    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Campgrounds near Oconto, Wisconsin generally do not offer dedicated horse corrals or specialized equestrian facilities based on available data. River Park in Stephenson, Michigan is the closest campground with potential for horse camping, located about 35 miles from Oconto along the Menominee River. The campground features four well-separated sites with fire rings and trash receptacles, but does not provide specific horse amenities such as corrals or dedicated equestrian camping areas. Campsites have ample space that could accommodate horse trailers with gravel surfaces extending to the tree line.

Trail access for horseback riding is limited in the immediate Oconto area. Riders typically need to trailer to nearby state forests or public lands for suitable riding trails. For horse campers seeking better trail access, Chute Pond Park in Mountain, Wisconsin offers horse camping facilities about 40 miles northwest of Oconto with stronger potential for nearby trail riding, though it also lacks horse-specific amenities like dedicated corrals or equestrian campsites. Campers bringing horses must be self-sufficient with portable corrals or highlines. The surrounding county roads and forest trails provide possible riding routes, but riders should contact local land management agencies for current regulations regarding horseback access on public lands.

Cedar River North State Forest Campground

      Highly recommended

This place is awesome. It's 8 miles down an old logging trail but it's worth the drive. There is no electricity but they have a fresh water spigot. There are 14 campsites, half of which have horse pens, most of the sites are river front on the Cedar River, and 2 sets a trails, one which is an equestrian trail that doubles as ski trails in winter. There is a kayak launch and the river is a great place for catching bass. Every site has at least one handicap accessible picnic table and a small fire pit. Most of the sites are big enough to fit a camper. There is a set of mudding trails across the river with easy access, the sounds are not too loud. The campground is usually empty or close to it. The mudders do come visit the grounds for the bathrooms, otherwise it's pretty quiet. There is a bunch of wildlife, you can hear birds and squirrels chattering, coyotes call to each other in the early in the morning across the river, and lots of little critters scurrying about. Dogs are welcome. There is a gas station/Mart on the highway before the turnoff that sells fire wood and other items you may need while camping

      River Park

      Peaceful and rustic camping

This was a great trip to escape into the wilderness. Vault toilets were clean, centrally located and close to the hand pump well. Plenty of space at each of the sites. Some of the sites were right on the river while the ones uphill had horse fences. The road in was a little muddy but not bad enough to get stuck. My only complaint was the amount of trash in the fire pits. They have plenty of trash cans all around. Hopefully future campers start using them!

      Point Beach State Forest

      Little Gem!

This campground is situated across from Lake Michigan, with access to trails, sand-ridged beaches and a lighthouse (the lighthouse cannot be toured, but can be admired from the outside).  There is a nice lodge and camp store right on the lake, complete with a quaint restaurant where we got breakfast on the weekend as well as ice cream.

We stayed on site 13.  Not super secluded from neighboring sites, but it had nice tree cover.  A three minute walk to the beach.  The shower house and flush toilets were a bit of a hike from our campsite, but pit toilets were nearby.

We camped in late-May and there were no mosquitos and we didn't see any ticks (not to say there weren't any).  The area has some interesting natural features, including some wetland-prone areas with frogs, salamanders, etc.

All-in-all everyone in our party agreed that we would stay here again.  Happy camping!

      Point Beach State Forest

      Great Views! So pet friendly!

Point Beach State Forest sits on the Eastern side of Wisconsin along the 5 miles of shores on lake Michigan.

This is a wonderful Park. It can be very busy especially during peak times, so be prepared for crowds! The park offers plenty to do from trails to swimming, and obviously camping.

The park offers two beautiful beaches. One of them being for pets, both of them right on Lake Michigan.

This park has excellent and typically clean shower and bathroom buildings. It offers 127 campsites with 70 of them offering electricity. All of these campgrounds are in walking distance from Lake Michigan but none offering a view of the lake. This park also offers indoor group and outdoor group camp sites! The park also offers two rustic sites. One being for the Ice Age National Scenic trail and one being a kayak campsite which is only accessible from Lake Michigan. Both of these sites are only about a half a mile south of the forest office! The forest office building is beautiful with plenty on display in the clean restrooms. Firewood is also available at the forest office!

There are plenty of amenities near the park as it sits right outside the city of Two Rivers and also not too far from the city of Manitowoc. Being close to the city, there's a grocery store not too far from the park as well as gas stations and shops near the downtown.

Let it be known you do not have to escape the park on weekends for a good meal if you're not in the mood for cooking, this park offers fish fry on Fridays and Saturdays and the food is delicious. It also offers concession stands with snacks and ice cream during the rest of the week.

Be aware of ticks in this park, especially deer ticks. I have personally had a very bad experience during the early fall. I won't go into detail as it was quite a disgusting experience! Despite that, this is a wonderful Park and think it should be on everyone's list for places to camp

      Bay Shore Park

Great on the go last minute sight

We visited Bay beach in Green Bay and then wanted to spend the night near Green Bay in our 35’ class A. Not making reservations in Wisconsin during the summer is risky but fell upon this beautiful 50% first come county campground that is well kept. Both 50 and 30 amp service with hiking, biking, gardens and more.

      Point Beach State Forest

      Great

Huge campground, and I guess we were lucky to snag a site mid week in August, as there were only two sites left when we arrived in the early afternoon.

You get a choice of electric or non electric. We paid $25 for a non-electric site (weekends are higher rate). You also have to pay the Wisconsin state park entry fee at $13/day for non residents, or $38 for an annual pass.

The dump station gets really backed up at the end of the weekend, so heads up.

Also, a portion of the beach is dog friendly, so if that’s important to you then try and get a site close to the dog friendly portion (south of the lighthouse), otherwise it’s a good mile walk from the other end of the campground to the dog area. Leashes required at all times, except for when the dog is actively frolicking in the water.

The concession stand here looks really nice, like a full service restaurant. Showers are nice and free. Water spigots throughout campground, or there’s a water fill at the dump station. There’s a little free library here too:)

Campground will be closed until May 24, 2024 for maintenance on the waterlines.

      River Park

      Perfectly Quiet Riverview Campground

My wife and I were blessed to spend a night at this idyllic site as my mother graciously watched our daughter for the night to let us enjoy camping together. We brought the dogs with; and we were able to kayak and fish along the river within view of our campsite. Some of the sites themselves are elegantly perched above the riverbank and give you a great view overlooking the mini rapids at the convergence of the river split. Each site is a good distance away from the nearest one so you do feel more remote as you camp. We went for walks on the handful of small trails, enjoyed a picnic and roasted food over our little fire. The site also offers toilet, water and trash services, adding a little extra convenience. I definitely hope to camp here again with my kids once they get older!

      Bay Shore Park

Relaxation not too far from the City

The tent sites are a great size and semi private (you can have a conversation and not be heard at other sites). The bathroom and showers are decent and cleaned daily around 6 am. There are reservable and walk-in sites. The sites also have extra parking across from them.

There is a lot to do for kids a great play area, swimming, fishing, boating etc. There are hiking trails but not a lot.

The couple I went with had issues with the site next to them ( loud inappropriate language and using drugs) the rangers responded quickly and efficiently!

I have been there summer and late spring.

      Chute Pond Park

Would go back again and again

The access to the ATV trails really makes this campground a convenience gem! The camp store is also supe convenient if you forget smores and Fire supplies. The sites are close to each other and ticks can get bad here but overall it’s such a great, cheap option! The trails that go down towards the falls are really nice and it’s a great campground to watch the stars!
