There is a lot of hiking (the view from the bluffs are amazing) you can rent kayaks canoes etc. and they have a boat landing. No shore fishing or swimming which is disappointing.
The nonelectric sites were a bit small (compared to many state parks I have been too) -especially considering the gravel spot they leave for pop ups - not great to tent camp on and takes up most of the space that is safely far enough from the fire pit.
The bathrooms were decent but quite a hike (which stinks late at night) the showers were clean but I never used them.
However, the bugs and mosquitos were almost unbearable. We fogged the site daily, had thermacells, and coated ourselves in bug spray - still came home completely bit up and trying to play cards at night the constant hum of bugs was a bit much.
This is more of an RV park. It has lots of activities for kids etc but when we were there the place stunk. The pond for “fishing” had an odd algae/dead fish smell and the campsite smelled like sewer mixed with manure.
The sites are right on top of each other and you could hear a mouse fart in the other sites.
The tent sites are a great size and semi private (you can have a conversation and not be heard at other sites). The bathroom and showers are decent and cleaned daily around 6 am. There are reservable and walk-in sites. The sites also have extra parking across from them.
There is a lot to do for kids a great play area, swimming, fishing, boating etc. There are hiking trails but not a lot.
The couple I went with had issues with the site next to them ( loud inappropriate language and using drugs) the rangers responded quickly and efficiently!
I have been there summer and late spring.
I camped at this site a couple times! I would go back. There is hiking kayaking boating (but you must bring your own). Play grounds volleyball courts available great place for families. Can be a little bit buggy and the last site we were at had lots of poison ivy! There are lots of fun things to do in door County all of which are within half hour 45 minute drive!
This park is overly crowded with campsites. There’s not much privacy between the sites. It is very noisy loud and you hear all the conversations from other campsites. They also seem to attract young party crowd and it’s loud through most of the night. The ground was difficult to put tent stakes in as it was very hard. There is great hiking as the Ice Age Trail is part of this park. They do have events for kids on the weekends and some great playground so would be great for families!
We took an extended weekend to camp at Buckhorn. There is a bar that has live music close by and you can hear it at night. We were not on the sites closest to the bar so it wasn’t unbearable. We bug bombed the site when we first arrived and didn’t have many issues Friday Saturday. However, Sunday night when there were a lot less campers the biting flies became a problem. They were horrible!!
The bathrooms were rather clean easily accessible the showers were clean, private and free- however the water pressure was pretty bad - could only have 1/4 of your body in the water at a time.
There are many activities you can do : you can rent bikes kayaks canoes plus it is right on an inlet for the Wisconsin River and there are boat landings etc. There are some hiking trails but they are not overly scenic or require much effort.
Fantastic campground. Been there couple times. Bathrooms are great showers are OK. There is plenty of hiking swimming boating kayaking etc. The Ice Age Trail runs through the park and makes for great hiking. This is a campground I would go back to over and over again .
One time we locked her keys in the vehicle. The Rangers were very helpful.
The sites on the lake are huge! They are perfect for going with groups of people (Cook on one, set up Games on the other, and you can easily fit two cars out of sight a tent everything… ) however the sites do not have any privacy - the only wooded part is shoreline.
I have a very nice check in/camp store it’s brand new. The main shower house bathrooms are very clean very nice except you have to pay for the shower. Rest of the restaurants throughout this campground our pets toilets.

This is not the best campground I’ve been to but it’s definitely not the worst in fact I go every year with a A group with small kids.
