water for swimming, as well as a pool area that are both great for the kids. There’s also a few animals that you can go over and feed if you like. It was mostly quiet when we went, which was a very good thing. As long as you find a spot that’s not too close to the office, you’re good. If you’re too close, the dance parties that they host can get a bit loud, but are still fun for the kids to drain some energy.

    Pine Grove Campground

Fun campground for kids, expensive campground for adults

Our family was very excited to check out Pine Grove Campground, within the first hour of being there though, my husband and I didn't care too much for it. It is extremely over crowded. Almost all the water toys/activities that were shown on their website and Facebook page weren't there anymore. To rent a paddle board it was $15 per hour. By the time you got them, got in the water, it cost us $45 for 3 kids for way less than an hour. $50 to rent a golf cart. Even the wagon ride thru the campground was an extra cost. They advertised free Wi-Fi thru the campground. I turned my Wi-Fi on, only to be notified that the first 30 min are free and you have to pay them for a daily code every day for any use after the 30 min. We picked the weekend of choice to stay there since they advertised fireworks. Due to rain they stated they were cancelled which is understandable. We were not pleased at 11pm at night when the rain stopped and they decided to do the fireworks. All of our camping neighbors were not pleased either. If you plan on camping here be prepared to bring a lot of extra spending money. Just for the kids to be able to use the equipment you have to purchase a wristband at $15 per kid.

    fun for groups

This was a fun place to go with a group of people. Even though there was a huge rainstorm before we got there and had standing water in our site, it drained quickly. They had a DJ there which was fun to listen to in the common area while with others.

The good: Lots for kids to do in their kid-friendly pool, arcade, park, and bounce house area that our group of kids loved. They offer golf carts to rent which is very nice (but a bit pricey)

The bad: I docked a star because It was loud which isn't the campgrounds fault until they don't do anything about it, which there wasn't. We had a great time with our group but were able to have fun while still being relatively quiet. There were 2 different groups around us that were loud into the early hours of the night.

Overall we had a great time with our group and as a whole really liked it. We would go back again. We could have just had bad luck on the weekend we went but would have liked to see some sort of authority there to keep a few groups contained a bit. Would go somewhere else if wanted a "Secluded" stay.

    Wonderful, riverside campground !

Excellent campground! Well maintained and easy to maneuver around. Quiet and enough sun and shade for everyone. Owners are helpful and very nice! Nice playground for the kids, swim beach for great summer fun, campground store/food/drinks if you’re hungry or desire a cold drink to beat the heat and such amazing riverside views that melt the weeks stress away! We will definitely be back to this jem of a campground! Come see for yourself, don’t take my word for it!

    Our favorite local spot!

My kids have been camping with my mom here for years- since it was Kastle. We started a couple years ago. This is such an amazing family campground! Kids of all ages everywhere. After dark the kids usually have a big game of something up at the playground and I have to tell them to be home at a decent time or they’d stay out all night! The office is hard to get a hold of- I’ve learned to call on the weekends during check in or check out times so someone is in the office. There are themes each week so make sure to check their site before so u know! It might be Pirate week or something else fun! There is a bar and a pool and a poolside bar. A small no-wake lake is on premise. and they have golf cart rentals! Halloween weekends are by far the most popular weekends for good reason!! I really could go on and on. Haha This has been my kids favorite spot for almost a decade! We stayed last year every other weekend from mid-may through September. This year we will be back for 3 weekends simply because we have other places booked with friends a lot.

The owner was very nice and helped us get around on the map. With over 500 sites and 350 of them being permanent.... the weekend warriors tend to get "warnings".

We almost lost our golf cart and people literally drive past and stare. This is a little unsettling since we do have littles and with the recent news this place had involving children.

There were bands playing Thursday thru Saturday at night but for $25 dollars per person and watching all the permanent sites people just park outside the gate watching forcing people who actually paid to park farther away.

The pool is nice, they do plan on remodeling at the end of this season.

Overall it was nice but again.... you have to watch your warnings.

    Huge campground

First off this campground isn't called Kastle campground anymore, it's now called Farmer Genes Campground. And its HUGE over 500 sites. We went here for 4th of july weekend. Check in was quick and smooth. It was overall an ok campground. I'm not sure I'd go back. Very busy with golf carts. They had a nice pool and splash pad for younger kids. They had plenty to for the kids, playground, mini golf, basketball etc. They have a beach as well. You can "rent" kayaks, canoes or other water toys. They told me it was $10 and when you bring back the oar and or life jacket you get the $10 back. Store with anything and everything you would need. Even sell ice cream! Nice for those hot days. They had fireworks and a live band Saturday night. Fireworks werent going very high and a few had the embers come into the crowd sending the spectators running. Seasonals weren't very friendly. We were walking down to the water to get a seat for the fireworks, we stopped on the side of the road to talk about potential areas to sit and the seasonal behind us said "sure you can sit there if my pay seasonal fee for the year" very rude! We had no intention of sitting in front of them. The sites were stacked on top of each other, nothing in between for any type of privacy. Upside was the amish came in selling their baked goods and eggs. The showers are pay showers- a quarter for 3 minutes. First time i seen that. In the picture i was standing in the next site to take the picture. Thabkfully noone was there or it would've been cramped for sure.

Nice spot next to a stream

1 of 2 spots at this location. This is the second campsite on the dirt road coming in. If you come in on the first site and try to take the path through to the 2nd, be sure to have a high clearance vehicle with 4x4. There are a lot of ruts and mud at the moment. There is a short walk to a stream, which is peaceful. Someone put a small bench there, which is nice to sit at and relax. As far as resources, there isn't much by way of dead wood. There's a picnic table and fire ring which seems "clean". Absolutely no trailers larger than a teardrop. Even that is questionable. I wouldn't recommend anything larger than a van or sprinter.

Great for brook trout-close to federal campgrounds

This area is close to Boulder Lake Campground. If you cannot find the campsite or wish to camp closer to a small river with trout, this is a great location. It has established toilets.

    Boot Lake

Even though I am from the town of Townsend, which is about 5 miles from boot lake, this has always been my favorite campground, with hiking trails that aren't usually that busy to a beach you can relax on, it is the perfect place to spend a weekend, or week for that matter. Bring your kayak/canoe and enjoy the lake after wake hours also!

    Get Away & Relax

Found this beautiful campground while exploring the lakes in the area. We had an awesome campsite with access to the lake right from our site. Spent several hours kayaking & fishing on Boot Lake, along with several other lakes in the area.

Be sure to get you firewood & ice in town, as there is none available in the campground.

    Good campground

All around good campground. Sites weren’t too close to each other and were at a normal level of seclusion. Beach and fishing area

    Boot Lake Campground

    Great getaway spot

A group of us stayed at Boot Lake campground in the end of July. Normally this campsite takes reservations but for 2020 it’s strictly first come, first serve. We lucked out and managed to snag one of the better sites (#14) on the lake. While there are roughly 8 actual lake sites, if you’re there to go canoeing or kayaking, 13-16 are probably the best options for that, though there were several motor boats tied up along the shore of some of the other sites. Be aware the lake is very popular for water activities so if you’re looking for a calm quiet location for fishing or canoeing, you’re mostly limited to mornings and evenings.

There is a trail that goes along the lakeshore and if you follow it going clockwise, you’ll find a rope swing for jumping in to the lake.

Fair warning, both campsites we were at had poison ivy around them so watch out. Also they have just finished clean up following the storm in 2019 so some of the campsites are a bit more open than I imagine was intended, particularly in sites away from the lake. Though there was a lot of standing water and a fairly large swamp across the road, mosquitoes were not bad at all.

Overall, it’s a great campground and we would return.
