Wooded sites, lake views, and the occasional lightning storm rolling in over the water define the experience at Bay Shore Park, a county-managed campground on the Niagara escarpment outside Luxemburg, Wisconsin. The park sits directly on the bay, and campers in the right spots can watch weather systems build across the water. Sam F. captured it well: "Watching lightning storms approach from over the lake was exhilarating."
Sites here vary considerably depending on where you land. The hookup sites feature blacktop parking pads, grills, and water and electric connections, though at least one reviewer noted the hookups are positioned on opposite sides of the site, which can require repositioning a trailer to reach both. The primitive and rustic sites run wooded and private. Reviewers who've stayed in the primitive area after Labor Day found it uncrowded, with good tree cover and separation between sites. Site 21 draws mentions for its bay proximity, and the rustic sites around 212 come recommended for tent campers. Sandy-dirt ground is the norm, and it turns muddy after rain.
Facilities hold up well under scrutiny. Bathrooms are cleaned daily, and the shower house has hot water, though the bathrooms themselves are cold-water only. Laundry is available on-site. The park also has a playground, swimming access, bike trails, and fishing. Celeste D. noted that "even with the campground full it was nice and quiet," though flooding in some spots after rain is worth factoring into site selection.
Reservations are available, and the automated payment system has drawn complaints for counting Thursday as a weekend night, which affects pricing. The park runs from May 1 through October 15, with rates between $24 and $38 per night. RV campers up to at least 35 feet have stayed here successfully, and 50-amp service is available. Nearby alternatives include Bayshore Park Campgrounds just down the road, and campers exploring the region can browse campgrounds around Bayshore County Park for additional options. Book ahead for summer weekends; post-Labor Day visits tend to be noticeably quieter.
